2) It wouldn't help. These are bonuses, not guaranteed salary.
Although, worst-case scenario, I think 8.35M of his bonuses are from a 2024 option. If we outright got rid of him before next year, I think the cap hit would be closer to 20M? Although it's fuzzy trying to figure out how the contract is exactly spelled out.
If he's done and the cap hit is only around 20M, then you probably try and renegotiate with him. Even if he's unable to play, drop his base salary down close to zero, let him get the best treatment around, and then you can spread that cap hit over 2024 with two void years on the back end, bringing the 2024 total down to around 7M.
