Net Neutrality

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember when we paid separate for all those services three years ago? That sucked didn't it?

Remember 3 years ago when your only choice for cable TV was your internet provider or just to go with satellite. Now you can pick from alot more streaming based companies with a package that fits your needs. Net Neutrality gave them the opportunity to compete with cable companies because they knew they were not going to get throttled or pay a premium for the ISPs to carry them to their consumers. Are they big enough now to pay that premium or can the ISPs toll them to death?

To just ignore and dismiss the possible benefits of this action is being so damn naïve.

People acting like it's Armageddon in here. Time will tell.

Thank God for adBlocker. Only site I don't use it on is RCF.

Will adblock work when your ISP wants to embed ads into your browsing? They might just shut out certain content completely till you turn it off.

Netflix, sony, hulu are certainly large. ATNT has their own streaming services with direct tv now.

I'm an expert at this stuff... and from a consumer perspective, I'd really like an explanation as to the possible benefits?

This exactly. The outrage is just ridiculous. You should see all the people foaming at the mouth downvoting me on reddit. :chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

The day that my ISP attempts to install ads into my browsing software is the day I cancel my subscription.

Oh he did? Maybe you can explain to me how it was because I don't recall it being an issue. Remember, this was only two years ago. Remember how shitty the internet was two years ago?

Yes, I did.. I explained to you numerous times how net neutrality helps to prevent throttling. You simply dismissed what was being explained to you...

You've said this before, but, people did pay for separate services years ago.. Email wasn't always free.. Google and Microsoft jumped in and changed the nature of email to turn it into a marketing data source. But to argue that ISPs won't create banded packages and preferred routes makes no sense given that was the entire reason for ending net neutrality in the first place.

He's pulling one of those "I'm wise because I recognize that there are two sides to every story" moves, which we see here from time to time. Almost always, the poster neglects to discuss the actual merits of either side and basically advocates doing and saying nothing because we can't possibly know everything.

Google and microsoft offered free email before net neutrality. Your isp has always given you a free email address. Mine gave me free access to usenet.

The landscape is exactly the same as 3 years ago right? tech doesn't change in that amount of time. You don't seem to understand that the ISP's are actively trying to make up for their loss of income from Cable TV right now, and their actions toward this was why these rules were made in the first place.

When many of us told you about our experiences with Throttling, you completely dismissed it. Yes the internet is better now than 3 years ago partially due to net neutrality.

They definitely are large enough but the question will be were they going to be the best at it. The best option might never grow to market now with the tolls they will have to pay. NN repeal hurt startups from jumping into the market and competing with the big boys. It's another barrier now, just controlled by 3 big ISPs.

It's nice you have that option. 51% of households only have 1 broadband option. Most people.are and will be stuck into their current ISP.

Wireless networks will continue to keep improving and there is plenty of competition. Land line access can't just sit on their hands.
