Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm glad he didn't get traded at the deadline.

I'm not big on "model teams" (i.e. copying everything that a championship-winner did) because I think every situation is different. However, looking at the Spurs, one thing that I think that they do that is transferable is that they let end of the bench guys who have some discernible skill develop quietly and find a role over time. I think for role players, familiarity with the system and coaches helps them get the most out of their talent. So in the future, rather than signing James Jones-type of guys, perhaps we can "promote from within" with 2nd round picks like Harris. I think this strategy works much better than signing aging vets in terms of complementing our stars.

True.

But the reason James Jones and Mike Miller were brought was also to add experience and help a very inexperienced roster, most of whom have never played in play-offs. You always need vets. And, since its the first season for Blatt and also will be the first post-season in NBA for many of the players, it was essential to have vets.

However, I completely agree about Joe Harris. He won't be an all-star or anything but no reason why he can't develop into a good 3 & D guy. Considering how young he is, he has plenty of time on his side to develop as he won't be required to contribute immediately.

Yeah I can see the wisdom in Jones and Miller THIS year. But going forward, Joe Harris would have been exposed to the playoff run (it doesn't matter that he isn't going to play - neither did Jones). So as we become consistent contenders, our own 2nd rounders/late 1st rounders or young guys that we pick up along the way will be able to fulfill both roles and would have familiarity with the locker room and environment.

This year is an anomaly with us going from a lottery team directly to the top of the heap.

honestly, i hate that he isn't playing. Too bad we're so stacked because Joe is so good. Handles the ball well, great 3 point shooter and very skilled putting the ball on the floor.

hopefully a year observing on the bench is good for him and he can have the same development as Lance Stephenson had for Indy.

I see more in him than a spread the floor for 3's kinda guy.

I have a buddy who works with the Charge and he was saying Harris looked amazing there. Said he thinks the kid will be ready to contribute next year.

He's playing on ESPNU right now in the D-League playoffs if you are bored waiting for the Cavs and Tribe games. 3/5 from the floor, 2/4 from 3 for 8 points a few minutes into the 2nd right now.

I would love to see Harris get more playing time now that we clinched. He would benefit from the experience and I think could really contribute.

What did he finish with?

I thought I was the only one watching him on ESPNU

It's pretty cool watching D-League teams play and noting the system from the incumbent NBA team in play along with seeing what each organization wants in young prospects (Miami's athletes vs Cavs' skilled players)

Harris looked great. Actually got a few offensive boards in there too and you can just tell by his jumper that he thinks he's the best player on the floor.

Kemp had a pretty good showing too.

Scotty Hopson is a nice player. We traded him away but I think with the right guidance could become a decent NBA player.
He scored 52 points in the D-League this season.
