LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I understand the in game frustration of getting blatantly hacked and not getting a call, but if he called out refs after a game, it'd be WAY more effective (and expensive, yay fines!). Yeah, you'd get fined, but can you imagine how differently the league would have called the Finals if LeBron tells the world that the refs botched half a dozen calls. That's horrible PR for the league, which is why they fine people who say such things.

But the casual observer sees LeBron go to the floor and wonders how this athletic freak fell down without being fouled. And then hears him complain about getting fouled without getting a call and they probably agree with him. The league would have their hand forced.

It's been like this for years now. I honestly don't think there is any conspiracy, I just think the NBA refs are the worst refs in the world.

It's the lack of consistency that really bugs me about the NBA (and NFL). If they called every single thing, the NBA would look a lot different than it does today. There is literally a travel on every play, offensive fouls on just about every play, and defensive fouls on almost every play.

I would much prefer they just picked one style of calling a game as a group, and stuck to that. We aren't going to call touch fouls, which is my preferred style to watch, or we are going to call touch fouls. Don't just say oh he is a big guy, that wouldn't effect him as much as a small guy, that's not what referees are for. The rules are in place so there is no subjectivity.

At least when an NFL ref makes a mistake or 40, the NFL'S rules are all subjective. Nobody can define a catch, and it's their jobs to determine what is and isn't. An NBA refs job is just to call a objective game, not a subjective one.

I will never forget the Mozgov travel, the Iggy foul a foot away from the ref (like come the you know what on man, ball watching isn't even an excuse smh), and the absolute worst was Currys back court.

THERE IS A LITERAL LINE THAT CURRY CROSSED AND DIDN'T GET CALLED FOR IT! How is that possible.

Totally agree with you there. I really have to say the referees really take a lot of the enjoyment out of the game for me. And it got 100 times worse during the Boston series in particular last year and then later in the finals with all the inconsistent BS calls going on. You just never know what in the world they are going to do to mess with the game, each and every quarter can look drastically different as they switch up the rules on everyone.

It straight up made me want to not watch the NBA anymore, but I just can't give up after all this time when we're so close. I'm seriously considering "retiring" as a fan though when LeBron goes if the refereeing doesn't shape up big time.

One thing the team needs to start doing is just not complain. LeBron should be getting more calls but asking for them is not the way to get them.

NBA officials are like chicks at the bar.....and not the ones who just bone anyone. You need to loosen them up with a few drinks and compliments before you really get what you want.

The more the team whines like the 2012 Miami Heat, the less officials are going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

All of that starts with LeBron too. He needs to stop complaining and others will follow suit. If it continues to be an issue, that's when your coach starts making 25k donations at his press conferences.

I agree that it is far more effective to make the fuss at a press conference than for players to argue with referees on court.

There is constant contact in the NBA even though the rules pretty much prohibit any of it. So the referees can pretty much call a foul on every contested drive to the basket. Since LeBron drives a lot and forces much of the contact, I think he only gets "fouled" on some of them in the minds of the officials because if they called them all the other team would have no one left to play on the court in the 4th quarter. What probably frustrates him the most is he will get calls on some minor contact then get assaulted and there will be no call. Not sure any strategical complaining is going to make it better for him.

None was worse than Mozgov's "travel", which effectively lost us the game and the series.
The non foul call that led to JR'S suspension, Klove's injury, and any one of the calls that led to game 1 OT in the finals that cost us KI. I mean shit it's sad really. We lost two stars to injury directly because of reffing.

@scopedog I think I'm with you. I love basketball, but I have an actual horse in the race, which is why shitty refs actually piss me off. In the NFL where I watch 4 or 5 games a week and couldn't care less who wins or loses the games, it doesn't bother me nearly as much.

There's still hope, but I've often questioned why I even bother, when an amazing series like Cavs. vs. Warriors can be absolutely ruined by officiating.

Edit: I just wish there was some acountability for the refs. They can have as much of an impact as any player, and there's nothing if they make mistakes. There's no suspensions, or fines, or media callous that last longer than 30 seconds. They just move on to Johnny footballs latest twitter pic. Even when there is a media call out, they don't say the refs name 9/10 times.

A panel of former refs, league execs, and former players should be set up to handle the refs. There's always going to be mistakes, that is the human factor, but when a ref, or group of refs consistently make egregious mistakes, that is when the panel should be able to step in, and fire them, suspend them, or fine them.

As much as I wish the "refs will treat you more fairly if you don't complain" school of thought were true, I'm not sure that it is. Exhibits A and B: James Harden and Draymond Green.
"stay quiet and humble and people will give you what you want"

yea, that's not life, but there is a probably a breaking point where people are over the talking

Well, Tim Donaghy did go to jail finally. But that's the exception that proves the rule.

Many do. But the refs are unionized, which makes comprehensive oversight doubtful. The league's reviewing the fouls in the final minutes of games is a step in the right direction though.
