Pluto: Childress, WCO, and the draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would take Haden still because I think its harder to find shutdown corners (Haden isn't there yet, but he is a stud) than stud pass rushers. Than again, you can make the case how a good pass rush can make your secondary look better than they are. Either way, we were going to have a hole to fill at CB or DE when all was said and done.

Again, have to disagree. I like Haden, I think he's good. Unfortunately what makes him good is the way he gambles. He can shut down a top WR for 90% of the game, too bad it seems like he gives up a huge play that burns us at least once a game.

It may not be that difficult to find a good pass rusher, but it sure is difficult to find one as good as JPP. That dude is a straight up beast.

Of course hindsight is 20-20, but who wishes we drafted JPP instead of Haden?

It's easy to say now, though it's not as if we whiffed on Haden. Although, at the time we made the pick, we were still a 3-4 team. More of an indictment on Holmgren's decision to not jettison Mangini than Heckerts call to go with Haden.

JPP benefits so much more from the rest of that Giants Defense.

Right on the other side you have Osi, and inside of them you have Justin Tuck, and Canty. All of those dudes are freaks, and you can't double any of them because then you leave the other guys on Islands.

Haden has a poor defense and benefits from what? Mike Adams at FS? Our pass rush generally struggling to get to the QB forcing him to cover for longer periods of time?

Haden is clearly the better pick.

There is no clearly about it, that is your opinion. No doubt the Giants have a great line, but having a great line doesn't make it any easier for him to blow up the guy who's supposed to block him. He demands a double team because he blows up whoever is blocking him. A good pass rush helps the secondary more than a good secondary helps the pass rush.

Again, nothing against the pick, I like Haden and he was the right pick at the time. However knowing what I know now I'd likely go JPP over Haden.

I might have to argue this. I'm no fan of Wright, but Mitchell was flat out one of the worst ends in the NFL. I think he had 1 sack last season and seemed like he always got blown up at the LOS.

And Eric Wright was the nickle back in Detroit for the worst secondary in the NFL.

Clearly? All those guys were inconsistent this year, but JPP was constantly an animal. JPP and Sheard would be disgusting.

I'm not saying Wright is good, no way will I take that stance. I just think that, while Wright is a pile of shit, Mitchell is a huge pile of shit.

You're losing track of the other part of the argument... Haden + Mitchell OR Wright.

Now you're losing the other part. It would have been Haden + Mitchell or Wright AND JPP.

JPP was one considered one of the bigger boom/bust players in the draft. I don't think Heckert was willing to take that chance on him in his 1st year as GM. But I would personally had been happy with either of them.

I absolutely agree with you. Haden was totally the correct pick at the time, I was just saying that, knowing what I know now, I may have gone with JPP instead of Haden.
