Short QB's have a harder time viewing the field, when offensive and defensive lineman tower over you and there are hands and stuff flying around it's tough.

I think Troy will have an easy transition to the NFL..he's got a laser. He can roll out of the pocket..he'll be fine.

I doubt it....people don't realize how important that height factor is. Troy isnt Vince Young or Vick when it comes to being out of the pocket and he doesnt have the smarts to run an NFL system.

But short people cant be NFL QBs because DL and OL go 6'6'' and taller...so imagine seeing over that, with hands extended.

He works beautifully out of the shotgun...I'm not sure why it's not used more often. If you have some speedy guys on offense it'd be great. I'd like to see him go to Carolina and season a few years till Delhomme is gone. Steve Smith Troy and DeAngelo...it'd be like OSU all over again.

Because they're short..

Troy Smith would have to become a roll-out type passer in the NFL to have any kind of consistant success. And despite looking like it should work well, the shotgun can't really be run that much in normal situations, cause it's a one dimensional attack essentially. Teams just bring in 5 db vs the Gun, and shade their SS towards the line for run support.

Smith could make it as a RB/WR type, especially if he is willing to convert. At some point he could also be a 2nd/3rd string QB. He probably can even have a long pro career cause teams will like the fact that he can be the primary #2 QB and they can only carry 2 other QB's on their roster during the season. With the true #2 guy being the 3rd emergency QB. Keeps the 45 man roster very flexible for game days. You can have a kickoff specialist or an extra special teams demon then.

Actually, there is one short QB that's impressed me thus far...I think he's 6-0, or 6-1..

This little bastard has a canon arm, and has that swagger...

Id rather have Frye than Michael Vick.

Speaking of over-rated quarterbacks...

Vick is another guy that is vastly over-rated. He is the Allen Iverson of football. He sells a lot of jerseys, makes some absolutely beautiful individual plays...

and simply can't consistently lead a team.

For every exciting run Vick makes, there's just as many boneheaded plays. He's nowhere near as bad as Aaron Brooks, but Vick is a running QB who will do some dumb things. Last week against the Saints was a case study in Michael Vick as an overrated QB.

Back to Charlie...

I don't need a QB with a laser arm and neither do the Browns. They just need a consistent QB who can get the ball there effectively and consistently. A lot of Charlie's throws are wounded ducks, but somehow they still get where they need to be. His completion percentage is actually pretty good, given his age. Whether Charlie succeeds or not will come down to his accuracy in the end. His arm is what it is. His toughness, desire to win and work ethic (from what they say) are his greatest assets. His arm strength and (so far) decision- making in crucial moments are his weak points. I believe his decision making will improve quite a bit over the season.

hate to tell u, but QBs will not be standing next to OL and DL players. they stand a few yards back. then once DL does get closer the QB can move. plus most football teams have playbooks. so u have to trust your WR to be where they are surpose to be.

of corse it is easier to be a tall QB, but im just saying, if u went it enough and try and work hard, u can do anything u went. troy smith has no problem seeing over the OL and DL.

You should stick to checkers....

Charlie Frye is basically Brett Favre minus the arm. He is gutsy gritty and tough. He talks shit to the D-Lineman after he gets back up from a sack.

He takes a lot of chances like Brett did early in his career that led him out of Atlanta.

I don't want to be the team looked at 10 years down the road as "The team that gave up on Charlie Frye" as he goes to the probowl a bagillion times with like the Redskins or something..

I'd rather be totally sure he's not the guy then to be the team that gives up a big time player. Remember Troy Aikmans first few years? He was terrible but he eventually put it all together..hopefully Frye has enough of those "tangibles" to make up for his wet noodle.

Kinda like Tayshaun Prince's desire to play good D on much larger people with the body of a 12 year old.
