Manny Harris

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

Coaches need to give these guys a chance to prove their worth by playing them some minutes. We already know that he can play in this league last season how better he would be this season is yet to be known since he is not given enough chance to showcase his game.

1st round picks get a chance ... 15th guy on the end of the bench? Play time is solely at the coach's discretion.

btw, Manny has yet to prove anything at the pro level. If he had, other teams would have snatched him up the second we released him.

Re: Manny Harris signed to 10-day contract

I'd quibble with West:
On meds he was good, close to elite IMO (you can again see how good he is this year for Dallas). At his best in Cleveland I think he was clearly better then Person, Phills, Smith, Davis
Off meds: well you know the story

Are we grading on the Cavaliers curve here?

**Disclaimer**
Manny will not be the next Jeremy Lin. But there's also nothing to lose by playing him some to see if he's improving, especially with our piss poor situation at SG.

Not really: Let's phrase the question differently and say Delonte blew his knee out after the 09 season instead went on the crazy train? With a different frame of reference I think most people would say it's too bad west got hurt and remember his time here much more fondly. Unfortunately mental illness isn't as physically obvious.

Along the same line, it is the time reference and here I think injuries help clarify my thinking. FOr example, Grant Hill career over the last half decade has been defined as being a good role player but include his early career and you have a superstar calibre player. When you evaluate a career or time with a team it's a bit arbitrary at where you look at.

That's fine if you think West was under-rated in that ranking, but I think it would be more accurate to knock the other guys down a peg (or two in some cases), than move West up one. Ehlo should be higher as well. I'd take him any day over Ricky Davis.

Manny will not be the next Jeremy Lin. But there's also nothing to lose by playing him some to see if he's improving, especially with our piss poor situation at SG.

Jeremy Lin played a total of 284 minutes his rookie season and is only up to 823 total in his career. Manny played 933 his rookie season.

"We've got nothing to lose by trying xxx" does motivate some coaches, but most of them have a process and a pecking order that determines play time and if a spot in the rotation is up for grabs who gets the next chance. Manny may get a shot, or he may have to take what he can get and show Scott that deserves more.

It's just how it is. Mike Brown was not unique in this approach and neither is Scott.

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

The main frustration to me lies in what is needed out there right now with this team and that is another kid who can take it to the hole.(create) Either play Sessions and Irving together or get a kid like Manny out there. I understand Scott playing the guys he THINKS he can win with...but as a coach, there comes a point to where you've got to adjust.

Manny can certainly create for himself.

Parker continues to get run because he can create for others: 6 assists and 2 turnovers in the last 2 games (40 minutes).

In the same span: Kyrie has 10 assists and 5 turnovers, while Ramon has 5 assists and 3 turnovers.

Manny's best 2-game assist combo from last year was when he dished out 8 assists combined in his last two games. Alas he also shot a combined 1 for 12, but at least he didn't have any turnovers.

So, I'll give the theory a definite maybe, but I wonder if Manny would keep an eye out for when Kyrie is open like Parker does?

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

Would like to see Manny get some playing time in the next few games. I know he may be a chucker at some times, but he can be solid.

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

He had a nice little flurry in garbage time. I'm still looking forward to seeing more of what he can do.

Manny scored 9 points tonite on 4 of 8 shooting in 18 minutes of play and was the Cavs' leading scorer on the wing. How said is that?!! Given our lack of offense on the wing what do the Cavs have to lose in playing Manny. Scott was quoted today as saying he likes Manny's defense and toughness. We know Manny can score given what he did as a starter last season (11.3 ppg) and what he did at Michigan and in the D-League. Casspi, Parker, Gibson and even Gee didn't get it done tonite. Gee is the best scorer of the four and he has been struggling mightily as of late. Isn't about time to see what Manny can give us...before his 2nd 10-day contract runs out?

18 minutes... it sounds like they are giving him the chance and seeing what he can do for us...

EDIT (& OT): Manny weighs 185 lbs? Wow, he is a little dude.

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

Harris wasn't that great tonight until he hit a few shots in the last minute of the game during ultimate garbage time. He wasn't much better than Parker until that point.
I'm all for giving him some minutes but I don't have huge expectations for him.

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

Just got back from the game tonight. Few thoughts on Manny:

-You could tell that he was extremely focused on playing solid defense. It was pretty clear that Scott told him he needs to play good D if he wants to earn minutes. I thought for the most part he was successful, though he spent a lot of time in unfavorable match ups. This is where adding some bulk would really help him the most. When he was on the floor he gave more effort than any other Cav on the defensive end. He had a few great contests that led to bad misses and really got up into guys.
- He was pressing a bit on offense, didn't seem like he was sure what his role was at times. He missed his first few shots, lost confidence, and passed on a few wide open shots that he should have taken. Fortunately he made one, gained some confidence after that and drained a few more. He's definitely quick enough to get good looks at that mid range jumper.
- He adds some much needed athleticism when he's on the floor, but again, to really take advantage of it he'll need to add some muscle. Unfortunately he just doesn't have the frame to add a ton of bulk, a la Alonzo Gee. But if he could add even 10lbs it would make a huge difference. That might ultimately determine whether he has a long term place in the league.

I think Scott will be pleased with his effort on the defensive end which will hopefully lead to some more opportunities for him in the coming games.

Re: Manny Harris signed to second 10-day contract

Definitely uncomfortable at first. He was out of position a lot, but he can close very fast. When parker was in the 3's were raining. With Gee and Manny on the court, most shots were contested. I really wish Boobie was a better pg, because I liked those 3 out there with Tristan and Samardo. Very athletic, and tough group.

He was hesitant on offense until it didn't matter, but I think he will get more comfortable once he positions himself better. Looked good finishing. It was very tough to drive on the bulls tonight, but he did alright. That last step back near the free throw line looked good. If he can do that consistently and hit a 3 once in awhile, he could be pretty good and open up the lane for himself. Love his speed and length.
