Jared Cunningham

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like a lot of his game, but the next time he goes left will be his first, teams will catch up to this if they ever bother to scout him.

Really? I disagree.... He went left about 6 or 7 times in the Sixers highlights that someone posted above. He didn't finish with the left in all of them but in probably about 5 of them. This isn't a limitation I've noticed in him.

"BankShot, I watched Dajuan Wagner. I knew Dajuan Wagner. Dajuan Wagner was a friend of mine. Jared Cunningham, is no Dajuan Wagner."

When Shump comes back, I'd blitz teams at times with a Delly/Cunningham backcourt and frustrate some teams all day long.

Really like him a lot for this team. An eventual JR replacement and quality end of the bench player, IMO

I see what you're saying, but his right hand drive seems like a nba level talent, he looks much slower and less powerful going left, it works against preseason level defense but not in primetime

That may be... and I guess we'll see. I'm just a little sensitive to people getting called out for not having a left hand for three reasons:

A) Dajuan Wagner was my biggest draft bust of all-time. He had a nice stretch of scoring and then the league figured out he didn't have a left hand at all and it all came crashing down.

B) I've listened to Austin Carr for years always talk about forcing players left even when this isn't a valid weakness for that player. Hell, I've heard Austin Carr critique players for not forcing left-handed players left. I love Austin but he wasn't a defensive wizard himself and this seems to be the only defensive adjustment he regularly suggests (often incorrectly).

C) I've heard announcers and critics of LeBron James say that teams need to force him left despite the fact the guy has been finishing with his left hand more than his right since I first saw him play live in 10th grade. There has never been a day that LeBron has been in the NBA that he hasn't been as good or better going left than right. Yet, many assume because he's a right handed player that this is somehow something teams should do with him. As many of you know, LeBron is essentially ambidextrous and writes and eats with his left hand.

Teams are gonna say "we don't know how to slow down the Cavs main rotation, so fuck it, let's game plan for their 12th man." :chuckle:

I'm replying to say I have no reply, I guess I've struck a nerve:)...I'm liking JC and it's a pretty good story that he is currently part of the rotation for the best team in the league

i might have to eat my words about him...i really wasnt impressed by pre season but so far he's looked good filling spots

100% in the same boat. I think it is easy to get to the rack in preseason because no one is playing defense. But he has finally looked worthy of his 1st round pick and I think he might have to stick even after the guarantee date.

Haha yeah, nothing personal against you.... just one of the things I'm sensitive to after hearing AC go apoplectic about allowing Tayshaun Prince to drive right (or you pick a left-handed player) multiple times over the years. I'm like preprogrammed to come to defense of that charge.

His jumper (particularly spot up 3's) looks better than I thought it would and I love his defense. I think he could fill a nice niche as a defensive-oriented guard that would be ideal for matching up with quicker PGs when everyone's healthy and provides nice depth at 1/2 in case of injury.

I see he and Joe Harris competing for best towel waver honors most games once Kyrie and Shump are back though. No way you can give him minutes with Kyrie/Shump/Mo/Smith/Delly unless it's garbage time. Maybe he can prevent teams we blow out from killing the end of our bench and making the other team's loss look more respectable. We saw that way too much last year.

This is where Cunningham can have a role even when every one's healthy. Against quick PG's, Blatt was forced last year to move Shumpert onto them often but when teams had a good offensive SG that put is in a hole. You could move Lebron down but you don't want him wasting energy nowadays.

When/If we get healthy we should be able to put a defensive guy in the lineup against any position in the lineup from 1 to 5. Even better all of these guys have at least adequate offensive games so teams still have to defend them going the other way

Another positive about Cunningham, assuming we retain him, is that he's another asset if there's a can't miss-deal to be made before the trade deadline. I think we can all get off the Wilson Chandler wagon, but do you pass him up if the Nuggets accept TPE + Cunningham and maybe a pick for him?

The preferred route would be to groom him a la a Danny Green "diamond in the rough", but he gives us flexibility in other areas.

cunny isnt really an asset even if we keep him. he's a free agent at the end of the season, so if a team wants him, they can just sign him. he'd only be an asset if we had him for years on a low contract or something.

Hopefully we can keep him and JR. He could keep our wings fresh during the regular season so that we can turn it on strongly during the playoffs. We need to hit with guys like this in order to be successful.

LeBron
Kyrie
Kevin
Timofey
TT
Shumpert
JR
Delly
Andy
Mogotti

Keep these guys for as long as you can.

I can see him lasting the season due to his hard work and play on the court. He is young and cheap and seems to really by into team and you need guys like that at the end of the bench.
