Last night I went to the Raleigh, NC show for Coldplay and I'd have to say they are amazing live. I mean the whole show was spectacular. When they played "Yellow" they throw yellow beach balls into the crowd, like 20+ of them. They moved around the entire amphitheater and even into the lawn. They did a couple of freestyles there and to cap of the show in the lawn they played a cover of Billie Jean, which IMO was the best cover I've ever heard of any song by any group. They did everything from The Scientist to Viva La Vida. I wasn't expecting them to play any of the old stuff, Clock/Scientist/Ghost, but they did and it made the night better. I'd say my favorite part was the Billie Jean cover, for whatever I reason I don't know.

ChicagoCavsFan, how was Lollapalooza? I have a couple of really good friends in Chicago but haven't taken advantage of that and gone to it since it came back a few years ago. I would think it would be crazy with so many bands to try to catch.

Mike Manifesto, Coldplay doesn't seem to get respect from a lot of people but they are a good band and put on a good show.

Thanks for the new Muse, Karma. I saw they had some new stuff coming out.

I find myself continually going back to Doves.

just got back from seeing Pearl Jam twice this week in Chicago. Still the best live band around today. Even if you are a casual fan go see them when they come to your town. They are still the best there is as far as a live show goes.

I've only seen live them once but they were amazing. New album coming out this month:

Yo, if you guys are looking for something to do on September 4th, friends of mine from San Francisco are playing the Spitfire Saloon in Cleveland:

^ I was at that show.

They are The Memphis Murder Men, a rockabilly outfit that rarely tours East of Los Vegas. They are vile, crude, and play hard. Check them out if you have nothing else to do.

Phil Selway (drummer from Radiohead) performs as part of "Seven Worlds Collide". This is a collaboration formed by Neil Finn which has members of Wilco, Radiohead, Kt Tunstall, Neil and Liam Finn and others. They have recorded an album which is out very soon. Proceeds got to OxFam.

Here's another with father and son, Neil and Liam Finn.

Thanks for the "Seven Worlds Collide." I hadn't heard anything about it. Those are some mellow tunes though. Still I'll have to check it out more since those are some interesting musicians that have come together.
I do think Neil Finn is one of the most underrated songwriters of the last 30 years. Also recognized the name of this project being taken from the Crowded House song "Distant Sun."

If anyone is a fan of Interpol, lead singer Paul Banks released a solo album in August using the alias Julian Plenti. The album is called Julian Plenti is...Skyscraper.
Sorry I have no You Tube on it. I've only heard parts of each song. Sounds pretty good. Some sounds just like Interpol while others are more mellow and others more pop oriented.

Some stuff I've been listening too...

Picked up that album last week. Haven't gave it a big listen yet as I've also picked up the Arctic Monkeys latest and Paul Dempsey (Aussie dude). But with the first listen it was solid. Detached enough from the Interpol sound for it to be worth while pickup.
