Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't remember where I heard it, maybe it was Schefter? Someone on ESPN.

But anyways I guess Gilbert was much worse than Johnny as far as maturity issues off the field, missing team commitments, etc.

Manziel just partied too much. Gilbert was a train-wreck.

I think Johnny actually has a desire to win, have success.

I just don't think Gilbert gives a shit.

The way I took that statement was that they were more disappointed in Gilbert, signaling that they expected some level of shenanigans from Johnny but wanted more out of Gilbert.

"Everything I've ever seen him do is all out," Matthews said. "He worked hard at everything he did. When it was time to practice, he would be out there competing just as hard as he would in a game. that's all I ever saw from him, nothing but good things."

Long track record? This is Manziels 4th year playing football after his redshirt season

In the time he went from 3rd string qb to starting qb. won the heisman. carried a defensively weak team his 2nd and then getting drafted.

He obviously takes football seriously and as he told Gruden he got asked to do things and didnt know how to say.

sure Manziel got caught up in the celebrity game and made a quite a bit of mistakes.
He then set about a course of action to address those mistakes. Action not just words.

I also think the criticism of his not being prepared is over blown . He went in and did his job as the back in the buffalo game and worked extra to prepare for his first start.

Kingsbury described Manziel, who redshirted last season, as “making some plays in the spring, but he was pretty reckless with the ball.” That's changed this camp, both Kingsbury and Sumlin said.

“The guy won in high school, he's extremely athletic, he's soaking things up and working very hard off the field,” Sumlin said Thursday after practice of why he ultimately pegged Manziel over sophomores Jameill Showers and Matt Joeckel.

Specifically, Sumlin said Manziel (6-foot-1, 200) has improved his poise in the pocket during camp, vital to Sumlin's charged offense.“He knows he can run,” Sumlin said. “But he's done a better job this (camp) by staying in the pocket a little bit longer, instead of just escaping early and running like a crazy man all over the field.”

This was after Johnny had been busted in June for drinking

from last season

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly impressed by Johnny Manziel’s work ethic. No, seriously.

Despite his offseason partying, the Browns’ first round pick (No. 22 overall) has brought a “first-in, last-out mentality” to training camp, according to NFL Network’s Charley Casserly.

» Despite all the off-field white noise, Manziel was described to Casserly by multiple team sources as bringing a "first-in, last-out mentality" and showing up to camp with a better knowledge of the offense. Verbiage is the biggest challenge for Manziel, but Casserly was told the rookie is "doing fine" with that aspect of the playbook.

Manziel isnt suddenly showing work ethic he has had it all along.Manziel went off the rails last season but he had some help he got beat by distractions and realized he had a problem without his college buddies lookout for him.
This Johnny lied and betrayed me stuff I dont get at all
What matters is Manziel has a better shot of doing something on the field this season than last. quite frankly the offense didnt look much better with hoyer than Manziel in the preseason so i dont think Manziel is as far off as people think.
Manziel still has a better arm than Hoyer and definately a quicker release than weeden and he will be in a system that allows him to improvise as opposed to force him out of the pocket.

The QB coach did a good job of showcasing Johnny as capable pocket passer perhaps he can help johnny realize that on the field.

What ill be looking for this season is if Manziel makes adjustments after the huddle and if he uses his check downs and if he goes through his reads before breaking out of the pocket.
you know quarterback stuff

The biggest red flag came in his last game vs LSU for me. Windy vs. Nfl talent on the front 7 who forced him to make NFL throws inside the pocket. He looked really really bad, and it stuck out to me when I was trying to decide if he could make it as an NFL QB. The Browns took him and I talked myself into him. I said Farmer must see something I dont. Only time will tell, but he def has a long way to go, and last year was almost a throw away year due to the lack of playing time. Honestly, in many ways he is still a rookie in terms of his experience at the NFL level.
A good year for him would be providing mediocre QB play that is up and down. It would be a huge step from last year. Problem is not sure his upside is actually much more then that at the pro level, I am thinking he at least turns himself into a respectable backup if he stays sober.

Just watched the tape on that game.

Definitely a lot of bad, but in my opinion a surprising amount of good for a game that is commonly cited against him.

The biggest thing I take away from that game is that you shouldn't ask Johnny to do too much for you. They got behind and basically asked him to try to win the game for them.

TAMU lived or died on Johnny, and I think Farmer is trying avoid that by building a defense and running game that can carry the team when Johnny, or any QB for that matter, is struggling.

I give him credit for trying to get away from the nightlife.

Johnny Manziel moves from downtown Cleveland to golf community

The Browns quarterback has moved out of his downtown Cleveland apartment and into a golf course community in a suburb west of town, according to a source.

