Jared Cunningham

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I hope we keep Cunningham at this point because I could see us losing JR or Delly this offseason, most likely JR.

I hope I am wrong, but both Delly and Moz are getting raises, but keeping JR if we can return Delly on a long term deal, and Cunningham and RJ on league min deals might be where the bank breaks,

Just a guess, but something will most likely give, and thus Cunningham becomes more important if he is a cheap wing player we can retain.

cunny isnt really an asset even if we keep him. he's a free agent at the end of the season, so if a team wants him, they can just sign him. he'd only be an asset if we had him for years on a low contract or something.

Calling him cunny sounds dirty.

His jumper (particularly spot up 3's) looks better than I thought it would and I love his defense. I think he could fill a nice niche as a defensive-oriented guard that would be ideal for matching up with quicker PGs when everyone's healthy and provides nice depth at 1/2 in case of injury.

I see he and Joe Harris competing for best towel waver honors most games once Kyrie and Shump are back though. No way you can give him minutes with Kyrie/Shump/Mo/Smith/Delly unless it's garbage time. Maybe he can prevent teams we blow out from killing the end of our bench and making the other team's loss look more respectable. We saw that way too much last year.

No, he should be a little more than a towel waver. We are too short on good perimeter defenders and athletic guys who can handle quick PG not to use one. Definitely times when we need that, and he's a guy who will improve for the playoffs with even limited PT, as long as it's consistent. Give him some minutes on Schroeder when we play Atlanta, etc.

In a small lineup Shump and JR can both be at SF in a second unit, opening space for JC at times.

iss-deal to be made before the trade deadline. I think we can all get off the Wilson Chandler wagon, but do you pass him up if the Nuggets accept TPE + Cunningham and maybe a pick for him?

There's only so many minutes and playing 5 guards is a stretch, playing more than 5 is nearly impossible. I mentioned he would see time for certain matchups with quick PGs but there's maybe 5 guys in the league that fit that description. There's only 96 minutes to go around at the guard positions.

Kyrie - 30 (like it or not, this is pretty much the bare minimum he'll play... he played 36 mins last year and most starting PGs play 32-36 mins)
Shumpert - 24 (He just got 40 million to play, not to ride the pine... this is the same as his minute avg last year)
JR - 20 (This is a reduction from nearly 32 minutes last year)
Mo - 15 (Has played 25 minutes or more his whole career except his rookie year)
Delly - 7 (He really should be getting more minutes than this)

It might be possible to get JR or Shump a few more minutes playing as a 3 but I think RJ will see the lion's share of minutes behind LeBron. LeBron's playing 33.5 mpg right now and that's a career low. I doubt it gets much lower than that with 32 likely being a bare, bare minimum. That leaves 14-16 minutes behind him to divvy up between RJ, Shump and JR.

Even without factoring in Cunningham, it's hard to get our 5 guards minutes. You're not going to cut into those guys minutes or RJ's minutes to get him more run.

If and when we have our full roster, Cunningham will be a situational defender, towel waver and leader of the garbage time crew. Hopefully he can keep sharp in case we need him.

When healthy, Cunningham might not even dress much less play, but we have now had our 3rd injury to a guard, and since cunningham can defend both positions, he has proven to be worth keeping around.

Breaking down mpg across all the guards doesn't really have any use, it's just going to come down to game situations

Cavs are blowing the other team out, then Cunningham gets 20 minutes

Tight game, Cunningham gets 5 minutes if any

Averages out to 10 mpg or something

Both Shump and JR can play at the 3. And I think Lebron should be averaging 30 MPG or under. Again, look at the Spurs (I say this like once a week around here). EVERY SINGLE PLAYER AVERAGES 30 MPG OR UNDER. That is the right way to do regular season minutes. Also, Lebron will effectively be playing some of his minutes at the 4.

We are position-flexible enough that you have to look at the whole team, not just divvy up 96 minutes between 2 positions. With everyone healthy Cunningham should be our 12th man, unless you think JJ is. We can go 12 deep at 10+ MPG during the regular season. Again, the Spurs do this every single year.

Totally agree with Shump playing more SF and JR some too.

If we win a 'ship everyone will be brought back. Dan will spare no expense.

If we want to share all the minutes and we have those 12 players, we can do it this way:
Mozgov- 22, TT- 23
Love- 28, AV- 13
LBJ- 32, RJ- 12
Shumpert- 25, JR- 20
Kyrie- 30, Mo- 13, Delly- 17, Cunningham- 5

Total=240, which is 48*5.
* AV will play some minutes as Center,
* LBJ will play some minutes as PF
* Shump will play some minutes as SF
* Delly will play some minutes with another one of the PG

In addition, there would be injuries/sickness/days off, so out of 12 players on average there will be one out, meaning 20 (240/12) more minutes for the other 11 players.
It's almost 2 minutes more for everyone, so now it looks like everyone is happy :)

I can't wait to see him jam the ball in the half court. You know it will be vicious, demoralizing the opponent. Like death and taxes, it will come...
