LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
5 double doubles in a row, 10 in the last 11 games. Not to shabby for a perimeter player.

Describe him in 3 letters.

Lloyd’s notes on LBJ:

1. LeBron James began his Thursday avoiding reporters and ended it by explaining why he tweeted a “Happy Birthday” message to Lonzo Ball and talking about his house in Los Angeles.

2. Yep, the Lakers were in town, bringing with them another 24 hours of hand-wringing over what James may do next summer when he can become a free agent.

3. For the record, he played fairly well, too, matching Larry Bird with his 59th triple-double, which ranks as the sixth-most all time and the Cavs won for the 16th time in their last 17 games. But basketball always seems to get swept away at certain points when it comes to James, and this is one of them.

4. To recap: James said on media day it is still his intention to finish his career here. That doesn’t assure he will, but it’s certainly nice for Cavs fans to hear. ESPN reported Thursday that James is a “long shot” to sign with the Lakers next summer, and while members of his inner circle have absolutely been publicly and privately downplaying the likelihood he signs with the Lakers, it’s important to understand some of those same folks were the ones insisting to the Cavs in 2010 that James and Dwyane Wade couldn’t play together. And we all know how that turned out.

5. James, meanwhile, insisted he doesn’t do things like tweet October birthday messages to Ball just to watch the internet explode. He did it because Ball has said on more than one occasion that James was his favorite player growing up.

6. “I was humbled by that. So me wishing him a happy birthday was kind of a salute back to him,” James said. “I see all the stupid noise that happens. You know I can’t buy a home in L.A., I can’t live in L.A. It’s funny noise. But I don’t get involved in it. When I post things, I don’t look at comments because I’m so far removed from the white noise and the noise doesn’t matter to me.”

7. Winning is what matters to him, as well as continuing to play this well. The Cavs stayed hot because James cruised to a quiet 25 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, Kevin Love had 28 points and 11 rebounds and Jose Calderon continued to impress with a season-high 17 points.

19. James skipped out on his usual media availability Thursday morning because he didn’t want to have to answer the Los Angeles questions he instead answered postgame. But he has been highly complimentary of Ball most of the season and is one of the few who can truly relate to the scrutiny the Lakers’ youngster is dealing with every day.

20. James spent a few moments with Ball after the game Thursday, but pulled his jersey up over his mouth so no one could see what he was saying. Then he later declined to say what he shared.

21. Ball has struggled with his shot at times this season, but James and Lue both lavished him with praise after the game.

22. “It’s always team. He passes the ball. Pushes the ball up the floor. Someone you want to play with,” James said. “This is a team game. Everyone gets so caught up in this whole individual thing and the whole team game gets overlooked.”

23. Only James is mighty enough to tie the Celtics and Lakers together on the same night. He even has Kobe Bryant talking about him. Bryant appeared on UConn women’s coach Geno Auriemma’s podcast recently and said if he could return in his prime, the one player he’d most like to play with is James.

24. “He’s a facilitator by nature. And I’m a finisher by nature,” Bryant said. “Those two styles complement each other extremely well.”

The secret conversation between LeBron James and Lonzo Ball has leaked thanks to a well-placed microphone on the court.

Ball and James wouldn’t talk about the moment after the game, but thanks to investigative reddit user u/IT-3, most of their conversation can be heard (starting at 0:24):

“Find your zone and just stay fucking locked in.

“The media is going to ask you what I told you right now. Tell them nothing.

“You’re competing against the best, and you’re going to get better every single day. (Inaudible) It’s white noise. That’s all it is. Alright? Let’s go.”
