Figured we should split this off from the Game of Thrones thread.

I've still got about twenty minutes left and will post my thoughts when I'm finished.

Thought that was a strong first episode. Nice to have all the palace intrigue back. King's Landing is full of vipers, as per usual.

Matt Smith stole the show. He seems like he's having a great time.

The jousting was great and looked incredible. It's miles beyond what we saw in the first season of the original show.

The birth scene was brutal.

Looking forward to seeing more.

In terms off the main characters, not sure if there was a performance I didn't like.

With some more secondary and tertiary characters( some of the Council and characters I dont know whether they'll be important or not) seeming ok so far. I guess I know Criston Cole will be a big character and while I didn't dislike the acting, he didn't have that much to work with dialog wise yet. Though he did convey that absolute Dornish no fear, no backing down to anyone vibe so that was good.

But all the main characters I thought were just spot on.

Loved the Viserys/Daemon throne room scene. Loved all the facial tics and mannerisms for Otto and Corlys. That Rhaenya was top level. As was Dameon.

Actually glad that I haven't read Fire and Blood yet. I can sense some of the broad strokes and of course have seen various spoilers but have the capacity to be surprised episode to episode with where certain things go.

Might just re-watch it before I go to bed.

I enjoyed it. Matt Smith in particular was fantastic, in a group full of solid performances.

Will probably rewatch before next week’s episode, but color me intrigued.

Better than anything from the last three seasons of the main show, that's for sure.

Going to have to re-watch it so I can be sure I'm not glossing over anything. I have zero context of what happens in Fire & Blood outside of subtle things that may be referenced in the main show/books, so I'm excited to keep following it after that episode.

I enjoyed it as well. The story is mostly fresh to me, looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.

Very curious to see how Daemon will respond to Rhaenyra being selected as heir. I get the sense he likes her a lot, but he obviously wants the throne for himself too. I hope he supports her. If anything, he'll be motivated by his utter disdain for Otto lol

Fairly certain the war ends up being between Rhaenyra and Alicent, as the latter becomes convinced that Rhaenyra will kill her children to protect her own claim once Alicent inevitably marries Viserys.

That’s what I got from the trailers, at least. I read the story this is based off on and it was called The Princess and the Queen, but I don’t remember much of it and don’t remember where Daemon ends up.

Ok, sort of.

I’m guessing we’re only discussing the show in here and not source material it is based on? As someone who just recently read Fire and Blood, this is pretty fresh in my memory.

Re: Bolded. Red flags flying after that whole exchange between Otto and his young teenage daughter basically commanding her to "comfort" the King in his bedchamber.

Shrewd diplomatic move from Otto (Tywin vibes) if bolded happens.

I think I read Fire and Blood a long time ago when it first came out -- but I don't really remember much of it. I know the broad strokes, but kind of enjoying the newness of the show due to my poor memory lol

Just basing this off the pilot, but right now Rhaenyra does not at all come across as the type that would murder children for personal gain (or for any reason for that matter).

Yeah. Fire and Blood reads like a history book, so I honestly have already forgotten a lot of the smaller details. But I still recall exactly how the Dance of Dragons starts and generally what transpires over the course of the war.

That didn’t prevent me from enjoying GoT, though, so don’t think it’ll hinder any enjoyment with this. Pretty excited.
