Jim O'Neil is Frisco's Problem at DC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

what kind of back is Ben Tate? I have never actually heard of him. I'm guessing he was Foster's back up. Is he someone that most on here feel we should pursue?

In regards to the OC, I'm not sure anyone could make this offense click unless we have a QB who can run the show.

I'm not sure about Tate too much, but he can catch out the backfield and is compact at 5' 11" and 217. He was to be the starter a few years back, until he got injured. Foster ended up starting and, well, we know how that went.

Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

Wasn't replying re: Shanahan, don't know anything about him.

The guy said 28 seemingly arbitrarily.

Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

I wouldn't mind Kyle Shanahan getting the job. He actually looked good in Houston, as b00bie said. I thought coaching under his dad hindered him in Washington. Mike clearly wasn't a big fan of Bob.

Plus he's young enough and has enough moxie to relate to Johnny Manziel, should the Browns go down that road.

Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

The hilarious thing is that Shanahan would be one of the few coordinators who I think would handle Manziel the best, especially seeing his work with RGIII.

Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

I see very little difference between Manziel's tools and those possessed by Colt McCoy and Charlie Frye in college. As much as Weeden's weaknesses drove me nuts before the draft, Manziel's are just as crippling.

Re: Browns New Offensive Coordinator

For the record, I do not want the Browns to take the gamble on the kid. I have, since the start, liked Bridgewater the best of the options.

Doug Marrone can kiss my ass if he doesn't let O'Neil leave.

Re: Browns New Coordinators

Both of those guys are fantastic coaches. Either one would make great coordinators.

They certainly same to fall into the same general "type" of scrappy QB's. Maybe Manziel is still that type, but just a lot better at it. I dunno, really. Didn't see him play enough to have a strong opinion one way or the other. I only saw Bortles in the one bowl game, and I certainly saw a guy who looked the part of a great QB. Good size, good mobility, pocket presence, etc.. It all looked perfect until he threw the ball and then he looked pretty ordinary to me.

I really have no idea who they should pick. I'm hoping, though, that we pick up a really smart coordinator who knows this stuff better than us, and can steer Banner and Lombardi in the right direction. Given their lack of success in the team last year, I think it would take balls the size of basketballs for Banner/Lombardi to disregard a new coordinator who says "I think I can make that guy a winner, but that guy is trouble."

Re: Browns New Coordinators

I guess Martindale was a DC before, a bit less enthused.

"Martindale has 27 years of coaching experience on his resume, including nine NFL seasons. He was the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator in 2010, when they ranked last in the NFL in defense (390.8 yards allowed per game). He has been the Ravens’ inside linebackers coach since 2012"

With Pettine here, I'm less worried about who our DC is than who our OC is...
