PS3 opinions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From someone dumping theirs so they can enjoy the privilege of paying monthly for network access?

They are (or were?) $100 off at GameStop with a coupon that PowerUp members should have.

With the coupon, they are $100 off til the 29th.

JonFromVA -- are you surprised at the games PS3 is offering? No they are not brand new, $60 games, but they shouldn't be. LBP and inFAMOUS are two really big named games, whether they are old or not, and WipeOut HD Fury looks like it could be a real fun game as well. Got great reviews for a game never released on disk.

As for Dead Nation and Stardust... I think they both look kind of crappy. More of what I was expecting for ALL 5 games...

I just need one for college and don't have a ton of money to throw around. I heard about that 100 bucks off deal, but how much were they to start out with and how much is the card you need to even get the discount.

Yeah, I thought it was nice of them to include some options which weren't PSN games, so yeah, I agree. There are also supposed to be some free movies coming our way as well. Also free PSN+ for a while. Freebies in PSN Home if anybody actually bothers with that. And a year of of free credit monitoring is supposed to be offered soon as well.

They're normally $300 at the low-end. The coupon takes $100 off. If you're not already a PowerUp member, I'm not sure if you can get the coupon or not unless someone in the program gifts it to you or sells it to you. Naturally, they're on eBay. It looks like people have recently bought them for anywhere from $2 to $41. One of the auctions said you have to be a member to use the coupon, so there may be fine print to work around.

Can't wait to get inFAMOUS. I never bought it when it came out, but I'm going to be playing it a bunch, which hopefully will lead to me buying inFAMOUS 2.

It looks like a real awesome game. The simple fact that you can scale anything in the world makes it awesome enough for me. I don't believe I have ever played a game like that and am definitely looking forward to that.

What are the games that you guys are going to choose? I'm kind of undecided for the 2nd one...

I generally enjoy the open world games where you can just do whatever you feel like and hop in to the plot when you like, and inFAMOUS certainly qualifies, but I already own it. By the way, it's gone on sale at Best Buy for $10.

So, I'll get LBP and whatever. Maybe something my kid likes, because I probably won't play it all that much regardless. The Zombie game does look kind of Diabloey, but I tend to only play those type of games in spite of being about zombies - not because I enjoy seeing zombies hacked to pieces and brains splatter.

Does anyone know where you can find Ps3's cheap? I'm gonna need another one.

Yeah. Smart move by Best Buy, seeing as they won't get ANYTHING for it once everyone that doesn't already own it, gets it for free in a day or two.

I feel like anyone that doesn't own inFAMOUS already, kind of needs to get that one before any of the others.

I'm going to let my girlfriend get Little Big Planet -- saves me from having to get it, and it seems like she would enjoy that more than I would. Since Dead Nation (Black Ops - Dead Ops Arcade) and Super Stardust seem sort of lame... I'm going to go with the racing game. I need to add some racing games and I've read a lot of positive review. It sounds as though a lot of people were surprised when it was NOT released as an actual disk-game (just DLC).

Dying to get inFAMOUS... I want to play it, NOW! :)

I have a feeling they won't have the PS3 Store up and running for at least a week, if not longer... they have a lot of "kinks" to work out before they get her going again.

I wait 24 hrs to get my password reset email from playstation and I click on the link and the site is down for mantinence. I'm pissed.

http://techland.time.com/2011/05/18/playstation-network-security-woes-continue-with-new-exploit/

Reports are starting to bubble up saying that Sony's PlayStation Network may have been compromised yet again and, sure enough, I can't even log into my own account on PlayStation.com: I get the above message.

MCVUK.com reports the following:

"The exploit allows people to change users' password via the PSN password reset page using only a PSN account email and date of birth – both of which were obtained by hackers in the original breach...

...As a result, PSN sign-in is now unavailable on a number of Sony's sites."

The area on Sony's site where you'd normally reset your password has been taken offline as well. The issue doesn't currently affect actual sign-ins on the PlayStation 3 console—just the websites.

The exploit was exposed by Nyleveia.com, which says, "While we will not reveal specific details regarding how the exploit is performed for obvious reasons, we can say that the exploit involves a vulnerability in the password reset form currently implemented, not properly verifying tokens."

The site contacted Sony and—to Sony's credit—the issue appears to have been addressed rather quickly. Until it's fixed, however, Nyleveia.com cautions that the security hole potentially affects "any account the email and date of birth was known for, regardless of if the password was changed or not, or what region the account was tied to."

You'll know your account has been compromised if you got an automated e-mail from Sony telling you that your password's been changed. Assuming you didn't change it yourself, use the contact information contained within the e-mail to get things straightened out. For the time being, it appears that nobody can log in or change passwords via Sony's sites, which is a good thing.
