Anyone else excited about The Leftovers second season?

Some Arrow season three spoilers (up to episode 3x11) coming...

I'm just trying to figure out why exactly Malcolm Merlyn is still a bad guy at this point. Like, I totally understand his motivations in the first season. His wife got killed and he wanted to cleanse the city. Crazy, sure, but at least understandable. But in this season I really just don't get what he's going for. His logic for having Sara killed doesn't really make any sense. Does he honestly think Oliver can kill Ra's (dude got his ass handed to him)? Why wouldn't he just do the trial by combat himself if he considers himself a dead man anyway once Oliver loses?

It seems that, given Oliver's role in trying to clean up the city, they should basically be on the same side at this point. I guess it would have been too original and refreshing to have a former villain end up on the same side as the hero, though. Regardless, I just don't understand any of his motives this season. He waffles between totally logical and wildly crazy with no real consistency. It would have been much more interesting if he hadn't been responsible for Sara's death, and instead just really wanted to become closer to his daughter. They just kind of turned him into even more of a cartoon supervillain, which is depressing. I wanted to believe him when he said he had nothing to do with Sara's death because that would have been a much more compelling plot. The fact that they went back and made him the guy behind it all was just depressing.

I'm also not totally sure how Oliver was revived. Wasn't he sitting on the cliff for like four days before his body was recovered? How the fuck is he alive again? Do they explain that? Because I certainly didn't see him getting dipped in a Lazarus Pit (which is what I expected to happen when I saw him die). Further, dude fell like several hundred feet onto pure rock. How does he not have five dozen broken bones? Is that Asian lady a magician?

As far as Merlyn goes, his best plan would have been to frame someone from the League of Assassins as Sara's murderer and use that framing to team up with Oliver to take down Ra's. Given the blood price on his head, teaming up is clearly the smartest play for Merlyn. If they were going to have him be the one to kill Sara (or at least be responsible for it), that would have been a much more interesting plot than what we got.

Oh yeah, and the threat to Merlyn seems totally fucking idle. He's been haging out in Corto Maltese and Starling City for months and basically no one has tried to kill him. The League of Assassins just seems totally inept right now. He's barely even trying to hide. He's showed up in numerous public places, including places of known connections like Oliver's night club that you'd think the League, should they really want him dead, would be watching non-stop. Why the fuck does he fear the League at all when they weren't even remotely successful in even finding him even after they were pretty sure he was still alive?
Alot of these questions are answered in the second half of season three. This is where Merlyns agenda becomes perfectly clear and the selection of Sara Actually makes alot of sense. I think his plan was to get Arrow killed and have thea all to himself none the wiser and If Arrow somehow won. well one less enemy to concern himself with. merlin wasnt really the number 1 most wanted by the League of assasins.. this was hinted at several times. If anything once the heat died down it seemed mor elike the league was keeping an eye on him than actively hunting him down. perhaps they had some respect for his abilities and resources. As far as Arrow surviving the fall. As fr as surving the fall.. extreme luuck as towards no broken limbs and the comic book lore does have suspicions that the Green Arrow is in fact metahuman. even if he wasnt.theres still 2 years of his time away unnaccounted for who know what he was injected with or what his metabolism is like. Apparently though he was frozen on the cliff. for whatever reason his buddy seemed to think he could be possibly be saved.

But isn't that why it's a League of Assassins? There's more than one, and as such they can tackle multiple problems at a time? I just don't really see how Merlyn was so amazing at hiding that this legendary guild of killers couldn't find him, especially since basically everyone else was able to.

Now it's Oliver making decisions that make absolutely no sense. I'm on episode 3x15 and Merlyn has just been taken by the League, and now Oliver wants to fucking save him? I'd be like, "Well, problem solved." I really don't understand the whole idea that he's trying to save Thea's soul. Is she really going to be that crushed that she served up the guy who drugged her and made her kill her good friend's sister? I just don't buy it. She flat out told Merlyn she didn't consider him a father any more.

Like, what if Ra's just killed Merlyn immediately when he arrived at Nanda Parbat? I know that won't happen, but how does Oliver know that Merlyn will even still be alive when he gets there?

Just keep watching. A lot of the questions you have about Malcolm and Oliver's intentions play out as the season winds down.

So far my favorite part has been when they are trying to sneak out of Nanda Parbat and proceed to be literally as loud as possible. Diggle fires a fucking gun, which would probably alert every single person in the entire fortress. Also, why did the first guard immediately attack Merlyn? How could he have possibly known before seeing Oliver that Merlyn wasn't just on a late night stroll through the castle?

you sure merlyn didnt initiate that contact jack? if its the same scene im thinking of .

The show did want the fans to question everything for season 3. whereas season 2 was pretty much done at face value. its seems to the point in your case. your actively looking for flaws.

Pretty sure the guy saw Merlyn and immediately attacked before Merlyn did anything.

Also, this season is starting to make the League of Assassins look like a bunch of fucking chumps. Even Laurel is kicking their asses by the end, and she's had like a week of actual training. They're basically a bunch of red shirts. It removes a lot of tension from every scene where it's just random assassins because they've been established as completely fucking useless.

I understand Merlyn being able to kill these guys because he's a total badass. Maybe Diggle too since he's spent years training with Oliver (although even he shouldn't have been a match for them until this season when he started training with Merlyn). But Laurel? Bitch should get offed in like two seconds facing off against multiple trained assassins.

Laurel being a badass is the worst part of the show. She went from some fragile drunk to a martial arts master in like 6 weeks. She was getting smacked down by the henchmen of the local villains to taking out LOA in 3 weeks. Just terrible. But as long as Emily Bett Rickards looks like she does on that show, I'll keep watching.

Also looking forward to the recurring role of Mr. Terrific next season.

I know a lot of people don't like Denis Leary for ripping off Bill Hicks, but Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll seems decent.

My favorite part of the third season finale of Arrow:

The Flash shows up and basically completely neutralizes the League of Assassins. Presumably he knows that the League has a bioweapon that could wipe out Starling City. They ask him if he can come back to Starling with them and help them defeat the League. He says, "Nah, I've gotta meet with my boss." Jesus fucking Christ is that bad writing. I get that the Flash could basically solve every problem in the finale on his own, and thus they needed to remove him to make it Oliver's moment, but the reasoning for getting him out of the way was just so awful and artificial to the point that his inclusion at all was just stupid. I mean, would Barry Allen really return to Central City knowing an entire city's population could be murdered? It just didn't make any fucking sense.

cause the flash finale and the Arrows finale occurred at the same time

But he had time to travel to the fucking Himalayas but not back to Starling City to spend five minutes cleaning everything up? He could have been back in Central City in less than an hour after arriving in Starling.

That doesnt make any sense . he was trading favors. his "boss" was his main priority. As far as Arrow was concerned there would be nothng to clean up .
Arrows plan was to blow up the bioweapon himsself and rha ghoul. so he would of told flash to go back to reverse flash as soon as he finished rescuing his friends. his friends didnt know what his plan entailed nor would i expect the flash. This coincides with one of Arrows comic book deaths where he died in an airplane explosion only to be brought back by the green lantern
it was a funny line in context to what was happening in flash
