Manny Harris

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

He has to be better than what we get from AP. Not to mention AP's days of playing basketball are pretty much done and Manny is a solid young prospect. I think he just really needs experience playing in real games. Why do we continue to play old washed up players? Trade Jamison for a pick to give TT more time and bench/trade AP (not that anyone would want him) which would allow our youngsters to battle for the position. This would allow us to further evaluate Manny/Eyenga/etc. If we feel those guys have no hope for the future then it can be adressed through the draft or with the cap space we have this summer (Baron's contract + Twans = $$$$$$ to spend if anyone would want to come).

Byron is just frustrating me. Great coach, but he isn't fully letting the youngsters prove themselves and develop. Dear Grant, PLEASE TRADE JAMISON. Once that happens we have truly begun a young team rebuild.

"It's great to have Anthony Parker back" - No one ever

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

Manny > Weak Sauce
Manny > Erden
Manny > Casspi
Manny > Harangody

there it is there are 4 players albeit at different positions seeing time before Manny

manny may be the first player to request to go back to the DLeague

both he and Samardo don't look like happy players based on facial expression and body language

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

I have hard time imagining Casspi or Parker scoring 40 in a D-league game. Hell right now I'm not sure either of those guys would be considered a Dleague starter right now.

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

For the zillionth time ... unless you're watching these guys in practice like the coaching staff does, you have no clue where they're at or what they deserve.

When the Darnell Jackson's of the league average 32 PPG in the NBADL ... who cares?

Practice? We sittin in here talking about practice? Not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice?

Who cares about practice. The players he has played at the 2 and 3 haven't shown anything besides Gee.

Even though I'd LOVE to see more manny, this is still true. There has to be a reason why Scott is not playing him.

Certainly not Allen Iverson, but coaches care about practice. They may not be waiting for Manny to outplay Parker in practice, but they want to make sure he graps enough of the offense/defense before throwing him in. While fans live and die on the trials and tribulations of end of bench players, I think a lot of coaches see them as little more than filler to help even out a scrimmage, or to be pressed in to service due to injury or foul trouble. Dunno. The key is we'd have to know what Scott is seeing and thinking and we don't. I always try to give the coach the benefit of the doubt on things like this.

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

I don't think Byron is basing any decision about Manny on practice. He can't. The Cavs have had only one practice (Monday after the All-Star Break) since Manny was signed, and they won't practice today. 10 days, 1 practice.

Everything suggests that Manny was signed as an emergency backup in case Gibson/Parker weren't ready to come back. Gibson's return, followed by Parker, took away any time for Harris.

I don't know if anything will change for Manny if he gets signed for another ten-day contract unless injuries flare up again. There won't be much practice time until March 15-17, by which point Manny would need to be signed for the rest of the season to still even be on the team.

Guess I missed it when Manny Harris became a proven all star level player. I'm all for giving him and other young players minutes and reducing minutes of some vets, but I'm not going to pretend he's a top prospect. D League stats mean little. There are players who are no way close to being NBA caliber players who have put up good numbers in the D League.

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

I was going to say pretty much what wuck said. The only thing I'll add is he may get on the court at the end of a blowout or if we start losing guards to trade or injury. Last night didn't count for blowout minutes even though we lost by 20 because we had it down to single digits late in the game. Perhaps tomorrow's game against the bulls gets out of hand and he gets some time there, otherwise the Nuggets and Thunder game are his best chances in a blowout situation.

Other than that, the opportunities are limited because we aren't playing 5 guards and we aren't benching the 4 who are playing just to give him a chance when he's only had 1 practice with the team. Even with a 2nd 10 day contract, practice time is very limited. We have 8 games in the next 13 days and don't have a 2 day break until the trade deadline. We only have 1 off day in that whole stretch that doesn't also involve travel between games.

I would like to see him get some playing time so we can see if any of his d-league improvements carry over. But I can also understand why he hasn't played more than 6 seconds yet.

Not talkin about all-stars here, were talkin Luke Harangody, Omri Caspi, Samardo Samuels, Semhi Erden, Ryan M F'in Hollins, n we cant find ANY mins to give this kid?

You do realize that none of those players are affecting his chance at minutes. Unless, of course, you intend to play Manny at say PF or Center. Manny is here to play at SG. I'd suggest trying to argue that he should be able to take some of Parker's minutes.

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

Coaches need to give these guys a chance to prove their worth by playing them some minutes. We already know that he can play in this league last season how better he would be this season is yet to be known since he is not given enough chance to showcase his game.