Golf has been a constructive outlet for Manziel since his return, the source said.

The QB's old home, the Metropolitan at The 9, was the site of an alleged Nov. 22 assault of a fan by a member of Manziel's "entourage" at 2:36 a.m. Manziel was not listed as a suspect, and the fan, Chris Gonos, later apologized publicly. Manziel said shortly after the incident that the fan aggressively approached him.

Manziel has stayed out of the spotlight in recent weeks, issuing a statement on April 17 apologizing to the Browns, hoping to regain trust in the organization and acknowledging his recovery will be an "ongoing process," thus asking for privacy.

He got right into the playbook upon his return, the source said. Cornerback Joe Haden said he's noticed a change in Manziel and believes he can "1,000 percent" become a starting NFL quarterback. Left tackle Joe Thomas, who previously suggested Manziel had lost some trust in the building, told NFL Network last week Manziel has been "night and day" better in his approach this month.

Manziel has work to do in order to see the field. Coach Mike Pettine told Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan it's "fair to say" veteran Josh McCown is expected to top the depth chart to open camp.

I give him credit for trying to get away from the nightlife.

Going to be tough to afford it on a backup's salary, can't imagine those sponsorship deals are rolling in like they used to either.

Wait, what golf course? They all have a bar on-site. Also, I remember a former Cavalier, known for being a little Hollywood, who was shooting 1000 jumpers a day to get ready for his breakout year. Then the season started and everyone realized that was bullshit. Thanks for posting that blurb from last year, Torn, of Manziels 'first in, last out' claim. We found out later that was also bullshit. Now we can sit back, wait for preseason, then the games and put the talk of New Leaf Johnny to the test. As of now we are hearing the right things.

Whitner the latest Browns vet to speak publicly about Manziel.

The Browns have made plenty of moves this offseason, but quarterback Johnny Manziel has made a major move of his own since being discharged from inpatient rehabilitation about a month ago.

Two weeks ago, Browns strong safety Donte Whitner revealed on the team’s radio show, Cleveland Browns Daily, that Manziel has moved out of his downtown Cleveland apartment in the Metropolitan at The 9.

ESPN.com reported Tuesday that Manziel has relocated to a golf course community in a suburb west of the city and has been using the sport as an outlet.

“He made a move. He doesn’t live where he used to live anymore,” Whitner said April 21 during the radio interview. “He’s not doing what he used to do, which is just the beginning. So I believe with hard work, with having new offensive coaches, a new mindset, not doing the things that you used to do, I believe it’ll all come together.”

Removing himself from the nightlife of downtown Cleveland is seen as a positive step for Manziel, the 22nd overall pick in last year’s draft. He spent more than 10 weeks this offseason in an inpatient rehabilitation facility specializing in alcohol and drug addiction treatment.

During a radio interview with 92.3 The Fan, Browns coach Mike Pettine said Monday “it’s fair to say” veteran Josh McCown will be the favorite to be the team’s starting quarterback entering training camp this summer.

Meanwhile, the Browns are hoping Manziel can stay sober and give himself a legitimate shot at a comeback on and off the field.

“I’ve been a believer in Johnny from day one,” Whitner said. “The physical attributes, the fiery type of guy and the things that he brings to an offense and the problems he can give you on the defensive side of the football with that extra being able to get out of the pocket and let guys run free, I still believe that he can do those things. I believe that he will do those things. So we still believe in him. He’ll have to compete for a job, but I believe that he’s up for the task. So we’ll see what happens.”

Pretty sure one of the articles said he moved next door to Krueger. IF that is the case then his house is On Red Tail Golf course I believe. I played there a few times last year.

Unless Avon Lake and the area golf courses have suddenly become fixated on the temperance movement, this is a non-story.

Unfortunately this got a lot more coverage than the fact that yesterday was the first day that players were able to work with coaches on the field.

I find it hilarious that they did all of this re-branding, yet, the new draft picks and current players are trotting around in the old gear. Am I the only one who thinks this is stupid?

Pettine went on ESPN during the draft wearing an old pullover, too. It's a fucking joke.

You can't tell me that Nike hasn't already made up new gear. I mean I could see them not having enough, or not being ready to sell it to the general public yet, but they should at least have it for the team.

It annoyed me as well that ESPN had the old logo in the ticker.

I'm not mad about it or anything, but it peeves me because it's a huge marketing oversight. I'm not even into marketing at all.

It started, for me, at the jersey reveal. They had DJ EV (a CLE DJ) playing music the whole night and he was up on stage wearing some old gear. I almost went up to one of the Browns employees and told them they have a mannequin standing up on stage in DJ EV and that they're blowing a marketing opportunity.
