Ok so they were giving us a player and a great pick on top of IT when we all thought that it was healthy IT.

They win this trade in a landslide if we don't get Tatum or Brown AND another pick. I say that because basically IT can't even be counted as a player right now. Deal as is is basically Kyrie for Crowder Zizic and that first because IT is on a one year deal. He'd surely opt for surgery with us because Cleveland Clinic is world renowned. So it's literally possible he could miss next season then walk after using us to have his surgery

Hell naw Ainge we aren't the Timberwolves. At this point I'd demand Tatum.

Screw this dude you tried to play us now we need Tatum and a pick or this deal doesn't happen and you have to look IT in the eye and explain why you tried to ship him off

Exactly.

As I've said before the Nets pick is whats supposed to either put us over the top or have a post LeBron future.

However, if we give up Kyrie for basically NOTHING. We have no shot to compete this year for a title and convince LeBron to stay. We need to have that option. No way LeBron signs off on giving Kyrie away for nothing. Either IT needs to be healthy and able to be here long term or we get someone else with star quality that can come here.

If the Thomas physical voids the deal then they (Boston) have to include 6M+ into the deal to get Kyrie. Boston is over the cap so they can't give up 6M less for Kyrie.

This basically comes down to Taytum (5.5M), or Brown (4.9M) + Rozier. Or Smart +. The thing is we can amend the deal if they are willing to take shump or TT and try to get back even more.

I think without swapping in Shump we would need to get something like Rozier + Brown, or Taytum, or Smart, or Morris just to make salaries match.

IT can fail the physical, and then the Cavs can instead decide to waive the physical and include him in the trade - along with another pick or something.

I think Smart+draft pick make sense and we throw in Shump. Smart provides what Lue wanted Shump to be this past season and short term depth at PG if IT take longer than predicted to start the season. The draft pick will have to be good enough to get a starting caliber PG, just in case IT is out the whole season.

The only thing to consider is Rozier can be added with no added salary on the Cavs end. Depending on what the Cavs are planning in other trades, this might be the better solution for us. It keeps the door open for Melo and if the plan is to move the Brooklyn pick at some point we won't have to move a valuable player to match salaries.

I can't imagine the Celtics will just throw in another key player or 1st round pick to sweeten this deal. The impression is already that the Cavs got more value in the current deal.

That was with a healthy IT..
We are losing a PG in Kyrie, getting an all-star PG in return is a major factor in the deal.
All indications have been that IT was getting healthier and would be ready by the start of the season..

July 3rd - Stevens: "IT will be ready to go to start next year."
Aug. 7th - Thomas: "The hip is great, the goal is to win a championship"

Aug. 26th - "Thomas still hasn't started running, league sources said."

We were sold a false bill of goods. He's had 3 months of recovery and still cant run.
This could be a half year rental of IT. I dont want Marcus Smart. I want Jaylen Brown.

One of my favorite things about sports is reading perspectives from both sides.

Lots of Cavs fan responses: "Ainge is a scumbag. They have to give us extra assets on top of this or we're going to back out of the trade. We were told IT had a clean bill of health, he's trying to pull a fast one on us."

Lots of Celtics fan responses: "Gilbert/Altman are scumbags. These sleezeballs are trying to parlay this into more. The only reason we gave up the BKN pick in the first place is because IT had possibly hip concerns. They are trying to pull a fast one on us."

The tribal mentality combined with the sanctimonious depiction of "we are the honorable good guys, they are the deceitful bad guys" is so common in sports that it's absolutely hilarious to see, especially when fans of both teams put the opposing spin on practically every story.

Thats not just sports but life in general. Look at religion and politics, same dynamic.
Good vs evil its the duality of the universe.

I dont agree with that opposing assessment though. Kyrie was the best player in the trade. The team that loses the best player typically loses the deal. Thats why the BKN pick was included. IT and Crowder make up for the court production we lose in Kyrie. The BKN pick and Zizic were the sweetener to entice us to enter the trade at all. Remember we are the ones losing the best player here. In totality the value is balanced.

If IT is damaged goods, his on court value would decrease significantly. That lost value must be reimbursed to rebalance the trade. The least I would settle for is another first round pick.

Screw Boston, go back to Milwaukee have them throw in Maker with Middleton, Brogdon and the first and take that deal.

the definition of a fanatic fits perfectly into tribalism.

Fanatic- a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, especially for an extreme religious or political cause.

Same in any competitive industry regardless of the discipline at least in this country.

My question here is procedural. How did both team social media accounts welcome the trade? Why did Ainge talk about it and specifically try to justify why they made the trade by bringing up their "concerns" over his health BEFORE the physicals took place.

McMenamin is slowly turning into a TMZ reporter.

Yeah I think there are options out there, it will take assets from the Celtics to get it done. I think the clippers are another option with us getting Beverley. The risk might be worth it for the clippers because they need a playmaker to pair with Blake.

What deal works with the Clips? Pat Bev + DeAndre + ?
