Recruiting update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Linebacker Etienne Sabino of Dr. Michael M. Krop High in Miami has narrowed the list of schools he is considering to Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Southern Cal.

Storm Klein commits for 2009. This kid is good enough to star at OSU as either a LB or RB, which is saying something.

Meanwhile, the class of 2008 is top shelf:
Sports Illustrated has 9 of our 12 commits (if you include Scott) in their Top 100 with five in the Top 44: Brewster, Adams, Shugarts, Torrence and Posey. Ben Buchanan (maybe the nation’s best kicker?), Nic DiLillo and the vastly under-rated Nate Williams are the only ones not on their Top 100 list. Plus, we are on the final turn with four more Top 100 candidates: Terrelle Pryor, Michael Floyd, Josh Jarboe and Shayne Hale.

Yes, it is shaping up to be a pretty good class…

Apparently he is good friends with Pryor and Pryor was convincing Thomas to go to Ohio State.

Its sounds like a package deal with Pryor being the second piece. Damn Tressel is the man.

I have visions of Pryor being used next year in a 2006 Tim Tebow-ish manner, and then taking over the reigns in 2009 when Boekman will have graduated.

Travis Howard, a DB/WR/KR out of Miami commits.

He had offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, FSU, Miami FL, and UNC. If those schools also wanted him, then he's good enough for me.

His teammate Sabino, http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=3053602, is one of the top LBs in the country, and is down to USC and the Buckeyes. Maybe having a friend in C-bus will sway him.

These guys must be pretty good because the scholarships are running out and there is a long ways to go.

Yep. We're up to 13 commits, and we only have 16 available I believe. Add to that the coaches are reserving schollies for Pryor and Jenkins, they will wait for them clear up to signing day, and Scott is supposedly a silent verbal. Maybe the coaches can convince some of these kids to gray shirt, as we have so few schollies this year and a million next.

Looking back on past recruiting classes, I noted that the lowest rated players in the class of 2005 were:

1) Anderson Russell

2) Donald Washington

3) Austin Spitler

4) Brian Robiskie

5) Malcolm Jenkins

6) James Laurinaitis

Laurinaitis was a “solid three-star” and the rest were either “low three-star” guys or “mid-two star” types.

Uh, folks, we are talking about six future NFL players, one of whom has already been voted the best defensive player in the nation (as a sophomore) and all of whom were starting by their second year (other than Spitler, who is behind that aforementioned best player in the nation).

Once again, the focus should be the stars on the field and not some ivory tower rating service…

I was listening to the Bucknuts Radio Hour, and D Long said that Sabino is the best LB recruit we've had here since the Big Kat. Goodness.

If Hawk turned out to be a stud with a 3 star ranking who knows how good this guy will be.

Little Animal was a three star guy, and he only won the "Defensive Heisman" as a sophomore.

Mobley is in the fold.

There is some debate as to whether or not this kid is any good. Any of you have any feedback to offer? Duane Long, who I respect, thinks he's junk. Yet he has four stars from scout (which usually means you're pretty damn good), and offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Arizona State, and oh yeah, OSU. Long says he's not athletic enough to be an impact DE (ala Gholston, Will Smith, Wilson, Heyward, etc), and that he doesn't have a big enough frame to add weight and be effective at DT. Yet, I'm finding it hard to say I don't want him when JT and all those other schools say they do want him.

If anyones can provide their feedback it would be appreciated.
