I remember Papi when he was a prospect with Seattle named David Arias, iirc. He was electric with Minnesota, but Billy Gardner did not approve of his defensive liabilities. Then, DFAd. Would have loved to have seen us get him, but I guess we were deep on LHDH types at the time. So the fucking beaneaters get to win multiple WS.

I remember when Ortiz was with the Twins, and I was on the first base side of The Jake, like 5 rows back from the dugout with my buddy. I noticed something, he had a pair of gloves in his back pocket, with the middle finger clearly sticking up, and all of the other fingers tucked inside his back pocket. I pointed it out to my friend. The entire game those gloves where in his back pocket, with the middle finger pointed up. They never left his back pocket. They weren't his batting gloves, they weren't gloves he used on the bases. They just stayed in his back pocket the entire game, with the middle finger flicking us all off.

I hated Ortiz since that game. Fuck him.

Ortiz and Martinez are two more fine examples of late bloomers. I used them both as reasons I liked the acquisition of Franmil.

But in our present situation, we can't afford to acquire a late bloomer, if he is the centerpiece in a major trade.
