Samardo Samuels: Thoughts Observations and Projections

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's going unnoticed that everyone is playing better team ball while attention is focused on Lester. Hell, even Semi was playing well before he ran and hurt himself. They were very discouraged without Kyrie and losing Ramon.

From the PD:

BScott much happier with recent play of Samardo Samuels. Only wishes it would have come about two months earlier.

Samuels acknowledges he's playing better and admits his game had nowhere to go but up

Samardo Samuels has lost 13 lbs since season began. He has been putting in lots of extra work.

Samuels is back down to 252, which is where he was last season when he played well. Asked how he did it, he said he ate a few more salads

I can just picture Samardo talking about eating salads in that stupid ass voice :D

I think Samardo has potential but this is the end of his second year with us so I need to see it from him these next few games. We're super shallow with big men next year so I bet he's around still. Maybe he could be a solid backup PF in the future.

Out of all of our bench buddies Samardo definitely has the most potential. He seems really really strong, he's got a soccer players feet and he actually has post moves. Samardo's biggest problem is his own ego, he thinks he's better than he really is.

He's got some really nice potential to dominate off the bench. Opposing teams benches don't like dealing with a banger like Samuels. Big Baby was able to carve himself out a decent career thus far.

I have really given up hope on Manny Harris, Omri, Harangody, Erden, obviously Antawn and Parker....damn there's a lot of shitty players on this team.

Sloan I'd consider giving him a one year contract since we don't really have a better option. The afformentioned players have no future playing in the National Basketball Association.

Samardo just needs to understand that the world is not out to get him. He's gotta just accept that he's not a starter and will never be one. He's definitely got more potential than any of the other bottom feeders on this team.

Samardo is on a tear. After carrying Jamaica to the Semifinals of the Centrobasket tournament. Sam Sam has spent the entire offseason working hard every day and dropping weight.

A healthy in shape Samardo with a full off season workout will be primed to have a break out season.

In addition this year Samardo will actually get to play his natural position as a power forward.

Here is an article about how he/his team played..

And here is individual stats from Samardo
Samuels ended as Jamaica's top-scorer overall with 102 points from six matches, ahead of Rose, 100, also from six matches.

Twenty-three-year-old Samuels was also the top rebounder for his country with 44, edging Ewing Jr (43) and Jordan (42).

In terms of free throws, Samuels topped all countries with 34, ahead of Panama's Josimar Ayarza Tous (28). Rose was fifth overall with 21.

Seems like he played pretty well down low for them. I really like his potential if he can keep his head straight, I just don't know though. If Byron couldn't break him last season, I doubt Samardo will be any different this one. Hope so though

Maybe watching Alonzo Gee go from a nobody to a likely $20 million dollar contract up close has had a good affect on the Cavs under-achievers...

Scott pushed Samuels last year not becuase he couldnt play or was even lousy on the court but he had higher expectations out of Samuels. Samardo is a guy who needs structure. the lockout really hurt him in that area.

Scotts intention was not tobreak samardo but make him come aback stronger and I believe he will do that.

We can hope, but there have been a lot of guys who've played really well for their national team that didn't make a dent in the NBA.

Samuels has already played well for the Cavs. If his biggest detractor last year was playing primarily the C spot and his wieght. he then loses that wait. plays solidly competitively and looks to play primarily Pf then that looking really good for him.

I would put more weight (weak pun) on him being in shape and working extremely hard this offseason and that he will have a full offseason and training camp to prepare. His international team play is an example of him addressing those concerns regarding his work ethic and commitment to be prepared and in shape.

Samuels is a guy who needs minutes. With TT, Kevin Jones, Samuels, and Harangoudy, it's not like there will be a lot of minutes to go around. Don't think all those guys will stick.

Kevin Jones probably will spend the first few weeks witht he club then go straight to d league. Harangody will mostly be used for specific matchups and injury reserve.

Samuels on the other hand has the most talent and overall ability of those listed outside of TT who will most likely start. Samuels will get his minutes.

The Cavs actually need Samuels to play well. A solid showing and he can either ingrain himself into the teams core or make a fetching trade piece down the road.

Samardo played much better as the season went on last year as he got into better shape. The lockout really hurt him. He didn't work as hard as he needed to on his game or his body and he came in fat and quite frankly sucked for the first couple of months.

He shot .395 from the field and .674 from the free throw line before the all-star break. As the weight started to come off, he shot .484 from the field and .716 from the line after the all-star break.

I think with a full training camp and a full preseason, not to mention what sounds like a summer of international competition -- Samardo should be able to open the season in the kind of shape he needs to be in and will be a better contributor as a backup 4/5 for this team.

We are loading up on big men on the roster, Zeller, TT, Samardo, Jones, AV, and the white whale. Of those , only Zeller is a true C. Might be a vector on trading Andy for a center...

I felt he was very inconsistent. He'd have a good game then disappear for the next 4.

I'm also not convinced he's playing out of position at C. Actually I'm not convinced he has a position.

There really isn't a single category that Samardo can hang his hat on. His height is poor. His foot speed is poor. His rebounding is poor. His jump shot while improved still sucks. His inside scoring is below average for a big. He doesn't block shots. He's very inconsistent. Work ethic and BBIQ are questionable. etc etc
