Why do people view this as so binary? Either you only care about winning football games or you’re a moral person who won’t support someone who assaulted a woman
What about those of us who wanted to see Hunt back in the league even before the Browns signed him? The ones who believe that someone can change and don’t believe that this should end their entire career. The ones that don’t view going to anger management and alcohol counseling as a joke, but someone who might genuinely be remorseful and trying to change the way he is
Those of us that don’t think society should be so quick to throw a person away as @chrisrich91 said in a post much better than I can say
But don’t act like everyone who supports this Hunt signing is only about winning. That’s just trying to moral high ground others
I don't think it's one or the other, I just think it's how important off the field is to you vs winning. And this isn't a Browns thing - this happens with sports fans all over. The playbook is this:
1) Minimize what happened - saying things like "It wasn't that bad" or "I've seen worse".
2) Victim blame - we've already seen a ton of this already.
3) Talk about how we hope he can "turn it around" and get the help he needs.
Now, #3 may be legit. But a big part of that for most is tied to hoping he can do so so he can score touchdowns for the Browns.
