Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
odd thing is Jigo was wearing that exact headdress and big loop earrings just the other day

johnnys back is fine. he is out golfing.

According to some, he is given some leave but is still an inpaitent at his rehab facility, part of the process I guess.

Was listening to Jerry Ferrara's podcast with Jay Glazer and Jay said the Browns had Manziel #13 on their bigboard FWIW.

Joe Thomas: Johnny Manziel lost trust of locker room last year
Posted by Darin Gantt on April 6, 2015, 7:09 AM EDT

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel might be nearing the end of his rehab, but he still has a way to go before he can legitimately walk back onto the field for his team.

Last year’s first-round pick still has a long climb backto football relevance, after making such a mess of his hand-delivered starting assignment last year. And it’s the way he handled that assignment that makes his teammates wonder.

“I think he’s going to have to prove to the team that football is important and being the man, being the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, is important, it is his goal, his single goal in his life,” left tackle Thomas told Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com. “You know, I think he lost probably a lot of trust among the guys on the team last year by the way he handled himself once he became the starter. And I think he had a lot of time to reflect, I’m guessing, after the season was over by the comments he made in the media and by his actions, checking himself into rehab, . . . I think those were really positive steps.

“I’m hoping when we comes back in April we see a new Johnny and everybody’s blown away with his commitment. And I think he’s got the talent, so it’s just a matter of if he commits himself to it, we can have a really good quarterback on our hands.”

Of course, the Browns have covered themselves for the possibility that he won’t by signing Josh McCown, and the fact they’ve been linked with Sam Bradford andMarcus Mariota makes it clear they’re not finished at the position.

“Obviously there’s some uncertainty with Johnny right now and that’s why we brought in Josh,” Thomas said. “He’s a guy that if he’s asked to carry the flag this year, he’s going to do a great job. There’s a chance we draft somebody or there’s a chance Johnny comes back and he’s a new person and he’s rededicated to football, and he turns into the great quarterback that we expected when we drafted him in the first round.”

And doing that might prove to be a bigger hurdle than anything he’s doing off the field.

Well, at least Thomas is openly telling Manziel what he has to do to regain the trust of his teammates. Unlikely he will but who the hell knows, at this point I just want resolution to the whole ordeal.

Thought he earned their respect five days into training camp when he beat out Brian Hoyer.

Damn, so close.

I look at Joe Thomas and I wish badly that he was on another team.

Not because I don't like him. I like him a lot and think he's likely one of the higher character guys in the league.

It's just a shame he's wasting a Hall of Fame career on a franchise that embarrasses him every chance it gets.

I hope he gets a shot at a Super Bowl somewhere else before his career is over.

False start handsy patsy talking smack to his teammate when he and his fellow linemen gave Johnny about .5 seconds to deliver one of Johnny's patented back foot balls that sail over the receivers head? A mod needs to create a locked, offseason timeline thread. It's hard to keep up with this team.

1. I think the most stunning piece of news from the last few days, other than Sarah Thomas’s hiring, was Chris Mortensen’s report that the Browns had basically moved on from Johnny Manziel. The way he described it on ESPN was that, when the offensive staff was putting together the offseason program, “Manziel’s name barely even came up in conversation.” I can tell you this: Mortensen is 100 percent accurate here. In fact, when the quarterbacks have been discussed this offseason in-house, Josh McCown is the dominant talking point, and then Thad Lewis, signed last month as a free agent. Then comes Manziel and Connor Shaw. The point is that Manziel has given the Browns no reason to think he’s the long-term answer at quarterback.

2. I think the moral of this story is this: Manziel has done too much damage to his reputation with owner Jimmy Haslam, GM Ray Farmer and coach Mike Pettine to be taken seriously in Cleveland when he returns to the team, which is likely to be in the next week or so. He’ll have to be a combo platter of an Eagle Scout and a worker bee to have a chance to get the trust of the coaches back.

3. I think I am dubious that Manziel going to rehab was his idea.

He deserves way better than what the Browns have given him.
