Oden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

Oden is worth taking a chance on if your background checks and physicals give some sign that he could come back and play regularly. That being said, you don't get into a bidding war for him and if he doesn't choose the Cavs than I wouldn't at all be upset. He is a risk and odds aren't exactly in his favor. Very bad knees, multiple surgeries and multiple injuries aren't exactly great for a basketball player. Z and his foot issues are very different and I'm not sure a great comparison.

If Oden does come back there needs to be reasonable expectations. He's likely a 20-25 minute a game player at best. You may also have to sit him out on some back to back or 4 game in 5 night situations. Also limit his practice time.

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

I text my dad:
"Also sounds like Oden is leaning towards signing with the Cavs after the trade deadline."

His response:
"He better not lean too hard... he may hurt himself..."

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

The question I was addressing was how effective Gregg might be with reduced athleticism - which is a great possibility after any surgical operation.

If you want to continue to play MD and insist his knees have 0 chance of holding up, that's fine, but not relevant to what I was discussing.

Q: What do you see happening at trade deadline with Cavs? Oden? @JohnPalciskoThe Cavs made their big deal already, so the pressure is off them to get something done at the deadline. They’re still looking and would be open to renting their remaining $4 million in cap space for another draft pick, but I’d suspect they’re done.
Incidentally, they could use the rest of their cap space and still sign Greg Oden to a contract for the remainder of the season for the veteran’s minimum and give him more next year.
Oden’s interest in the Cavs is very real. I’d suspect the Cavs might be more patient with him next season than a team like the Miami Heat, which is in win-now mode and looking for a center. And don’t underestimate the team’s ties to the Cleveland Clinic, which they are using as a big selling point.

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

I'd be really interested to see if he's added anything to his game during his time off. Any news on that?

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

If the cavs do sign Oden, and do end up getting noel in next years draft the cavs could have one of the leagues great goon front courts in the making.

Varejao/Oden
Thompson/Noel

The floor space constriction.. The team would simply be known as the python hosting 4 guys who could make an all defense team. The team could jump up to one of the top 15 defenses, shutting down the paint, pounding the boards on both ends. the team would desperately need to add a 60% efg three point shooting small forward.

Conley: ’50-50′ Oden Signs This Season
By HOOPSWORLD

The San Antonio Spurs have the best record in the NBA and the Charlotte Bobcats have the worst. But they have something in common.

Mike Conley, the agent for often-injured free-agent center Greg Oden, said Wednesday they’re both teams that interest his client.

“I definitely can see both of those teams (as possibilities),’’ Conley said in a telephone interview with FOX Sports Florida. “San Antonio has an aging front line with (Tim) Duncan, and with Duncan and the Admiral (retired David Robinson, who still lives in San Antonio), he would have some great mentors.

It would be a risk signing Oden, who hasn’t played in an NBA game since December 2009. He has had five knee surgeries since being the NBA’s No. 1 draft pick in 2007, but he wants to resume his career next season.

“A few weeks ago, I’d probably have said it was 80 percent,’’ Conley said of Oden signing with a team this season. “Now, I’d say it’s 50-50.’’

Sounds to me like the offers he has been getting have been underwhelming. Explains why he is broadening his preferences for teams.

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

I take that comment as him seeing what happened to Brandon Roy and reconsidering. hehe

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

Wed be a perfect spot for him. Our clinic is one of the best in the league at rehab and care. Also if he does come back able to play we would be the perfect fit skill wise. Right now we NEED a good defensive C with offensive moves. I bet he could be our 1st big off the bench or maybe start if he truely came back healthy. Odin healthy was a VERY DECENT NBA center. Its been so long ago but he was damn good. Also if we do trade Andy, Greg would come back and be the emotional leader of this team. I know we would ALL get behind him and pray for him to succeed. Its a real nice vibe for a team to have a player like that, that the whole city just fucking loves.....You never know maybe he gets healthy and Memphis plummets and he attracts Conley back to Ohio, you know they love each other.

Re: Oden eyes Cavs, Heat

At this point the only expectation anyone should have for Oden is as a rotational guy. If the Cavs pick him up thats exactly what they will treat him as until he proves otherwise.

I really hope he can play, regardless of where he ends up.

I'm really curious to see how much he has left or if he has added anything to his game during his time off.
