Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching the National Championship game I saw a guy that is a system QB that is not very accurate and can be shut down if you don't let him run.

If getting shut down is 333 passing yards and 39 rushing yards, sign me up for that.

He played two teams with a ton of NFL talent (FSU, OSU) and his combined numbers were:

50/73, 671 yards passing, 4 TD's, 2 INT...........18 carries, 101 yards rushing, 1 TD

He had ratings of 150+ in both contests.

Was he otherworldly? No but those aren't exactly horrible numbers when playing defenses that good.

I thought he played well vs Ohio State, who lets admit were just on another plane of existence during those final three games.

He threw one interception and that was a desperation heave when the game had already been decided. He could use development, but so could any qb coming out.

He couldn't throw that 5 yard out when it mattered though.

It's not Mariota's fault that none of his shitty receiver's could catch a fucking pass...

He definitely doesn't turn the ball over very often passing. He does have fumbling issues, and the majority of his game films show one read throws.

He seems to have a plus arm and good accuracy though. Combined with his mobility, mental makeup, and poise, he definitely has the potential to be a great quarterback.

Any down side for Mariota relates to his lack of experience.

Last Season Johnny wasnt even on the team yet. this season he has worked out with the team and is working over to study the playbook
Last season Manziel wasnt even given a shot in the regular offseason they two offenses and the one Johnny ran that people criticize him for not learning it apparently confused everyone else too.
This season theres one playbook and one offense for everyone . instead of completely different blocking schemes, pass routes and checkdowns full fledged offense . you have 12 plays tailored for Johnny.
Last season Johnny Manziel was a party boy rich guy with his first summer off from College entering his pro life.
This season Manziel knows whats involved and has taken steps to minimize distractions in his life

Last season Johnny was instructed to "act like a backup " quarterback. This season he's being asked to show what he can do.

Last season he was given 6 quarters to be the man with an offense that confused the seasoned veterans around him. it was a disaster doesnt. mean the team and the player can learn from it.

One thing is for sure if The browns do draft Mariotta it will be quite a compelling quarterback battle

I feel like every year around this time the QB we recently drafted(the year before or so) gets a little media boost.

Brady Quinn is working hard, really looks good.

Colt McCoy seems like a brand new guy.

Brandon Weeden found his socks.

Now it is Manziel is night and day different.

Johnny showed his form could be adjusted on his pro day.
Johnny Football showed off perhaps the biggest arm in the draft. Bridgewater struggled to get deep zip on the ball at his pro day, and Bortles threw the deep ball well a week ago. But Manziel flashed perhaps the best pure arm strength of all the QB prospects, easily laying the ball out 40 yards for his receivers on several occasions. He did it both on the run and after setting his feet.

Manziel’s deep balls were particularly impressive. He ended the session by hitting Evans from about 65 yards out on the money, and throughout the workout, he got excellent touch and air on his long bombs. He showed a good feel for how and when to lay the ball out for his targets, and he didn’t throw any long incompletions.

It wasnt his fault he played in a horizontal offense.
Johnny can throw the 15-20 yard pass in tight windows. He has excellent ball control. and he can improvise.

Manziel isnt your prototypical quarterback
He can throw across the hash marck and go routes. im not sure how anyone can legimitately states he has a weak arm.

compared to who? dan Maroni? Andrew Luck? peyton manning?Bret favre?

Mazniel played in a horizontal system who throws with alot of touch.

not having elite arm strength isnt the same as a weak arm.

Manziel's ability to lob balls down the field has never been in question.

It's driving the ball through traffic which he's never done and probably will never do consistently.

Johnny has no more excuses now. Premier offensive line, good pass catchers at WR and TE *Bowe, Hartline and Housler are all threats in the passing game*, a real honest to god running game, great defense.

After this draft, Johnny has a chance to prove he belongs in the NFL. If he doesn't, you better believe the Browns will find someone to take his place.

This is his chance. Johnny has the best situation that any QB the Browns have had in a very long time. If he fails, he's a goner in the NFL, IMO.

I agree, the Browns have set the tables to truly evaluate the kid in 2015. There won't be viable excuses for him any longer. They can protect him and give him a good running attack which will free up the play action game. He either shows signs he can get it done or they move on.

For the first time since 1999 I feel like I can say the Browns almost have a perfect situation for a young QB. Wish it wasn't Manziel but still a great situation with a likely top running game and perhaps the best OL in the NFL.

Also vet WRs like Bowe and Hartline will probably help Manziel more than a couple rookies in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

Manziel will be fairly judged. Period.

Don't worry, it'll be someone else in 2016.

They could have given him more than 2 games last year.

Hopefully this year they give him at least half the season....

If he can't beat out McCown as the starter, that should be a pretty strong indicator as well.
