Rodriguez is the new Lloyd

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
we had an honarable man of integrity

and that got us 4 L's against OSU in a row

People act like Rich is a criminal....jump off the horse you rode in on...This isnt 1980's Bo vs Woody anymore

A quote from Bo himself by the way...I dont remember it exactly but he was asked who was his favortie NON-UM coach in the country right now

He had 2

Krik Ferentz and Rich Rodriquez

said Rich was EXACTLY like him...young and firey and a great leader...Bo said he just passes a whole hell of a lot more than I did!

as a UM fan you need to embrace this...it is exactly what we needed...look what happened to OSU when they embraced a change or USC when they did the same or when Florida did the same

this is newage football and we were just introduced to a party that has been going on for about 5-7 years

This will all be made worth it just to have the S&C guy Barwus take over and get Gittelson's ass out of there....just wait and let things play out

So, you're saying throw integrity out the window, Ws are more important? If that's your feeling, then you are no better than any of these SEC fans who want to oust a coach because he's gone 10-2 or 11-1, graduating 99% of his class, but hasn't won the Natty yet. They only care about winning, damn the cost. Michigan is supposed to be one of those schools above that. Integrity and teaching are supposed to be the first and foremost aspect of a head coach in college football. Comparing what I consider a position of honor and integrity with the likes of Sleazy Pete is sinking to a low, just to embrace a change. Winning football games is important, but teaching and mentoring are way more important. That is why I respect coaches like JoePa, Carr, and Tressel. They teach first, win 2nd. If you succeed at the first, the 2nd will come naturally.

come on man....get off it...thats not what i am saying

But you are throwing him under the bus as a criminal for WHAT?

what has he done that says he is a bad guy. because 2 players go arressted when they got to the NFL???

what has he doen that says he is a bad guy who is not honorable? sure it matters but I need evidence before I convict someone.

does Maurice Clarett being an IDIOT make Jim tressell a dishonorable guy?

NO

get over it

come on man....get off it...thats not what i am saying

You specifically said:
we had an honarable man of integrity

and that got us 4 L's against OSU in a row
...that pretty much states that winning is more important than integrity.

But you are throwing him under the bus as a criminal for WHAT?

I did not say he was a criminal, nor imply it. Nor am I throwing him under a bus. I am simply stating facts that point to a trend. I said that, given the facts of his moves, the way in which he has handled the buyout situation, and his propensity to recruit questionable players, he is not the best fit as a coach for a university with such high standards as Michigan, who wants and needs a coach long term, not someone who views the position as a stepping stone.

what has he done that says he is a bad guy. because 2 players go arressted when they got to the NFL???

As for Jones and Henry, they were in trouble at WVU long before they went to the NFL. That's one of the reasons Jones left early, and why he dropped in the draft.

what has he doen that says he is a bad guy who is not honorable? sure it matters but I need evidence before I convict someone.

I gave you all the evidence you need, ad nauseum. Simply put, he values his legacy as Rich Rodriguez, not his legacy as head coach at Michigan. Michigan needs someone who puts the university first, not himself.

Can you honestly say that none of this bothers you?

_amon, what are you trying to say? It is inconceivable that there is even a remote possibility that any aspect of this hire could be construed as being even slightly negative. Any thing to the contrary is just crazy talk. What in the hell is wrong with you?

this is useless.
For someone who wants to feel better about themselves after some rough years, who wants to believe this is the greatest hire in the history of college football, I imagine it is.

I was two weeks premature when I posted a glib and caustic rebuke of Rodriguez (“Throwing a Rod under a bus” sort of thing) in castigating R-Rod’s seemingly amoral approach to bringing in super athletes of questionable character. Now we are forced to take a closer look and not just a surface exploration of the man that brought you PacMan Jones, Chris Henry, Pernell Williams, Ray Williams, Noel Devine and Pat Lazear.

Because a hiring like this only happens at Ohio State or Michigan a few times per lifetime; that is, in the life of a Wolverine of Buckeye fan – maybe every 10-15 years or so. Will the new Michigan coach become the equivalent of our chess master, Jim Tressel? Or will he become another checkers player – the equivalent of our John Cooper?

Let’s look at the salient issues and conclude where the different sides stand with this new hire:

On the rivalry:

From a Wolverine perspective: Rodriguez said the basic minimum about the OSU/Michigan rivalry. He also mentioned Notre Dame and Michigan State.

From the Buckeye perspective: He thinks that either Notre Dame or Michigan State carries the same “rivalry weight” as Ohio State? Hmmm. Plus, the only rival he had in Morgantown was Pitt, and he was just 4-3 against that noticeably inferior program in their not-quite-famous “Backyard Brawl”

Conclusion: On this issue, more like a John Cooper than a Jim Tressel.

Diplomacy and ethics:

Wolverine perspective: The man is plain-spoken and country. AD Martin is as giddy as a school girl, ready to biblically invoke, “My Rod and my staff shall comfort me”. And recruiting? Rich talked to Terrelle Pryor about the coach leaving West Virginia before he even talked the WVU players! The man is driven…

Buckeye perspective: He talked to Terrelle Pryor before he talked to the West Virginia players! Are you kidding? In his worst moment, Cooper would have never dreamed of doing that – no matter how driven. And how did the WVU recruits see this mission of diplomacy?

