Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really wish they traded Shumpert. Dude is beyond overrated.

I just don't understand why people feel the need to say stuff like this because of a bad tame or two.

The facts are he has been a pretty damn good player through nearly 60 games this season.

The problem with him being a "3 and D" player is that the "D" hasn't been good this year. When JR gets healthy and Deron Williams arrives, Shump's going to have to fight for his minutes.

Between Kyrie, Deron Williams, JR, and Kyle Korver, Shump has a pretty tough challenge ahead of him to stay on the court. Hell, even having Derrick Williams at the 3 could eat into Shump's playing time (depending on which lineup(s) Lue opts to go with) considering he has shown to be a very capable defender in his own right.

It hasn't been bad either.

It's been very average overall. (backed up statistically) I will say, he's had a pretty good last 6 weeks though.

Just can't help it; I'm not a fan of him. I'll admit that, and it's not based on these last two games.

I think he has a poor basketball IQ which doesn't fit with our championship roster, he is a bad team defender despite having a strong defensive reputation, and this shooting is not sustainable.

This past deadline was the ultimate time to sell high.

Everything will seem better if we can actually get healthy. A lot of guys are stepping above their roles, as it was clearly pointed out when LeBron was out, Kyrie was on the bench, and we had 2 D-Leaguers trying to run an offense in their place.

I think we should have tried our best to trade him. Maybe we tried hard so we can't really know.
Even trading him for PJ Tucker and the Suns 2017,2018 2nd round pick and would have been a good return for us imo.

What "scares" me is that Shumpert is going to take a huge minutes hit. He isn't going to play nearly as much so his value is going to drop.
Trading him for a draft pick and a player like Tucker would have been really nice just to clear him off the books and sign other priority players such as Deron, Korver, Tucker, etc.

I wonder what kind of deals we were offered or were looking for.

Shumpert is still just 26 years old. He's shooting .388 from three this year. We know the regular season is cruise control. We're not complaining about anyone else's defense during the regular season, so why are we complaining about Shump?

I've seen an actual change in his jumpshot that makes me feel he can consistently be a 36% and above 3-pt shooter if we keep getting him open looks. When he goes up smooth using his legs, he's been money this year. When he has the hitch at the top, the shot is all arms and it's flat. Honestly, when he's a little bit rushed, he's forced to stay quick and he's been great.

This is also the first time he's really been healthy all year for us, which also can contribute to improved performance.

If you wanted to deal him for improvements at positions of need (PG, C) or include him for a superstar upgrade, then I get it. But, if you're trying to trade him for another wing, I don't think you can find a young, .360 or above 3-pt shooter who can play the type of defense we've seen from him.

If, for some reason, he's an average to below-average defender in the playoffs, then that's cause for alarm. But personally, I think he'll bring the intensity up like everyone else. There aren't many guys who can run with Klay and Steph around the court and defend them the way Shump can.

We will need his defense at times going forward but Shump appears to be falling off pretty rapidly here.

He's definitely Shlumping but there's a lot of basketball left to be played and whether his role is big or situational, he is a part of the depth that will be our strength from here through the Finals

When/if we're healthy his minutes are going to be very minimal.

He is up and down and flat out inconsistent. I've just accepted that at this point. We can say we should have sold high on him, but I doubt there was any trades that we could have done that were worth doing. For that, I'm glad he is still on the team. We can revisit that in the offseason because I think his 10 mil could go to much better use, but for now, really not much point in talking about it. He has still mostly played well this year so I won't say he is in a full slump just yet. But it seems like he is starting to regress again.
