Marreese Speights Has a Player Option

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mo is a player that has skill and talent to be a good offensive and defensive player. Hes a guy we keep around and see if MB can "fix". Same as kyrie, but we like Kyrie more so nobody cares that he can t play D. Miles is a guy also that we keep and see if MB cant help him. If Mo and Miles dont play D under Mike Brown they are lost causes and should hionestly not be in the league, because both are athletic enough to become GREAT defenders. CJ Miles especially...guy has size and is LONG, like cmon dude why inst he already a defensive specialist

One thing I never got was where did these guys grow up, and play that gave them the mindset D didnt matter? Where im from being horrible at D would get you kicked out of a pickup game MID GAME. Like 1st they switch your man, but if you were still bad they would literally stop the game and sub your ass out. Now if you looked to be trying youd be good but if you were Kyrie'ing and CJ'ing that shit and not even trying youd get taken out even if you waited an hour to get in a game. Idk why this "To be a great player I have to be good at D also" hasnt made it to alot of these young players. They sure didnt get it from the 90's players like MJ, Kobe and such. I mean damn if you remember it took Lebron 6 years. I just think these kids dont have the drive to be the best. Like that undying passion to improve their game, or that cockiness to come out and say "IM THE SHIT WHEN YOU PLAY US YOURE GONNA HAVE TO TAKE ME DOWN TO WIN" mindset.

Where did that go man? What type of player is literally sitting there saying "If im good on offense thats good enough for me?" Thats total BS...get your ass on some defense too bro. I just dont get it, why not want to be good on D, especially when you have the tools like Kyrie?

I just dont get it

Mo was already under a great a defensive coach in Memphis. He didn't get it then.

The Cavs getting another center to go along with AV and zeller would leave speights into a power forward role. He does much better at this poistion and not everyone can handle being played out of position like al horford but yeah i agree Speights at this point needs to do a bit of soul searching .

I think that's a good comment. That probably strikes to the heart of Bob Finnan's comment about how Speights might not fit with the culture that the Cavs want to develop.

Interesting he will be part of the summer camps. Doesn't sound like a player who is opting out.

If Mike Brown can get him to play defense, he seems like a guy who could at least be a valuable trade chip at the deadline, if not a long-term piece for us.

Speights was actually supposedly coveted by the Cavs in a draft when Mike Brown was coach. Not sure if Mike Brown had any say in the matter, but it is possible Brown liked Speights. I can see him as a trade chip at the deadline. If we take Noel, the timing would work out pretty well for trading Speights when Noel is ready to come back. I still sort of like Speights, but I can't see him being here long term. Hard to give a guy a significant contract and asking him to accept that contract being the 4th, even 5th big.

you guys are grading him as a center.. he isnt a center and he knows if he stays in cleveland he will finally get a chance to play the majority of his minutes at the 4 where he can really shine in the rotation.

This is a good point. He has some ability to stretch the floor a bit as a 4. Could be good behind TT, possibly playing with Noel a bit. It'll all be about his defense just like every other guy who wants to play for Mike Brown.

With Varejao, TT, and Zeller getting play time, I see him getting little playing time. If Noel comes into the picture, I see him getting no play time.

I see him getting plenty of playing time once Andy takes his usual midseason vacation. And lets not pretend that Zeller is anything more than a rotation player on a bad team at this point in his career.

And those guys can all play together. Speights conceivably can play with TT, AV, Zeller, or Noel. With AV needing his minutes pulled back a bit and Noel coming off an injury its not the worst plan in the world. I suspect even if he didn't stay that we'd pick up a big in free agency.
