*UPDATED*
Sorry, a lil behind
Columbus dropped its Friday night game, 5-3
The story of the game, undoubtedly, (again) is Michael Aubrey, as he banged out 4 hits in 4 at bats, including his 3rd double of the season (also drove in his team leading 8th RBI)
The bad news for the Clippers? He had half of the team's hits.. Besides Andy Marte's triple (in which he was stranded at 3rd base), they managed just 3 other hits, all singles (Brantley, Valbuena, LaPorta)..
Brantley continues to show the Tribe he can be their lead-off man of the future, as he swiped his 3rd base of the season, then stole third for his 4th of the season..
Kirk Saarloos started for the Clippers and fell to 0-2 on the season, although he did pitch much better than his 1st start.. he finished going 6 innings, giving up 3 ER on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 7
The bullpen, however, could not hold the lead, as Rich Rundles and Jon Meloan (2 of the best in the Columbus pen this season) couldn't get it done, giving up 2 ER in 2 innings of work
Columbus, meanwhile, lost a heartbreaker, 3-1 today (Saturday)
Jeremy Sowers got off to a shaky start, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in the 1st inning, but settled in nicely, allowing just 4 hits & 1 walk over his last 5 innings of work..
Unfortunately for Sowers & the Clippers, the bats just couldn't get it going.
Sowers got tagged for the loss, even though he pitched very well & struck out 8 in his 6 innings of work.. (0-1, 1.64)
Ryan Edell came on in relief, and had his best outing of the season, allowing just 1 unearned run in 3 innings of work, striking out 2
As mentioned, the Clipper bats just couldn't get it going.. Chris Gimenez (who came in starting the season 0-21) went 3-4 and had almost half of the Clipper hits, the rest of which were scattered singles
By the way, Michael Aubrey is human.. he struck out in the bottom of the 9th, to end the ballgame, representing the tying run
