So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fedor found the connection...

Brandon Weems, a Cavs scout and friend of LeBron James, was an assistant coach at Oakland for two seasons -- working closely with Felder -- before joining the reigning NBA champs in 2015.

How does this affect Delly's status in any way? The two guys could hardly be more different.

Oakland is in Michigan (Detroit)

Draymond was high on the player because he is an outside the box player. If he was 6'1 - 6'3 he would probably be the first PG selected.

Lebron also likes him as well. Hopefully he turns out better than Shabazz Napier.
Gonna let that one slide. That was very, very early in LeBron's GM career.

Definitely a fan of this kid's game...I think the Cavs did this with hopes that he'd make the team, and perhaps even crack the rotation.

This might not be good news for keeping Delly, though. Maybe Milwaukee is going to offer him a ton of money after all..
I honestly don't think this impacts Delly whatsoever. The kid is a totally different player. One of his biggest weaknesses in college was staying active on defense. Sure, it is "insurance" if Delly leaves, but more than anything it effects Mo. Between this guy, Quinn Cook, and even McRae, I think it looks like Mo's gonna be offloaded by the time we get to the regular season.

Think about it:

PG: Kyrie, Delly*, Mo, Cook/Felder
SG: JR*, Shump, McRae
SF: LBJ, RJ*, JJ, Dahntay
PF: Love, Frye
C: TT, Moz*, Kaun

To me it looks like the biggest logjam is at the third point guard spot. Ultimately, if Mo looks good in camp, I wouldn't be surprised if the rotation stays the same, Cavs part ways with Cook, and put Felder in the d-league.

The other option is that the Cavs can part ways with Dahntay and move either Cook or Felder up to the main roster.

Finally, if Mo looks bad, my bet is they trade Mo and move up either Cook or Felder; or, they could move Mo, part ways with Dahntay, and bring both Cook and Felder up to the main roster.

So I suppose it could be insurance for Delly, but I don't think Felder's ball handling or defense are at the level where they can replace Delly's production, so my bet is the latter stays on the roster.

Are you sure Cook is still with cavs? I read he was waived.

Cook isn't technically under contract with the Cavs, but the organization did control his D-League rights this past season since he was one of the final cuts in camp. He played the entire year in Canton, winning D-League Rookie of the Year, so I assume the organization is highly familiar with how he's progressed and if he's worth another training camp invite.

I know. The regular season is 82 freaking games long and we should want to give our guys plenty of rest for the 'real' season in the playoffs, there should be PLENTY of opportunities to develop people but we never seem to do it.

I really want to see Jordan McRae get a serious look this year.

Do you not remember Jared Cunningham playing a bunch in the first half of the year? He was coming along quite nicely, but by the time Lue took over it was time to get ready for the playoffs and Kyrie was back too so minutes were less available. Trading him didn't help either. :chuckle:

I agree though with giving guys more development time during the season, and that starts with getting more developmental players here in the place of old vets. I know we'll always have JJ until Bron hangs it up, but I would like to see us use the other spots differently moving forward. Shit, Kyrie is a champion now, so let him teach the young guys how to be one, too.

This kid looks like John Wall on the break, just crazy fast and explosive.

Please don't @ me saying that I'm saying he's going to be John Wall.

We are "Witnessing" the evolution of the NBA.
Match ups matter.
Small Ball.
Rim protection at a minimum.

This Kid is a "Basketball Player".
