So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For Felder to stick in the league he'd need to become consistent from 3 point territory, plus he would need to learn to finish much better around the rim, he would need to develop a reliable floater, and he would need to be able to sink pull-up shots from 15 feet and in like they were lay-ups.

If he can do all of those things then he might be worth having on a roster.

how much of a price are we going to pay for Gilbert's obsession with him though?

I think Felder will be a strong rotational player in this league. Just not sure if it's going to happen here. I hope we can develop him because I believe the talent is there.

I don't feel like there will be any price keeping him in the roster this year. Any buyout candidate who will want to sign with us will want to carve out a role and minutes, while the Cavs proving that he will have a role. I don't see anyone knocking down the door to be 3rd string PG with sporadic minutes.

If an elite wing becomes available, I would think the way the Cavs would show they have a role for that player is by cutting Liggins or Derrick Williams.

For next season, there is no guarantee that Deron Williams will be with the Cavs. Felder will be an insurance policy again and hope he makes a jump in the summer.

He looks extremely good in Canton. He puts up 30 points every game it seems.
I don't think it's much of a challenge for him. I changed my mind, I think he should practice with the team since playing this style of play with the Cavs is never going to work.

I think he just overthinks way too much with the Cavs. He shows way more diversity and finesse with his finishes around the rim in Canton. He has tons of talent, no doubt about that.

He still shoots only 48% at the rim in Canton and that's going to be his main problem at the pros.

Going down the stretch, I think we are going to see the true plan for what they expected for Felder. Hopefully with Deron on the team and Jr coming back, there will be more blow outs and Felder will get garage time minutes. It will be higher level than D-league and will be NBA level talent that he can test his play again.

I hope the two way contracts will up the level of the d-league next year so they can pull some talent away from Europe. Imagine teams being able to send down their 14-17th players to go work on their games together in the d-league.

There is a big problem with the NBA developmental plan, and that problem is the drop off in talent from the NBA to the D League. Many of the best players in the country who don't make an NBA roster choose the Euroleague with its big paychecks. So you get a guy like Briante Weber or Vander Blue who look like future rotation players in the D League, beating up on essentially college role players, but then struggle to adjust to facing off against NBA starters. Expanding rosters with more NBA contracts in the D League is a step in the right direction.

Doesn't help matters any that the "G-league" salaries are $26K or $19.5K.

These guys still need other jobs in the offseason for God's sake.

Until funding gets funneled there to make these salaries better, most of the 2nd tier players will end up in Europe just like you said.

I agree that it will help being able to offer more NBA contracts and have guys stay down without using a roster spot.

However, this needs to be something that is more than a player or two per team. After all, you'll be able to take a risk on priority undrafted players or domestic kids that you couldn't previously, but if they are still vastly training against mostly shitty quality players, not sure how they can develop.

Kay Felder being sent down multiple times during the season is giving me Joe Harris flashbacks.

Hopefully now that Williams signing is official, he can just stay in Canton.

He's still using up a roster spot, don't think they'll do that. But, wouldn't surprise me.

Kay continues his domination of the d-league 41 points tonight.

13-13 FTA

4 ST
6 TO
4 PF

Like that he's hitting three-point shots now. That's key for his development. Also he was not blocked at all on his shots tonight (0 BA), which is also key for him.

Only bad thing is the 6 TO's.

Canton won by 3 points.
