Well you would assume we would get involved since they are our ally. The question is, would China get involved? Apparently they aren't happy with North Korea, so there's a chance they could sit back and let us wipe North Korea off the fucking map.

Pretty sure South Korea. Not the U.S. unless if we get involved.

There's no way we couldn't get involved. Any war between the DPRK and South Korea is a war between the DPRK and the United States; a war very much likely resulting in a nuclear exchange.

But... none of that is very likely to happen. And this is not really "Breaking News."

The DPRK does these "announcements" to keep it's people on edge. The constant fear-mongering within the state, by the state, is a method of control on it's people. The South Koreans do the exact same thing, often fabricating nonsensical reports in the media to generate fear and show the DPRK as being completely unstable.

We do it here in the United States as well.. Remember "THREAT LEVEL ORANGE?"

It's just a means of control. You can go back to last year alone and find over a dozen of these "threats."

Kim couldn't be that stupid. He has to know that if he actually makes good on his threats that he will be wiped out from power, or from existence. The guy has it fucking made at the moment because nobody wants to spend the time and money to free that country, so he can do whatever the fuck he wants at all times. Every once in awhile he opens his yapper like a harmless small dog, but really he just wants to hold on to what he already has. I don't see him jeopardizing it.

People always bring up China in any conflict with NK as well. I don't think China has been too pleased with NK for some time. They are dead weight to them. Both China and south Korea send food and other supplies their way, but I talked with quite a few people over in China and they all thought North Korea was bat shit crazy. Both America and China mutually host a lot of their students and I felt like an all star guest wherever I went.

Uh... US and South Korea are involved in
A jointv military exercise right now, Ulchi Freedom. This is just the weekly North Korean saber rattling. They will do something ambiguous, like shell a warship or something. NK don't want war, just the appearance of one to keep order.

They do this every year before the exercise.

I have friends at Camp Casey and they're pissed because they can't get laid thanks to new curfew. Wouldn't be surprised if they took more shots at the DMZ or a naval vessel though.

Norks are going to Nork.

everything about this post is true expect for nuclear. DPRK has chem/bio weapons, no real nukes

We won't have a choice but to get involved. The troops we have on the border of NK and SK act as a brightline. If American citizens are killed, which they obviously would be, we would attack.

Now, this is not likely to happen. NK actually needs to blow smoke every once in awhile to appease its population. The way the Kim dynasty has ruled is terrifyingly brilliant. The citizens of NK are so insulated and die at such a young age that nearly none of the people currently alive in the country really understand the world on a global stage. Hence, if the NK government endures a period of instability (a few have happened in the past two years), the Kim family needs to make it "clear" that they are protecting the citizens. Most research on the contemporary country is circumstantial at best, yet, what it does show is that the dynasty has used food policy (to starve and effectively kill off the population), fear tactics (global world hates us), and promise of stability to stay in power. That's all this act seems like to me.

DPRK has tested three weapons so far. The strongest was in the 6-9 KT range. It is thought the maximum strength of that weapon could be close to 40 KT. It is estimated their stockpile is between 12-20 warheads.

Their ability to deliver those weapons is primitive. Their best intercontinental ballistic missile, the Taepodong-2, supposedly has a range capable of delivering a single warhead as far as Anchorage. Of course, they have never successfully tested the missile.

If you want to have some morbid fun, check out NUKEMAP to see how many people would be killed by nukes of various sizes. A direct hit (not likely with their technology) on Anchorage with a 10 KT device kills 9,000 people.

South Korea is an ally. We would be involved.
