Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

Not worried about this. We needed wing depth and shooting. This gives lots of versatility to the lineup.

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

Nah

I think Harris will get playing time while Sergay's role of warming the bench is safe.

I think Harris gets substantial playing time after Dion is traded to Minnesota.

So, we have Joey Hoops, and Johnny Football in town. Sweet.

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

Not fat, he's built--he gets on the offensive glass a little. He also defends well. Diebler never did that. Completely different players aside from being a white guy.

Agreed.. Diebler is a terrible comparison.. Harris is built and a physical player.. he moves great without the ball and can shoot and D up.. Diebler couldn't guard anyone and didn't have an NBA ready body.. if people like Delly they will like Harris just as much

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

I just hate picking guys who have like zero upside. He will hit 3s, but thats about it. He's a fat Jon Diebler. Normally 2nd rounders are whatever, but there were guys out there with a lot of upside.

You act as if it's so easy to find guys who can hit 3s consistently, where we need more impact players... we aren't a full team that can pick prospects. Adding more guys who don't fit isn't gonna help.

yea.. fucking terrible comparison.. Harris is built and a physical player.. he moves great without the ball and can shoot and D up.. Diebler couldn't guard anyone and didn't have an NBA ready body.. if people like Delly they will like Harris just as much

Exactly.

If Steve Novak can find a role in the NBA then this guy definitely can. Silky smooth setup, catch and follow through on his catch and shoot mechanics. Picks up garbage point rebounds. You won't be getting him mixed up with Melo but he can drive and he does have strength to finish through some contact. Has a good jab step and a good, efficient one dribble to get to his spot. Won't try to do too much. Seems like a smart player. Hopefully he can follow a Danny Green/J.J. Reddick type trajectory.

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

Guys that "make it" out of the second round are rarely touted for their "huge upside". If they had that much upside they'd be 1st rounders. You can try taking a "project", but that rarely works out. Why? Because second rounders rarely work out. A player like this, if his shooting range can be extended to NBA level without a dropoff in percentage, can play in the rotation of a playoff team. And if you find that in the second round, you've done good work.

Karasev is kind of a long shot to be anything. He's got a shot, and I think his chances of being anything in this league have increased dramatically with the Blatt hire. He's supposed to be able to shoot and passes the ball well. So, apparently does Joe Harris. Is anyone killing the Spurs for taking Kyle Anderson because he's a good passer and shooter and they already have guys that do that?

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

Danny Green wouldn't be the player he is today without Pop. Totally different scenario.

I agree but you're the one who said we had our Danny Green...

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

I watched a good deal of Virginia ball because their coach is the son of former Wisconsin coaching great Dick Bennett. They play complete team ball on both sides of the floor. They shut teams down on the defensive side and passed the ball for 30+ seconds on the offensive side. I see this as a Blatt player who could challenge the SGs on the roster and get some playing time because he can defend. Lots of JJ comparisons, but I think more like a poor mans Steve Kerr who can play defense. When Harris got hot, you just keep passing him the ball and watch him crush it from deep. He was the offense for some games in Virginia. Those Cavs shut teams down and made heartbreaking 3s after passing the ball around to kill the clock. Painfully dull team to watch, but there was a reason they won the ACC.

You mentioned how he would be our Danny Green, and I made a joke about him being on our roster at one point in time. I then pointed out how Joe Harris is nothing like Danny Green.

By the way, he's got a little of Wally Szczerbiak's hair, if that's worth anything.

Re: #33: Joe Harris - G/F - University of Virginia

I saw a mock draft where he went 58th. Doesn't give me the most confidence, but that would be to Spurs. So if he is a good fit for Spurs, I take him here.
