House of the Dragon Spoiler Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok, sort of.

I’m guessing we’re only discussing the show in here and not source material it is based on? As someone who just recently read Fire and Blood, this is pretty fresh in my memory.

Let’s say book spoilers use spoiler tags and show spoilers are fine once an episode airs.

Just basing this off the pilot, but right now Rhaenyra does not at all come across as the type that would murder children for personal gain (or for any reason for that matter).

No doubt, but her best friend marrying her father and stealing the succession may change her attitude, and I imagine a lot of it is also bullshit fed to her by her father.

In case anyone thought that people weren't going to watch House of the Dragon because the ending of Game of Thrones was hot garbage, nope. They all watched. Some probably just to bitch about it, but that doesn't hurt HBO's bottom line.

I literally had to skip past that birth scene that was some brutal ass shit

Watching that episode on an airplane was… a mistake.

Awkward viewing aside; I couldn’t imagine a better first episode to cleanse the pallet of the shit sandwich that was GoT final season.

It felt like it stood on its own, the performances turned in were such that I believe they can carry a show, and there’s enough juice to the storyline that there’s certainly a season or two of good content.

Birth scene wasn't that graphic, but intense. Thought it was done tastefully without being gratuitous.

Great start for the show. I’m impressed.

As a new parent, that birth scene was tough, especially since our baby’s delivery was not without complications.

My wife still hasn’t watched, and I don’t know if she will. Honestly might just have to skip past it if she does.

That being said, I agree with @Chris 100% - not overly gratuitous, but still intense enough to be effective.

As someone who has absolutely no interest in the source material, and didn’t care about it for GoT, I thought it was solid.

Nods to Baratheon and Stark we’re fun for those of us who have absolutely no background for any source material.

Seconded, from trailers, whoever said war between the two girls. Felt it was very clearly hinted at. When the trailer came out, couldn’t tell who was bad or good. For me, that’s when GoT fell apart- when there was clarity on good and bad.

I couldn't stop thinking of that late 80's/early 90's band, The Nelsons.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go through this grueling process again.

This show is only planned for three or four seasons so it won’t be nearly as grueling.

They said that? Probably for the best.

Yeah, although I read that House of the Dragon may turn into an anthology after that and tell another Targaryen story. Just depends on how successful it is, I'd imagine.

Another solid episode last night. Good setup into what looks like is going to be a crazy episode next week, what with the Corlys/Daemon alliance and Rhaenyra's own feelings of betrayal.

Given that this is a show that is supposed to cover ~170 years of history prior to the main series, at least the teleporting and time jumps make more sense - ie, Corlys meeting with Daemon in the very next scene after Viserys announces his plans to wed Alicent Hightower. It looks like the next episode (or at least parts of it) might even take place a few years after this one, with the king having a new heir.

Solid Episode 2. Clearly setting up the plot for further in the season. One thing I found myself saying out loud last night was just how good everything looked. The lighting, the framing, the visual effects. The show is just so visually stunning. S8 was also visually stunning, but it did not have the writing/story to back it up. HOTD appears to have both for the time being. Hope they keep it up.

Well...wasn't that the case pretty much from the time Jaime tossed Bran out the window? Starks good, Lannisters mostly bad (except Tyrion but that also was made clear right off the bat), and that never really changed.
