Re: Rating Coach Scott

I cry myself to sleep at night at that thought. We simply can't wait that long. Kyrie will not wait that long.

Kyrie has no choice. He's under contract for two more years, and he's a restricted free agent after that.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Scott isn't the best coach in the league and does have his issues but now he is not at all the problem with the Cavs. This is what a major building job looks like. Especially one being done as slowly and patiently as the Cavs are doing it.
That being said and as I've written before, this must be the last season of trotting out a pathetic bench that provides little to no depth and is filled with players barely suited or in some cases not suited to being on an NBA roster. We don't need huge signings but there are and have been opportunities to add some proven or more talented players at a reasonable price that would bring an upgrade. I'm all for the patient approach but it doesn't have to include continuing to have D Leaguers and rejects filling up the roster.

They have put themselves in a bit of a tricky spot. Outside of Zeller, you are looking at a bench that has almost nobody you can move forward with. They have laid the groundwork nicely with Kryie and hopefully Dion, but there is a large bit of uncertainty surrounding everything else. This year really needs to be the last one spent in "tank" mode as you don't want to develop a losing culture and need to start building momentum with the fan base, but there is still a lot of work to do. Maybe Boobie will continue to play himself into a valuable asset.

I'd like to be in a spot where a top pick and landing a big piece in FA or via trade would have us pretty well set, but we are fielding a roster that is only about 7 deep in legitimate NBA level talent. And that's not 7 deep in rotation caliber players. That's 7 deep in guys that guys that are good enough to be employed.

That's exactly it. Kyrie is locked in for at least five more years after this season. We could even get another lottery pick next season if we really wanted to, but let's not go that far (yet) lest the win-now population pulls out the pitch forks and runs me out of the forums. :chuckles:

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Crying over this? Really?

Chris Bosh called. He said there's no crying in basketball.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Pyro is obviously trolling........right?

Scott is doing exactly what he should be doing. People who think this team could compete for a playoff spot this year, let alone last year, are wearing homer glasses. We are paper thin. One injury to either AV, Kyrie, and to a lesser extent Dion puts is in the bottom rung of NBA teams again.

Perhaps, but people need to realize that only really, really obvious sarcasm works on the internet. Most of the time I just assume people are stupid because that's generally the safer bet online.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

It would be an injustice after lasting through this rebuild not to give Scott a fair chance to run the ship if the rebuild goes as planned and the team starts playing well.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

I have 2 concerns with his rotation issues.

1. It truly looks like we are already in tank mode. Winning should always be #1 priority and I do not see that in his rotations. You should at least start the season out by trying to bring a winning attitude to the team.

2. He doesn't seem to treat everyone the same. Showing favortism like he seems to be doing, can tear a team apart.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Maybe. I'm not a huge fan of the coaching staff, but this team isn't designed to win. There's a reason our big signings were Miles and Leuer. It's about developing our youth. Byron is a good motivational guy...he's ideal for Kyrie, Dion, Tyler, Tristan and Gee.
We have a boatload of picks. An arsenal of cap space. Sucks to hear it, but this is another rebuild year...it's the truth. Two more high picks this summer, let other teams overpay again for FA's, let the punitive aspect of the luxury tax kick in and it's go time. In two years, we are a top 7 team if the plan comes together. Byron may not be part of it at that point...the front office knows what they are doing.

Ignoring the stupid rants after your post, do you think Kyrie will be convinced by the staff if the rebuild year produces a less than stellar record. Or will he want to leave town after 7-8 years too? I don't mind which direction we go in, but we need the pieces to stay so we can contend for a title again.

I suppose this is the real question then: Will Kyrie have the same attitudes and beliefs about developing a team, and staying loyal to that team that Lebron did?

It may be too early to tell, but I definitely get a different vibe with Kyrie then I did with Lebron and I think most people would agree. Does that mean that he will take the next step in commitment that Lebron never could? I guess we'll see. How well this team progresses with the rebuild will certainly help make up his mind though.

At some point Chris Grant will have to make a bold move like the thunder did trading Harden and Green. It's looking like Tristan could be the guy. Young big men are easier to sell in trades. The idea is to keep moving forward and improving. Byron's bench has got progressively worse and worse. He is now hand cuffed to starting 4 players with less than 5 years NBA experience. I know the trend around the NBA is to fire coaches after bad starts. I hope we don't fall into this trend.

Quit feeding the troll, his mom will be mad when he's ruined his appetite.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Not one legitimate post threat on this team with an even worse bench. How many wins can you honestly expect? We should have pulled out two wins that turned into losses this year, but to allude to everyone's earlier points - our backcourt (while talented) are mere babies.

I think the status of the team when it is time for him to re-sign will determine which direction he goes. What happens this year will likely be irrelevant. By combining picks and trades I think we'll add two very high picks this year. I think we'll add a significant piece in free agency in the off-season and save a large chunk for 2014. Next year I see us making a big jump and making the playoffs. With some luck and no major injuries - a contender in 2014.
