Season repentance and forgiveness – The Truth and Reconciliation Commission

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
-repent for thinking Mike Miller would look like Memphis Mike Miller

-repent for thinking we'd have a historic offense this year. though i think we will next year, not necessarily pace wise, but efficiency.

-repent for being an almost always optimist. so while I've always felt we'd end up in the finals, some/much of that may have been based more on my optimism vs. where it seemed like we were statistically in the season at the time. but once we had about two weeks with the full new roster intact(late Jan), I was certain we were Finals bound. Earlier in the year I wasn't certain but I did always account for 1st year team with new coach almost ALWAYS has large speed bumps before settling in.

There's still a series left, who knows Blatt may play Mike Miller over James Jones and surprise us.

Just kept him away from the floor so a Varejao incident may be avoided.

I thought Dion was going to LBJ's Wade at the beginning of the season and Kyrie was going to be the third wheel. One of my all-time stupid takes.

Yeah, turns out Dion was more Uncle Rico than Uncle Drew. He's probably sitting at home yelling at the TV that he would be dropping 50 if the coach would only have given him a chance.

The three things I'm guilty of:

Delly. I knew you were a great defender, could hit an open shot, could set guys up, but I complained that you couldn't be a threat with the ball in your hands. You've proven me wrong by mastering the lob and finishing with the floater.

Kyrie. I complained that you couldn't run an offense, you get tunnel vision, don't make guys better. But we fixed that right off the bat by letting LeBron run the show. You've even shown signs that your court awareness is improving.

Blatt. Your stupid "Moz sits while (insert legit 7 footer) is playing in the 4th" crap drove me crazy. I didn't think you'd ever make the adjustments that you'd need to, but now I see you were just seeing how much you could stretch TT and abuse the versatility he offers. Your rotations have been impeccable in the playoffs with only minor or very short exceptions (and for someone that's been forced to play James Jones extended minutes, that's pretty darn impressive).

I never truly doubted any of these guys, just what their roles/decisions at the time were. Blatt has sorted it all out in the end.

In the "I did believe in Dion because..." category: He shot 40%+ on catch and shoot 3s last year. How could he not thrive getting 5+ wide open 3s a game starting next to LeBron, Kyrie, Love. Instead he tried to model himself after Wade, taking stupid fadeaways but with none of the elite finishing/foul drawing that Wade offers. Shooting a ridiculous volume of shots. Wade/LeBron wasn't a good fit, why did anyone ever suggest he model himself after Wade?! It only worked because a healthy Wade is top 5 SG of all time. He should have modeled himself after Battier.

I refuse to repent for my view on the Kevin Love trade. I still think we could have gotten him without giving up Wiggins (or just waited for him or Aldridge to be a F.A. next year). Plus, we've now proven we can get through the weak East without him. Don't get me wrong, I still wanted him on the team, but I stand firm in being against including Wiggins to accomplish it. How good would a Shump/Delly, J.R., Wiggins, Lebron, TT/Mozgov small-ball lineup lineup look defensively right now?

I'll be honest, at the beginning of the season I thought Tristan's role would be diminished by this time.

I advocated for James Jones to never play again after Game 1 in the Semis, and he's hit some big shots.

I was ripping Delly all the way up to Game 4 in the Eastern Conference Semis, and didn't even consider him a back up PG

Constantly questioning Blatt's lineups throughout the post-season, and it's clear I just have no idea what I'm talking about

Picked the Bulls to win in 5

But I been with JR Smith since the beginning, fuck the haters.

Under the reasons for people not liking Blatt you forgot "because he is Jewish."

A few things I'm happy to admit now...

I absolutely thought from day 1 that we would crush teams like the 2008 Celtics, win 65+ games and generally be one of the best regular season teams of all time. Never expected a situations where we'd be 19-20 (much less 20 losses for the whole season).

I thought we'd challenge our own record for home wins. Never thought we'd have seven losses at home before January 1st, including a couple of vicious blowout losses.

I never thought we'd see LeBron James, coming off a seven-year run from 2008-2014 that I'd stack up against anyone in the history of the NBA, look so *normal* the first 30 games. Whatever it was; injury, apathy, chill mode, protesting the Blatt hire -- it was absolutely jarring to see a guy who was unequivocally the best play like "one of the best".

I perhaps mistakenly thought that we'd be running a free flowing Spurs/Warriors type offensive juggernaut which frankly never truly materialized. Instead we got the platinum version of Mike Brown's LeIso offense. Only unlike those old Cavs teams, this one featured an All-NBA caliber second scorer AND top notch three point shooting all over the place.

I love seeing Tristan play in the playoffs. His game is made for the postseason

:chuckle:

In all seriousness, while I appreciated the trades that were made, I felt that too many draft picks were used to make them happen. Hard to be too upset now though.

Under the reasons for people not liking Blatt you forgot "because he is Jewish."

Nah. I made a conscious choice to refuse to believe that that was a reason. I am yet to see evidence to convince me otherwise. Xenophobia maybe, anti-Semitism I would like to think not.

I repent for clicking to many Vardon/Haynes/Fedor/et al articles. It's a bit like watching Jerry Springer, you know it is bad for you. You know that honesty, fairness and credibility have been sacrificed for self-promoting sensationalistic reporting (I do not dare call it Journalism). You know that by clicking you have contributed to its perpetuity. It always feel sticky afterwards. I promise to mend my ways.

I also repent for hoping that LeBron's/ LeBlatt's impact on Dion would be what it has been on JR

I always detested Delly's infatuation with Collingwood, but I shall not repent for that. I love Delly non the less.

I admit to wanting CJ Miles to play more small forward in his time here. Now that we see tough guys playing small forward it's clear he should stick to shooting guard.

I admit to wanting Valanciunas over TT. I admit thinking Alonzo Gee still had upside potential in 2012.

I admit to wishing the Cavs would have just used a few of those 2nd round picks on talent rather than future assets year after year. As it turns out Griffin needed every cup of flour in the pantry to build this team.

I admit thinking David Wesley had one more season in him.

I admit to voting for Ralph Nader.

And I've been right on everything else since the mid-1990s.
