Shaun Livingston Will Soon be a Free Agent

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

That post turnaround jumper is so smooth. It seems inconsistent right now, but if he can make that a high percentage shot, he is going to be a very tough matchup for backup guards. I don't want him to go anywhere for a long time.

At 6' 7, at the PG position that shot will be automatic money on ANY PG but Lebron maybe.......

I havent seen much Livingston, is his post turnaround better than Delonte's? Delonte's was stupid good

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

No where near as good as Delonte's....in fact Livingston isn't making much of anything. He has the ability to get off the wide open shot most of the time. Everything looks good until it clunks off the rim 70% of the time.

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

The Cruiser!!! hahaha. That really gets me just because I don't know why AC calls him that.

Good luck if you are ever trying to piece together a coherent thought from the words that come out of AC's mouth. It is like listening to a stroke patient trying to describe an acid trip.

Re: Cavs sign Shaun Livingston, waived Sloan

I'd say the worst I've seen were Livingston and Allen Ray's injury. Anyone remember that. When his damn eyeball popped out of his head?

Allan Ray's eyeball didn't pop out of his eye socket. He got poked in the eye and his eyelid got pushed behind his eyeball. It made the injury look more gruesome than it actually was. If I remember right, he sustained the eye injury during the Big East tourney and was back playing the next week in the NCAA tournament.

It did look pretty bad when it happened though, I'll give you that!

Another bench brigade member I hope we can keep for the long haul. Livingston has been play great for us.

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

Waiters was interviewed after the game and had this to say:

“We’re growing every game. The veterans are talking to us and telling us to be patient and don’t get rattled in certain situations. Shaun (Livingston) has done a great job talking to me; teaching me things out there and I’ve learned a lot.”

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

Shaun is a great guy for Kyrie and Dion because he was thAT guys coming out if high school. His size and abilities had teams salivating over him and he went in the lottery as a PG out of HS. It's not like a guy like A guy who was always destined to be a career backup talking to them, he knows what's going on their heads, because he lived it, expectation wise, in his first three years in the league with the Clippers.

I see no reason to not have Livingston, Ellington, and perhaps Speights be signed to reasonable contracts and be a part of this bench for the run we're gearing up for.

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

Lately I've been hoping that Livingston is somebody we can keep around as that third guard in the permanent rotation. At his current level he's been great, and there may still be more improvement ahead. Which is why I was happy to read this from Finnan..

......

The 6-7, 175-pounder hopes he's found a home in Cleveland.

"It's been a good fit thus far," Livingston said. "I just have to play it out. That's all you can control is your job on the court. In my nine years, that's one of the most valuable lessons I've learned."

He'd like to return to Cleveland next season.

"They have to make a decision," he said. "I can't control that. I'm happy. I hope they feel the same way."

The Peoria, Ill., native said he thinks he's made the best of this opportunity.

"Every new opportunity for me is great with my past and my history," Livingston said. "I look forward to it. I take it as a challenge. I try to go in and make the most of it."

Scott said Livingston is the healthiest he's been in the last four or five years.
"That's accurate," the guard said.

He said he's been able to hit the weight room and practice consistently.

"That's monumental," Livingston said. "Guys need practice to get better. I hope I can keep it up."

He also hopes Irving returns against the Knicks.

"We'd love to see him out there," Livingston said. "He needs to get healthy. Don't come back 50 percent. Come back 100 percent."

Scott has always been a big Livingston fan.

"I saw him in high school," Scott said. "I saw him in his early years with the Clippers. I just thought, obviously, without the injury that he was going to be a phenomenal point guard in this league because of his length and size, so I was always intrigued by that.

"(I liked) his work ethic and what I'd heard about him from people in Los Angeles who knew him. It just intrigued me. I always thought if I had an opportunity to coach this kid, from what I knew of him, it would be fun. And this year I got that opportunity. I think I've taken full advantage and I know he has."

