But here's the thing. Shouldn't we know the draft order before we decide if we want to keep our player?

Let's discuss a fair way to determine draft order. I don't want to go by last year's finish in reverse order, the entire reason Soda is out of the league this year is a measure to prevent tanking. I also don't want to be accused of favoritism if I select it.

What I'm seeing elsewhere for keepers is the value of a player is equal to where they were drafted the previous year, if they are kept multiple seasons the value goes up a round. There is a 3 year cap on keeping the same player. UFAs count as the final (14th spot) the first year.

Let's go with those rules, next season we bump the keeper players up to two players.

Here's how I've done it in the past:

Draw the team names from a "hat"
List the order of teams in the manner they were selected
The first team that was selected gets their choice of draft slot, then continue that process down the line.

Still waiting for confirmation from @ChicagoCavFan @kcg @cdt before we discuss the newest member of the league. Depravity from potential new RBF League members is strongly encouraged.

I'm back in for another year of torture. In hindsight my selection of Toby Gerhart in the early rounds was a poor decision. Can't wait to make many more poor decisions this season!

So I've always played it that the round you picked your keeper player is the pick you lose to keep him. Is that standard?

I think most leagues where you keep a player and lose a draft pick, that draft pick is two rounds higher than where he was picked the year before. Keep him again? Lose pick two round higher than that. That happen until that pick is off of the board (ie. can't pick a 1st or 2nd rounder from the year before). If a player was a free agent, then you designate what round that would come from...whatever the league thinks is fair.

I do like that idea... I was trying to figure out a fair way to make sure quality players are still available for the team starting from scratch. I think we will try that system next season when we expand to two keeper players. Good advice, Hurl.

Paging cdt, CCF, and kcg...

If you keep two and they were drafted in the same round the previous year (two FA or traded for a player) then you would lose picks two and three rounds higher the next year.

2 rounds higher is lame. Whats the point of a keeper league if you can't keep your best players?

Our first plan - same round and last pick for UFAs - remains this year. I do think some keeper leagues friends play have an issue with a lack of roster movement. They always want me to join leagues for some guy who quit and I turn them down. Who wants to join a league where 3rd and 4th rounders are the best available for your draft?

Maybe next year, we change it to your keepers replacing a pick one round higher than they were drafted but we keep two players. It's a middle ground.

Looking for some depravity to replace RCFers who aren't returning... entertain us.

I have absolutely zero issues with the one round higher rule. I'm just against the 2 rounds higher and can't keep a 1st or second rounder scenario.

Why not just give them access to the roster of the person who left? It's not perfect, but at least they have a chance to keep guys if they want to.

I also disagree with the idea that you aren't allowed to keep a player if they have a first round ranking. If a player forfeits their first rounder to keep a player, I don't see the problem. However, if a player has two picks with first round grades, obviously they can only keep one of them in future seasons.

I'm not in the league, but if I was I'd be fine with either one round or two round jumps for keepers. Or maybe it increases each year. First year you jump one round for keepers. Second year you jump two. Third year you jump three. It's basically a system that prevents people from keeping players too long. And you can keep anyone provided you're willing to forfeit your first rounder.

It also might be wise to set a round limit on keepers. Like maybe the lowest keeper is still an 8th rounder or something. Just to make it so you have to give up something at least sort of significant to keep a guy you pulled off waivers like CJ Anderson. Because let's be honest...that was fucking luck. And I say that as someone who is keeping Anderson for one dollar in my auction league. It's bullshit, but the rules allow it.

I also don't think giving up a mid round pick is really punishing anyone for making a great waiver pick the previous year. I'd gladly take CJ Anderson in exchange for my 8th rounder.

This is getting so damn confusing and a cluster fuck...

How about this year we start fresh and draft white players only.

Gym rats, great route runners and gritty guys only? Sounds like Gruden's wet dream.

Sorry for delay getting in - was traveling a bit this week and not online much.

Do we lose the draft pick in the round where we drafted a keeper? I chose a player in the 11th last year I might keep - a marginal RB. There are obviously better options, but I want to balance the draft pick value...
