Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Delly is a few minutes per game, impact player. He is being asked to carry way to big a load at the moment and is doing what he is capable of...if we had a full roster, he would be back to his role...but it is all hands on deck at the moment...there was no one else to play the minutes tonight. Yes he did not play great those last 2-3 minutes...but really, the Sixers should never have been that close to start with...and that is not just Delly's fault, that is on the whole team

I've seen replies over and over again of the last 10 seconds against the Sixers, it looked like Delly tried hard to pass the ball to Love, but was afraid/wasnt confident it wont turnover, I'm pretty sure Blatts first choice was to get the ball to Love.
Delly souldnt be in a position to run plays on clutch time, he Blatt and everyone knows he isnt a superstar, but he had to be that guy since we are missing all of our starting roster. you cant blame the guy, he isnt getting paid for this, hes getting paid for a few minutes here and there, so let's just thank him for trying (I thought this going to be much worse at the begining after seeing Dion was also out, but he actually had a solid game).

Some crazy knee jerk reactions in here. We all knew what kind of player Delly was. There were special circumstances that led to him playing 40 minutes tonight, which will NOT be the case normally.

Delly is a solid back up PG. He puts forth effort on defense (and is overall, a solid defender) and is usually steady with the ball (8 assists tonight, only 2 TOs). People forget that this is only his 2nd year in the NBA. People calling for him to be cut, or that he should not be on this team are over reacting. The kid missed a couple key free throws and had trouble getting post passes into K-love. We have seen Kyrie struggle at making those same entry passes his entire career and anybody can miss key FTs.

Some of you need to just relax. Delly is a serviceable back up PG, the kind of team first player that should be on teams that have championship aspirations.

This cant be a serious post. just cant be. lol

He's not shooting well enough to be the backup PG for this team. He's shooting just 32% for the year and this isn't getting better (same percentage over the last 10 games). Unlike a guy like Dion he generally takes good shots but damn this is doubly frustrating as that means the plays are working as designed and he can't execute them.

Did you watch last years team? Your join date makes me wonder. Anyways, Delly did some solid things in an appropriate role last year. Then again, it was a bad team last year and as rosters and coaches change, so do roles. Delly can have some value in a small role for certain teams, but I am beginning to questions if thats something he can ever do here.

But to judge him when completely miscast on a night like to tonight is not fair. Everyone knows Delly is not a playmaker. He's not a starters minutes guy or even heavy minutes guy. He's a glue energy guy who in some matchups can come in for 4-5 minute spurts and provide a lift. I'm making no arguments that he should be our backup PG at this point, but I also have no doubt that if we cut him today, he would find another place on an NBA roster.

The biggest question on my mind is "when is Kyrie getting back?"

Right he was good last year on a bad team. On a team with deep playoff aspirations he has been terrible so far.

Delly is a great player....for the 5th guard position he should be in. Can't fault a guy for not being able to compete with "starters" for 40 minutes a night. He's great in bursts off the bench.

lol at using someones join date to determine when they started watching Cavs games. You can't be serious.

You're right. It has more to do with the quality of their posts.

Anyways, with Shump and Smith coming in, our wing rotation is going to be packed. I would expect to see Delly playing the appropriate amount of minutes once Kyrie gets back.

The team needs a real second string PG, but I'll be happy to have Delly on the team for the times when a player with grit and defense is needed.

Delly, while serviceable last year, is not athletic enough to be a back-up PG on a CHAMPIONSHIP caliber team. It's not an issue at the moment because we aren't championship caliber. However, i expect us to look for some help in the off-season.

Delly thoughts:

1) He needs a more limited role. He is the type of player where 15 minutes of him makes you want more and 30 minutes makes you want a lot less. He can be a shot in the arm but not someone you consistently play big minutes.

2) We did miss him when he was out. Everyone remember Will Cherry? It was brutal. But that doesn't mean we can't upgrade Delly if possible.

3) His passing is bad. I don't know what the stats say but it often feels like he can't make the pass and that won't show up in stats. He struggles with long passes and passes into the post from what I've watched this year. And you need a guy with confidence to make those passes.

I got some rib when I said last summer (before we got LJ) that I expected him to be out of the rotation if we were serious about building a playoff roster around Irving.

Truth of the matter is, Matthew cannot dribble the basketball in motion. For a PG that's a death knell and means he won't be in the NBA for long. As far his defense and shoot making, those are decent (thankfully for him, defense is very much effort related), but it doesn't help that he is slow, especially laterally.

He is at his best when he has another ball handler on offense and he can just spot up on offense.