Livingston would be nice to keep around, but I don't see place for him on this team. In order to make the most out of Dion and our cap space, I see Dion taking all of the backup point guard duties in the future. We need more of an off-the-ball 2 like Ellington to complete our guard rotation, not another point guard even though he is longer. We just need shooting, and it's unfortunate, but Livingston is the odd man out in a 3-guard rotation of Kyrie/Waiters/Ellington. 36 minutes to Kyrie at PG, 36 to Dion (12 at PG, 24 at SG), and 24 minutes to Ellington at SG. If Livingston wants to hang around and accept that, then fine, but I don't see that happening. Livingston may get a an offer for a 1-year contract, but, once we get into the big bucks, we gotta make cuts where needed.

Hell, Gee may be only seeing about 12 minutes per game if we end up drafting a guy like Porter.

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

Livingston provides a much different look, though. Unless Dion improved drastically in terms of not being a ball stopper, I don't think he should get the brunt of backup PG duties. Livingston gets players moving, moves the ball around, has great court vision...can't say those things about Dion, at least not yet.

There's also the fact that Livingston lets us play a three guard rotation without having a significant size disadvantage, which is huge.

And our second unit has been absolutely killing it, largely in part to Livingston. I can't see the same effect from Dion.

Basically, we still need a guy besides Kyrie who can be a PG, move the ball around, and set up teammates (and Kyrie is still working on those aspects of the game himself, admittedly). We need the PG mentality on the bench.

Maybe he isn't in a playoff rotation where we cut the rotation from 9-10 to 8 or so, but I think he definitely would make the rotation during the regular season. You also can't put a price on the leadership and experience he brings to our young team, especially our guards who both struggle with aspects that Livingston is pretty good at.

[h=1] Cavaliers notebook: Livingston happy to be out of Washington, starting for the Cavs at point guard

After the Cavaliers claimed Shaun Livingston off waivers from the Washington Wizards on Christmas Day, Livingston’s first game as a member of the Cavs was against the Wizards.

Now that Livingston is the starting point guard for the foreseeable future given Kyrie Irving’s injury, it only makes sense that Livingston’s first start also came against the Wizards on Tuesday.

“Victim of circumstances. It’s one of those ironic seasons I guess,” Livingston said. “Just another chapter in my crazy book. I’m good with that.”

It’s clear Livingston didn’t enjoy his time in Washington. He had been there once before, but when the Rockets released him at the end of training camp, the Wizards again inquired early in the season. With few other options available, Livingston agreed to return to the Wizards.

“Probably one of the worst spots I’ve been in my career,” Livingston said of his time in Washington. “At the same time, it’s been a godsend here.”

Livingston said he’s a cerebral player who didn’t have the right pieces around him in Washington, and the lack of structure within the Wizards didn’t help him. It’s why he never thought his career was over after the Wizards released him in December.

“I knew it wasn’t necessarily the best fit for me,” he said. “Sometimes it’s just about the fit. … I’m not a guy who goes out and gets 30 a game. I’m trying to make guys better and it just wasn’t bonding.”

Livingston has enjoyed his time in Cleveland and coach Byron Scott conceded he has been a fan of Livingston’s for years, but it’s doubtful at this point Livingston returns next season.

He has rejuvenated his career in Cleveland and will likely receive interest from other teams. He has made it clear he will play for the highest bidder next season, and that probably won’t be the Cavs.

Until then, Livingston will have perhaps the final 19 games this season to prove to teams he is worth more than a veteran’s minimum deal next year.

“It’s a blessing that he’s healthy and playing well,” Scott said. “He stuck with it through all the hard times that he’s had to face with the surgery and the [knee] injury that he had. To be able to be back at this point in his career is unbelievable. It just shows the type of courage and grit and determination that he has as a basketball player.”

Re: Shaun Livingston, best waiver acquisition in years

Highest bidder? With this CBA? With his knees?

I think the Cavs can snag him for a couple million and a team option if they feel he is a good person to have around for the future. Role players are going to be dirt-cheap under the new CBA. There is simply no way he costs more than Ellington for example and I don't think anyone will be forking over more than 3-4 million for him.

How incredibly disappointing. I fully understand why he needs to look that way. This is his last chance at any real money. But, I really really hate this.
