And when you mention Brees, just think he is behind the center that we scrapped (Faine) because he supposedly sucked. He goes down there and looks solid now. We sign their all-pro center and he blows out his knee the first practice of training camp. People that say there isn't a black cloud over this franchise need their heads examined.

Yep. Like if we drafted LT he would probaly be a big bust and been hurt and never get even over 1,000 yards in his career.

give me a reason besides his height that he wont succeed.
I think Smith will succeed at the next level, and I don't want to give the Smith haters any more fuel :), but to answer your question: NFL scouts are often wary of QBs who spent most of their college career performing out of the shot gun. Smith has ran a number of plays under center, sure, but a good deal of his success came via the spread.

As a fellow drunk, the beers are only $6.50!

I'm kinda glad for this season, b/c I can improve my seats on my psl's!

I'm a diehard baby, still goto every game and stay unless it's the fourth quarter, blow out and I'm extremely drunk and pissed.

It's all about tailgating.

As for the draft, take a OT or DT 1st round, please! Most knowledgeable fans would rather have that then Troy Smith top 8. Hopefully we get Alan Branch

I have a bet with a buddy we made before college football started, that Troy Smith will not be a 1st round pick. I took the side that he won't be a 1st round pick, while my buddy is adament he'll easily be 1st or top 15 material.

I couldn't agree more. This is my fourth year of season tix and if it wasn't for the tailgating I'd probably rarely go to any games past the season opener. It's the only thing I look forward to now on home Sundays because we already know we won't win walking into the Stadium. Imagine how fun it would be if we actually fielded a good team someday...

as i said before, the heisman isnt for the best NFL prospect, its for the best player. and his height is THE problem, a 5-11/6-0 come on man, he is a great player on the college level. why do you guys want to gas him to be some lebron-esque savior? it takes most QBs a while to get adjusted to the NFL game...even if he is drafted by the browns, it will be a painfull adjustment.

James are you blind. Read the last sentence in my last post.

GIVE ME A REASON BESIDES HIS HEIGHT WHY HE WONT SUCCEED IN THE NFL.

You knocking the guy becasue he won the Heisman, once again a borderline moronic statement. Blame the guy for being the best college player this year. :weirdo:

How do you know Brady Quinn will succeed. You dont. Its a gamble. Just because hes a couple inches taller. Thats bs. Tell that to Brees, tell that to Earl Boykins, to Doug Flutie.

What Im getting at is the only reason you or anyone else is knocking the guy is because hes 6 feet tall. Big freaking deal. Talent is far and beyond more important than a couple of inches.

It is a "big freaking deal". If it wasn't, every single mock draft would have him in the first round....none do. Many don't even have him in the second. The height issue is enough. No one needs to give you another reason. Every single team is going to pass on him in the first round because of it. WHY CALI?
It's not a guarantee that he won't succeed, but that is the ONE huge reason he is a major risk. I hope he proves everyone(including history) wrong.

name one other QB who was 5'11 or shorter....thats 2 guys....Flutie was never anything but a backup and wasnt drafted near the 1st round or at all for that matter

and Brees is solid and has had 1 great year....couple of good years and 1 great....it helps he has played with LT, Reggie Bush and Duece McAllister but hey he is pretty good

name someone other than those 2....its a FACT shorter QB's in the NFL are not as good as taller ones

sorry but its the truth

the shotgun thing that Style brought up is another great point against drafting him in the 1st 2 rounds let alone the top 5 picks overall

So if he's 6'2 he's a first overall pick? Man height does matter, but it's way behind actually skill and leadership.

No, but it puts him in the first round....at 6'4-5" he's a top 3 pick.

leadership? um when have you heard of rookie in football being the locker room presense? i havent. stop gassing this guy just because he is on OSU, if he were on any other college team, you would be saying the same thing im saying. smith wont have the same kind of talent he has to throw to, there arent many teams with a GREAT target at WR, and a great TE, OSU gets the cream of the crop for college. You guys talk like this guy is going to be a starting QB, sorry, thats not going to happen, take him for what he is.

Not shit he won't start. Hell what rookie QB starts now a days? No ONE! Or atleast not at the start.

I would bet he will be a starter somewhere by his 2nd year. And if he is there in the 2nd round for the Browns I will probaly disown myself from this damn team if they don't draft him. Ok so I lie but I will be super pissed.

guys....I was accused of a Michigan bias in this thread

how about your own buckeye Bias.....when he gets measured at the combine he is going to be 5 foot 11....sorry he was a great college player but we are talking about the NFL

if Troy Smith is 6-4 he is th number 1 pick....but he is not....wait to GM's and scouts all see how tall he is at the combine...then they will start talking about other flaws like all the shotgun he played in and how his ball handling mechanics arent the best and how in the NFL he is really only an average athlete and then as things start to snowball on him before you know it he is a boarderline 2nd rounder and most likely a 3rd round pick

if the Browns take him in the 2nd they are stupid

I have no bias on this issue. If quinn was 5' 11" i wouldnt have a problem. If your a gamer than your a gamer.

Why hasnt his height been a problem in the college game.

One thing people never mention is his super low wind up on his passing mechanics...that is fixable, but being a short QB, having little flaws like that doesnt help.

When Rivers had that same issue, it wasnt a big deal because of his height and passing angles, but they still had to fix it to get the ball higher on his body.

Just something to chew on.

Kind of reminds me of Charlie Ward. Dude won the Heisman and then joined the NBA due to his shortness if I remember correctly.
