The Cavs home page is saying that Larry left Milwaukee this morning and he flew to DC to have an exam on his middle finger...he is listed as doubtful for tonights game........this is not good especially with the way that he was playing the ;ast few games

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Yea, I saw that. Maybe Luke can get some PT now...not sure if Sasha is activated yet.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

id rather win than have the younger jiri welsch ever see the court again

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Ira Newble and Damon Jones will likely see the bulk minutes at shooting guard. The Cavs may also move Marshall if he plays, to small forward on occasions with James at the 2 spot.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Ugh..this is such a huge game..damnit.

Post-Practice Quotes-January 3, 2006

Mike Brown
What is Anderson Varejao doing in practice now?
"He’s doing just about everything. He’s got a time limit on what he does. We’re not going to let him go through the whole practice. Sometimes our practices are long and our guys have been going hard, which is great. Today I think he did just about everything."
Is Larry Hughes’ injury a re-aggravation of his old injury?
"Yeah, it has just been bothering him so we went and got it checked out today."

What’s wrong with Donyell Marshall?
"He’s got flu-like symptoms. He is supposed to meet us at the plane. They gave him some antibiotics."

What is it going to mean to have everybody healthy?
"When you have a whole team, you're able to work on a lot of things at practice. For instance, if Larry was here and Donyell was here today we could have gone with three teams of five with some of our drills, which makes it more interesting. Not only that, everybody is getting more reps so everybody is learning at the same time. When you have this guy out, or this guy missing, it’s kind of fragmented. So, now what you have to do is with some of the stuff you taught today, you have to go back and re-teach certain guys. You have to talk with certain guys about what we did today and it puts you a half-step behind. So, when we get everyone out on the floor, it’s going to feel good."

LeBron James
How important is the game against Milwaukee?
"It’s very important. We have to come with a defensive attitude to the game tomorrow. That’s going to take care of our offense. If we do that, we should have a good chance of winning."

What has it been about playing in Milwaukee?
"We just haven’t got over the hump yet. We’ve put ourselves in a position to win; we just haven’t got over the hump."

Do you think that the Bucks will play you differently since you went for 52 against them last time?
"I think so. I remember last year against Toronto, I had 56, they played me different. Next time we played them, I had a triple-double in the third quarter. So, pick your poison I guess."

Anderson Varejao
What is your role going to be on this team?
"I am going to try to do my best. Defense, I think that’s my game. I will play hard with energy and I think I can help the team."

Re: Hughes Doubtful

START "STRYKER" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(and come away with "VICTORY")

Just look at the physical toughness and nose for the ball he has (in between the trees)..... Bill Walton would say: "That's Championship style".... The will to win runs deep within this future star...

Re: Hughes Doubtful

this is not a big game for us, just like it is not a big game for milwauke if they lose with tj ford and joe smith out. losing with players missing does not mean anything unless it costs you a spot in the standings.

losing to utah without kobe last night was not a big deal for the lakers. they just move on.

losing hughes is only important if we lose him for a long stretch. and even then, it is really only important if we lose him for the playoffs.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

If the season were to end today we'd be playing each other in the playoffs. This game has tiebreaker implacations. Not to mention we haven't won there in 7 freaking games....it would be nice to show we can. Lastly, we only have a one game lead on the Bucks.
This is a big game for us!

Re: Hughes Doubtful

I kinda disagree with the fact that it's not a tremendously important game. EVERY game is important, whether there are injuries or not. Do we need to be reminded that we missed the playoffs the past two seasons by 1 game?

The bottom line is that we are the superior team talent-wise. It's not as close as many people think and we certainly aren't less talented than them (ok TJ?). We should still win this game without Hughes. The Cavs minus Hughes is a better (and DEEPER) team than the Bucks without Ford and Smith. Williams is their best guy off the bench (and the only thing they really have off the bench) and now he has to start. They will be very thin tonight and we should take advantage of their lack of depth late in the game.

Here's why this game is very important: Simply put, if we beat these guys tonight and Saturday, we move THREE GAMES AHEAD at least (figuring W's against Yao-less and clueless Houston and the sorry Knicks) going into the West Coast trip. We can start to separate ourselves when it comes to the 4 seed and hopefully we'll stay hot and give Detroit a run for their money.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

By the way, how bad does the NBA playoff seeding system suck?! Second best record in the Conference and if the playoffs started today, we have to play a 5 seed and if we win, we get Detroit in the SECOND round. Changes have to be made. Maybe it will take a few teams to get screwed by this to change the system. The same thing is happening out West. Utah is holding down the 3 spot with a .500 record.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

THEY JUST SAID HE NEEDS SURGERY.

On the WUAB telecast they said Danny Ferry said he will get surgery on his hand. Reghi predicted 6-8 weeks downtime.

Not good.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Ugh, they just said that Hughes is going to need surgery on his finger. That certainly does suck. Maybe we will realize how much he brought to the table with his absence.

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Apparently he had the surgery today!

Re: Hughes Doubtful

Larry's on the bench.

L. Sprewell anyone?