“Parkersburg (W. Va.) offensive guard Josh Jenkins pulled no punches when he described his emotions about Rich Rodriguez’s decision to head to Ann Arbor to become the newest head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. “I’m a little mad right now and disappointed,” Jenkins said. “People are just very disappointed in how he handled the whole situation,”

Conclusion: No coach we know recruits quite like Rich Rodriguez.

On the money, nicknames and other worldly matters:

Wolverine perspective: They only paid Hot Rod a 20% premium over his previous job, not needing to dip deep into their multi-billion dollar endowment. And UM left Rod’s peeps to deal with that pesky $4,000,000 buyout. Nicknames? “Rich Rod” became “Richer Rod”. And how well will the mountains translate to this elite and arrogant campus?

Buckeye perspective: I was just getting into the range and realm of Les Miles material (hey – we only recently discovered that it is “Leslie” and not “Lester”). As for nicknames, there’s such a of a treasure trove in front of us that we don’t need to devolve too quickly into “Dick-Rod” or adolescent tripe like that…

Conclusion: A good chance to earn Tressel money and there were really no good Cooper nicknames, anyway.

On Michigan’s sequence of choices:

Michigan perspective: After a halting start to the search, the UM athletic department got their man.

Buckeye perspective: After being turned down by almost any available “name” with a Michigan connection, the Wolves were forced to go “out of house” (no, not “outhouse”) for a guy with a glittering record that had no ties to the Michigan program. Much more like waking up and finding Charlie Weis in charge rather than the carefully contemplated George O’Leary or Urban Meyer.

Conclusion: Andy Geiger got the guy he wanted. AD Martin will only be able to say that in retrospect.

On the importance of being a “Michigan man”:

Wolverine perspective: Uh, well, uh…

Buckeye perspective: The new breed of “Michigan Man” seems to be a Mountaineer (see: basketball coach, John Beilein, recently of Morgantown). R-Rod has no connections whatsoever including understanding the history. As far as the Ann Arborites have fallen, is that a good thing?

Conclusion: Much much more JC than JT

On what to expect on the football field:

Michigan perspective: A new era! The spread comes to Ann Arbor! Now, uh, how long will it take to recruit those kind of players (hey – can Devine get into kinesiology?)

Buckeye perspective: A new era! The spread comes to Ann Arbor! We hope he brings his defensive program with him, too! :chuckles:

Conclusion: It’s hard to transplant concepts into programs (see: “The Bill Callahan Experiment”). But Rich is a breath of fresh air into a stale environment. That is much more like the Tressel hire than the Cooper ascendancy.

It is a new era. But will it be the dawning of the Gary Moeller renaissance or the second coming of Bo? Will we get to see Ryan Mallet running the spread? Or will we await the wave of kinesiology types coming in under the admissions radar to fulfill the R-Rod offense? And will Michigan play defense or simply adopt the Mountaineer strategy that “the last one with the ball wins”?

So many questions. So much time. In the end, I think they got their Mountain Man. Much more like a Cooper than a Tressel…

More on the man known for being Les…How close was Les Miles to becoming a Michigan man – and does he still wear that maize-and-blue heart on his purple sleeve?

According to Arleen Rodriguez, the new Michigan coach’s mother, Leslie called R-Rod to congratulate him on getting the new coaching gig.

Arleen told the Detroit Free Press the phone call was a good-natured exchange. According to her, Miles thanked Rodriguez for losing the game against Pittsburgh. Miles then joked with Rodriguez that the loss cost Miles his dream job.

“He told my son that if West Virginia had beaten Pitt, they would’ve been in the championship game, and that would’ve left an opening for him,” she said. Rodriguez has said it would have been hard to leave if the Mountaineers were playing for the title. As it is, LSU is in that game Jan. 7 against top-ranked Ohio State.

Think about it – Miles is saying that if Rodriguez hadn’t screwed up his last game and blown it to heavy underdog Pitt, Leslie Miles would be the next Michigan coach now. Huh. Is that some kind of “loser’s playoff” to get to see who was destined to become the new Coach Wolverweenie?

Big Rich will have running any type of offense with Ryan Mallet transferring to UCLA...

He's basically putting all the chips into the Pryor basket...

hold the phone on that s article about Malett going to UCLA

UCLA guys have said that they dont think its true at all and the key part in all of this is Scot Loeflor the QB coach that Mallett loves...

I think he ends up in Tennessee...Mallett may follow...he could end up in UCLA but no ne knows for sure yet

AND this crap that Rich is hoping Ryan leaves is BS....The guy has almost no staff, has ben moving, is geting sued by his old school, an assistant that was planing on coming to UM was hired as HC at WVU and he is keeping a few guys that were also planning n coming including the DC so he has been scrambling for a staff and has been trying his best to stay out of Lloyds way....He hasnt even talked to Ryan all that much

That actually happens this weekend....we will all know what wil hapen by Early Next week...Rich is meeting with everybody by then and he will havbe a staff by sunday night

but people are flat out wrong if they think Rich doesnt wnt Mallett to stay....unfortunatly I think he ends up leaving but I am praying he doesnt ...
