Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

That's just brutal but in other circumstances, he wouldn't be taking those shots. What really hurts as posters have mentioned is his inability of late to hit open shots. 23 of his 59 three pointers have been corner threes and a lot of these have been wide the fuck open. He's only made 26% of those. For a guy who cannot create a shot and can't score in any other way really, he's trot be able to hit wide ass open shots.

But he is better than Price who might be as bad an NBA player as here is. I know it was last ear on vs team the wasn't expected to do anything but Delly was both a plus defender and plus offensive player. I know he's not the ideal backup for a contending team, but we know he can be effective in the right role.

Active, high energy defender willing to try to check anyone on the opposing team. Good assist to turnover ratio. Good understanding of the concepts the team runs and a leader on the court. Shooting percentages that make your eyes bleed...

He's basically the white Eric Snow. Nothing wrong with keeping a roster spot and a handful of minutes a game for a guy like that when he costs you less than 1M a season.

And Dellys defense is bad. Any PG who doesnt fall for his stone wall hands up act can bulldoze him right to the paint and score

Sorry - no way Delly is even close to playing Eric snow type defense.

I'm starting to think the only reason Bradley beal complimented delly's defense was to take a shot at dion in the process

Haha. Thats true. and I think it was just a matter of sample size...

Delly locked Beal up the ONE time they were matched up. So Beal probably just assumed he was a lock down defender...

Actually, I'm happy Delly is here for the 10 minutes a game he should be getting. In no way is he the white Eric Snow. With the two of them on the same roster, Snow would easily get the bulk of the minutes, even with no ability to hit a three at all.

Kid is all effort, everyone appreciates that.

But the Cavs could use an upgrade at the backup point.

I am excited to see what his defense looks like with Mozgov at center. I think Delly's defensive approach changed dramatically after December 12th when Varejao wasn't protecting the paint. Delly was forced to sag back and play less of a team defense. Mozgov should get everyone to look better as defenders.

As for Delly's floor game, he is still at a 2.8 assist to turnover ratio, which is very good. Some of the comments make it sound like he is Elfrid Payton dribbling off his own foot out there.

Dude needs to get out of this shooting funk. Everything else will take care of itself.

Delly's spot is there for the taking. Blatt said he is not supposed to play so many minutes. Problem is that no one runs the offense as well as he does. Can't win shorthanded by freelancing.

First off, this thread has just become a litany of overreactions. I just read a post that said if one player plays fifteen more minutes in a game, Blatt gets fired and the team gets an interim coach push through the season as a result.

I mean come on, that's just blurting out wild consequences like a drunk dad who caught his kid beating off.

Let's remember why Delly was getting more minutes. He is the backup point guard making $816,000 a year. Why is he the backup PG on a cheap salary? He was better than Jarrett Jack who made 6.3 million, Karasev who made 1.5 million, and Waiters who made 4 million and proved over the course of last season they just couldn't run the offense better. Salary had to be cut to find room for some legitimate starters, and the overpaid fat was trimmed.

Why is a backup point guard playing 40 minutes a game not at backup point guard, but instead at an off guard position? Because the team just traded for not one, but two swingmen. So we are blaming the guy who is making one sixth of his opponents' salary to play out of position because half the team was traded that night or have been injured.

Did anyone notice that OKC also got blown out last night after the trade was announced? It is a jarring thing that happens one night out of a long season.

Fucking perspective, people.

Still - the Sixers loss was well-nigh inexcusable. And Delly was a huge part of that, bricking shots down the stretch. If he was so aware of his limitations, someone else would have been taking those shots.

Could not have said it better myself. It's bad enuf to have him on the floor so much. But to allow him to continue taking crunch time shots is unacceptable.

I got some rib when I said last summer (before we got LJ) that I expected him to be out of the rotation if we were serious about building a playoff roster around Irving.

Truth of the matter is, Matthew cannot dribble the basketball in motion. For a PG that's a death knell and means he won't be in the NBA for long. As far his defense and shoot making, those are decent (thankfully for him, defense is very much effort related), but it doesn't help that he is slow, especially laterally.

He is at his best when he has another ball handler on offense and he can just spot up on offense.

Spot up and do what? Shoot 32%?
