"Everything I've ever seen him do is all out," Matthews said. "He worked hard at everything he did. When it was time to practice, he would be out there competing just as hard as he would in a game. that's all I ever saw from him, nothing but good things."
Long track record? This is Manziels 4th year playing football after his redshirt season
In the time he went from 3rd string qb to starting qb. won the heisman. carried a defensively weak team his 2nd and then getting drafted.
He obviously takes football seriously and as he told Gruden he got asked to do things and didnt know how to say.
sure Manziel got caught up in the celebrity game and made a quite a bit of mistakes.
He then set about a course of action to address those mistakes. Action not just words.
I also think the criticism of his not being prepared is over blown . He went in and did his job as the back in the buffalo game and worked extra to prepare for his first start.
Kingsbury described Manziel, who redshirted last season, as “making some plays in the spring, but he was pretty reckless with the ball.” That's changed this camp, both Kingsbury and Sumlin said.
“The guy won in high school, he's extremely athletic, he's soaking things up and working very hard off the field,” Sumlin said Thursday after practice of why he ultimately pegged Manziel over sophomores Jameill Showers and Matt Joeckel.
Specifically, Sumlin said Manziel (6-foot-1, 200) has improved his poise in the pocket during camp, vital to Sumlin's charged offense.“He knows he can run,” Sumlin said. “But he's done a better job this (camp) by staying in the pocket a little bit longer, instead of just escaping early and running like a crazy man all over the field.”
This was after Johnny had been busted in June for drinking
from last season
The Cleveland Browns are reportedly impressed by Johnny Manziel’s work ethic. No, seriously.
Despite his offseason partying, the Browns’ first round pick (No. 22 overall) has brought a “first-in, last-out mentality” to training camp, according to NFL Network’s Charley Casserly.
» Despite all the off-field white noise, Manziel was described to Casserly by multiple team sources as bringing a "first-in, last-out mentality" and showing up to camp with a better knowledge of the offense. Verbiage is the biggest challenge for Manziel, but Casserly was told the rookie is "doing fine" with that aspect of the playbook.
Manziel isnt suddenly showing work ethic he has had it all along.Manziel went off the rails last season but he had some help he got beat by distractions and realized he had a problem without his college buddies lookout for him.
This Johnny lied and betrayed me stuff I dont get at all
What matters is Manziel has a better shot of doing something on the field this season than last. quite frankly the offense didnt look much better with hoyer than Manziel in the preseason so i dont think Manziel is as far off as people think.
Manziel still has a better arm than Hoyer and definately a quicker release than weeden and he will be in a system that allows him to improvise as opposed to force him out of the pocket.
The QB coach did a good job of showcasing Johnny as capable pocket passer perhaps he can help johnny realize that on the field.
What ill be looking for this season is if Manziel makes adjustments after the huddle and if he uses his check downs and if he goes through his reads before breaking out of the pocket.
you know quarterback stuff
