Speaking of his home town, if I took the idea of him leaving seriously, which I don't, I'd be more worried about Portland losing Aldridge and pursuing KLove. Portland has two advantages over LA: 1) it is actually a decent team, and 2) it is actually his home town.
But the Cavs are an ideal situation for him. A team that he already has been through the fire with that reached (most likely) the Finals *without* him and with our second best player at half strength? Where he could be that last missing ingredient for a championship? There is no evidence that he has had anything but good relationships here in Cleveland. It's perfect, and frankly if he left he would look like he was scared of the challenge of winning it all.
I'm pretty sure Kevin Love
lives in Los Angeles guys.. Like, he lives in Santa Monica AFAIK. He grew up in Portland, but again, AFAIK, Los Angeles is his home by choice.
For example,
my home is Honolulu, not Cleveland; even though I was born and raised there, I would never want to live there ever again.
If I could play for Cleveland or Honolulu I would, but my personal preference would easily be Honolulu (but being from Cleveland I would make the
sacrifice to live in Cleveland to win a championship there).
Another thing that's important to note; folks that grow up on the coasts don't seem to think like this. They don't think, 'man, this is my hometown and
they need me.' I don't think there's any motivation from the heart to drive Love to play in L.A. (or Portland) other than the fact that his father played for the Lakers.
If I were Kevin Love, I'd ask the Cavs to make some changes with the offensive system to incorporate me a lot more; if they agreed, I'd stay for a year and feel things out - if they didn't agree or said it was up to Blatt,
I would leave. It's as simple as that.
People say it's an ideal situation for him, but it's not. If it were "ideal" he wouldn't have been complaining year round. Not everyone wants to be a third wheel, especially not a guy with MVP aspirations.
And just for the record, I'm not speaking for Kevin, I'm speaking for myself.
If I were him, I'd be kind of pissed at how this season played out and I'd want assurances that things would be different. Kevin Love is his own man and has stated he's not going anywhere, so I take him at his word.
