Kareem Hunt: One Pissed Off Runner!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why do people view this as so binary? Either you only care about winning football games or you’re a moral person who won’t support someone who assaulted a woman

What about those of us who wanted to see Hunt back in the league even before the Browns signed him? The ones who believe that someone can change and don’t believe that this should end their entire career. The ones that don’t view going to anger management and alcohol counseling as a joke, but someone who might genuinely be remorseful and trying to change the way he is

Those of us that don’t think society should be so quick to throw a person away as @chrisrich91 said in a post much better than I can say

But don’t act like everyone who supports this Hunt signing is only about winning. That’s just trying to moral high ground others

I don't think it's one or the other, I just think it's how important off the field is to you vs winning. And this isn't a Browns thing - this happens with sports fans all over. The playbook is this:

1) Minimize what happened - saying things like "It wasn't that bad" or "I've seen worse".

2) Victim blame - we've already seen a ton of this already.

3) Talk about how we hope he can "turn it around" and get the help he needs.

Now, #3 may be legit. But a big part of that for most is tied to hoping he can do so so he can score touchdowns for the Browns.

major reason I didn't wanna sign this dude.

This entire thing has been a fucking headache.

Saw takes ranging from Daryl Ruiter getting on a soapbox discussing some legit trauma he experienced to rando NFL writers going "But kaepernick can't get signed.

What happened to Ruiter was very sad, and I applaud him for overcoming it and sharing his story. However, being raped and abused as a small child has absolutely ZERO to do with what happened between Kareem Hunt and that girl. That was the reach of all reaches.

And Kaepernick isn't signed because he isn't good enough to warrant the media circus that comes with him being on your team. Period. The last we saw him as a starter he was getting benched for the likes of Blaine Gabbert while his team finished with a 2-14 record.

If he helped win football games, yes, some (not all) people would be fine with signing the devil himself.

So I make a long, thoughtful post and you include a blurb of it and bold an even smaller part of it, without further comment, insinuating I am rationalizing or defending any behavior. What I AM trying to do is put it in it's proper box, and find some perspective... and that is a bridge too far for you apparently.

If you lack the ability to judge situations on an individual basis without any nuance, that speaks more of you than your faux blanket moral outrage.

@Steve_424 and everyone,

I do want to say that, despite my opinion on the video itself - under no circumstances do I accept or condone domestic violence or abuse of women, or assault/abuse of any kind. Nor do I think something like that should be taken lightly. I hope my post wasn't taken that way. I truly offer my sympathies to anyone who is a victim of some kind of assault.

Hunt clearly has an issue with his anger and I hope he is getting the right help for it and learning from this whole thing.

Didn't take it that way at all, just light hearted poking fun at you.

I am not a survivor of abuse, but I have worked with survivors throughout my life. I think Darryl's intent was probably to show that this signing has the potential to impact those who have gone through something similar that are also Browns fans.

Except.. it really WASN'T that bad. Put this video next to Ray Rice or Joe Mixon and tell me it doesn't pale in comparison. Go ahead, I urge you to publicly take that stance. That's not anyone being a fan, that is reality.

Also, saying that both adults acted like idiots in the scenario isn't "victim blaming" lol.. that is ALSO reality. They.. both acted like drunken fools and both deserve recrimination for it.

All of that because buzzdog said he saw, "absolutely nobody defending or even rationalizing that behavior" and I provided a few examples of people doing exactly that?

Vee-Rex's 27-year old, pixie-cut hot wife said it isn't a big deal. Case-closed. Why are people still discussing Hunt?

I'm not sure we can confirm her expertise on this subject until we find out how many times she's asked to speak to a manager.

I am not sure why we are comparing it to other situations, but here's your public declaration:

Hitting a woman is despicable, regardless of the level physical harm it causes her.

I thought I quoted your post when I posted this the first time, probably user error.. but uh... I was not defending nor rationalizing. So, yes, "all this" for making that shitty accusation.

Cool. So Ray Rice knocking a girl out cold and then dragging her body like a carcass out of the elevator is the same as a drunken shouting shoving match.

You are working HARD to gain that moral high ground. It's not impressing anyone.

I am also curious about the timing.

We can debate all we want about what an appropriate punishment is. But why sign him now? Were other teams on the verge of signing him? Why not wait and see if he can stay trouble free longer than 3 months before you sign him?

Even if you think this is a great move, why do it now?

It gives them as much time as possible for the “drama” of this to blow over, especially when you’re in the dead part of the offseason.

Ah so it's

1. Always the worst interpretation possible and murder

2. The victim has literally zero contribution to the situation and

3. They are forever irredeemable.

Got it.
