House of the Dragon Spoiler Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Another solid episode last night. Good setup into what looks like is going to be a crazy episode next week, what with the Corlys/Daemon alliance and Rhaenyra's own feelings of betrayal.

Given that this is a show that is supposed to cover ~170 years of history prior to the main series, at least the teleporting and time jumps make more sense - ie, Corlys meeting with Daemon in the very next scene after Viserys announces his plans to wed Alicent Hightower. It looks like the next episode (or at least parts of it) might even take place a few years after this one, with the king having a new heir.

I'm with you overall on the teleporting, but with one issue. I'll need to rewatch to be sure, but didnt they say Daemon would be married in 3 days in the small council? I know Dragonstone is relatively "close" to Kings Landing, but 3 days to gather that group of men, prepare a ship, and sail all the way there before any wedding preparations were taking place seemed excessively teleporty to me.

I wouldn't have put it past Daemon to have been messing with his brother on the wedding announcement, especially since he lied about the pregnancy as well, but even still, that part bothered me.

Well...wasn't that the case pretty much from the time Jaime tossed Bran out the window? Starks good, Lannisters mostly bad (except Tyrion but that also was made clear right off the bat), and that never really changed.

For me personally, I never really equated the ancillary Starks to being the end all be all good guys until much later. I didn’t watch the show live until the final season, and had no background in source material. Always felt thst while, yes the Stark family was good, they were just a cog in a larger wheel. Two of their main members were killed within the first 50% of the show, no? It always felt like they served to push Jon’s story, not to push their own… originally.

Clearly, Lannisters bad. But Khalesi and Jon Snow- never felt the show was uniquely about their good/bad until very late. Probably how I should have worded it.

Dragonstone is located in Blackwater Bay, so it’s probably less than a day’s trip from King’s Landing. Also, they only brought twenty men and they were from the Hand’s household guard, so they were likely already there and just needed to put on armor. Similarly, the Royal Navy should have ships available at will.

I agree on the men and ships being ready to go quickly. After my post this morning I searched around and found this reddit post (below) that explains that it would have been at least a 3 day trip, which definitely seems to back that it was a bit of a time hop. Not nearly as bad some of the things we saw in the original series, but enough that it bothered me. All they had to do was say that Daemon's wedding was in 5 or 7 days and it would have been an easy cover.

Would they have even taken more than one ship? They weren’t launching an invasion. They were just going to retrieve an egg. And Blackwater Bay would likely be safe during the period this show takes place in.

I appreciate you trying to make me feel better about it, and admittedly I do. Perhaps it was a super fast ship and the wind was at their back. Really though, I'm just going to chalk it up to Daemon toying with his brother and no wedding actually even being planned.

I didn't think anyone could get more slither-y than Aiden Gillen's Littlefinger, but Rhys Ifans' Otto just might.

Yeah, I don't think he had any intention of marrying her. It was sheer provocation, just as stealing the egg was.

I also don't think he had any intention of killing Otto Hightower. After all, if he didn't intend to give up the egg, he probably wouldn't have brought it out onto the bridge with him when confronting him. I think he was intending to make Otto submit and lose face before giving him the egg, but then Rhaenyra showed up and fucked up his plan.

If they were not moving tactically then they would have moved a bit faster.

Top speed.

With a good wind, they could make 7 knots, or close to 200 miles a day.

They could make the journey in as little as 52-54 hours.

Given that this is a show that is supposed to cover ~170 years of history prior to the main series...

I just want to note that this particular story is only going to cover like twenty to thirty years. They may do another story after if the show continues to be a raging success, but the intent of House of the Dragon is to tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons over three to four seasons.

So far, there's only been one reference to milk of the poppy, so that alone should help move things along compared to GOT

Anyone else find the time jumps between episodes a bit...strange?

6 month jump between episodes 1 and 2. And now (at least) a 9 month jump between episodes 2 and 3, based on the trailer.

And apparently different actresses are going to be coming in soon for Rhaenyra and Alicent because of significant time jumps.

I'm generally not a fan of huge time jumps in such short periods...hopefully it doesn't ruin the show for me.

It was a little strange seeing this episode taking place six months later but I suppose it’s basically necessary to tell this particular story since the seeds of the Dance of the Dragons were planted decades before the conflict started. That’s also why the two young girls (and several of the other children characters) have two sets of actors portraying them. At some point the story is going to jump a decade into the future, or at least it will happen over the course of several smaller time jumps.

I guess at some point I just hope the crazy time jumps stop and we settle down into a normal timeline.
