So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It’s so funny that this guy looks like an MVP when he plays in the D-League and tentative and scared when he plays in the NBA.

I thought they were assigning him on off days, I wondered why he wasn't in Miami. I'll catch this game online and just watch the Felder parts.

D league stats as good as your 24 hour fitness basketball stats

It's easy to look good when you're going against non existent defenses.

D League just feels like going from the Indians to the Lake County Captains.

AAA is Euro play.
AA is probably top college conferences.
A is D League.

I'd rather see him run point than Liggins...he has struggled some but he at least has some idea of how to run an offense

He has talent. And going from being around NBA guys to the D League probably makes it that much easier for him. The problem is, we are asking him to play mistake free as a rookie if he wants to see the floor on this team, and that just isn't happening. And his game is to play aggressive and attack, so it is conflicting.

Another problem is that he is an offensive specialist at the height of his potential, and we don't exactly need more of that on this current team in his position. I believe he could be a good NBA player, but he needs to play somewhere that will let him get minutes to develop and make mistakes. I don't know if we will ever be that place while LeBron is here.

Too many turnovers for the second straight game. And the three-point shot was off today, unlike last night.

Game was a night/day back-to-back.

As of March 5, Kay has played in 5 consecutive Charge games. There are 10 more games for the Charge in their season. I would imagine Kay would play most of them, as long as Kyrie and Deron Williams are active for all the remaining Cavs games.

Kay has now played in 7 D-League games. Here are his averages through them.

31/4/6 per game
47% FGA
41% THA
86% FTA
5 turnovers per game
36 minutes per game

Those numbers are great, except for the turnovers. Hopefully he can continue to hit the 3pt well, and reduce the turnovers.

Think this right. Problem for the D league is the guys who are just below NBA level or are actually NBA level but were just missed go overseas and make a lot more money instead of going to the D League.

Baseball largely doesn't have that problem as there isn't a ton of competition for the top players outside of the United States.

Covered the Charge game today. Felder was sluggish to start. Admitted that the back-to-back with the early game hurt.

Still ended up with 26 points.

-Most rookies have a huge learning curve entering the NBA
-Most late 2nd round rookies take ever longer to get comfortable and develop(many of them never play an NBA game
-Rookies who play on Championship teams get way less playing time and a much shorter rope on their mistakes.
-Rookies who are uniquely undersized likely have even a longer adjustment to the speed and size of the NBA game and adjusting their style and moves to it.

Given all that, I'm not expecting to know whether Kay can be a contributor until at least midseason of next year. And even that will mostly be measured in progress during blowouts and short stints.

Kay, like everyone else, will be helped by some years in an NBA strength and conditioning program. It will help him big time in terms of getting into the lane, finishing at the rim, absorbing contact, etc. It will help him from getting worn down easily in games(not saying he does, just talking generally).

I'm not expecting him to be ready to be a rotation guy next year. But as long as he shows real improvement after a whole off-season,a lot of d-league time, and another training camp, I wont be with the crowd that will probably be trying to run him out of town.

I'd say if by the beginning of his fourth season, if he isn't ready to be a legitimate rotation contributor, then you can write him off. That's a rule I'd use for any player, really.

You most likely had a good idea after two full years, you most likely know for sure after three. If it doesn't happen at all at by the beginning of four...time to buy a plane ticket to Shanghai. A lot of guys do't even get the three years they should get. I think Kay is more likely to get more time than most, give Gilbert liked him and wrote a nice little check to get him. Maybe not three full years, but I'd be shocked if Kay didn't at least get the entire season next year and then at least a camp invite the following year.

I really hope he succeeds, though. He absolutely has a very exciting and useful skill-set, if he can put it together, I think he'll have a long productive career. And eventually he'd be backing up Kyrie, so it's not exactly like people expect you to be amazing/ Just serviceable.

Plus point guards typically take longer. He just really has the odds stacked against him
