Sources: Nets, Nuggets reach agreement; now it's up to Carmelo Anthony to say yes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dont think denver wants to take on curry's salary-saw a tweet which said he would be going to another team-what about us for the to be acquired first rounder?

here it is

alanhahn Alan Hahn
Almost a given a third team would be involved to absorb Eddy Curry contract and give Denver valuable cap/luxury tax relie

The problem is how are they are going to entice a team to take him on w/o draft picks? NJ was going to give up 4 1st rounders and one of them to the team that took on Murphy. The Knicks are going to move Randolph to get one first rounder. Are they going to give that one first rounder to the team that takes on Curry instead of Denver? That would mean Denver is getting 0 draft picks in this deal?

And frankly, if I'm the Denver fan base I worry. My front office is saying they would rather not get an extra 1st round draft pick so they can save a couple of million dollars just this year. No big contract later. Just right now and it is apparently to much for them.

He averages less then 3 assists per game. Not a superstar according to their barometers.

lol, it's not just about assists. It's a combination of being able to score, rebound, and defend for your team to get them wins as well as making things easier for your teammates. What can a guy like Melo to help his teammates besides pounding the ball in iso and scoring?

Durant isn't exactly an expert defender himself.

Melo is averaging 7.6 this season and has pretty much consistently been above 6 rpg for his career except in year 2 and 3. Kevin Durant averages 7 this season. LeBron is pretty much one more rpg then Melo in his career.

Melo can rebound and is pretty decent at it. I'm confused about all this hate for him.

For me, part of it is the fact that he doesn't keep himself in the best of shape. You can easily tell he isn't as explosive this year as he was two years ago.

Also, he still doesn't take defense seriously. For one series against the Lakers he played hard defense. Since then, he's been below average.

Durant's one of the most efficiency players in the league (THE best scorer in the league if you take into account his PPG and TS%). Combination of flopping to get to the line and being incredible around the rim.

I think that should give enough consideration for Durant for being a superstar, although if anything it's arguable. . . Melo, on the other hand, can put up big scoring numbers but is more of a blackhole offensively than anything (46% of his shots are assisted - 63% for Durant).

He's a great player, but not what I would consider elite team player, or superstar. His contributions on the court don't help his team win games as much as they should. I could go on about this but this is basically semantics. He's still not a player I'd ever build a team around.

Since when? Since he started thinking about his marketing opportunities as a member of the Knicks or Nets?

But yeah, there have been reports that his wife has been pushing him to play in NYC.

If you want to know what someone cares about, you don't have to look much farther then where they spends their money. Melo's charity work revolves around Baltimore (which his own web site calls his "home town"), Denver (where he plays), and Syracuse (where he played in college). The "WB" tatoo on his shoulder actually stands for West Baltimore. Dude has an Oriole tatoo on his arm, and had a custom '71 Chevelle done up with an Oriole paint job that he's currently auctioning for his charity foundation:

Guess he won't want to be driving that around in NYC ...

@carmeloanthony Born in Brooklyn, Manufactured in Bmore. Point blank period. Recent tweet from him,

This is from another article, "It feels good to know that a city like that wants me," Anthony told the Daily News Monday night. "They know my background. They know I was born there. The fact that it was home for me, a lot of people take that into account when they talk about my future."

I think it displays his allegiance to those two cities. I'm not saying he doesn't rep Bmore because he does but he also recognizes Brooklyn as home too.

Melo is such a liar…he’s saying he knows nothing of meetings when he’s already had them. He already sounds likea moron in interviews, now he’s going to prove to the world that he’s stupid AND a liar.

Sick of his shit.

IMO, if Melo had any thoughts of signing an extension with the Nets, it would have happened by now. He has had the Knicks locked in since last summer, just like LeBron had Miami locked in for over a year. Chris Paul is next bad soap opera on the agenda. Get ready for it.

The owners need to stand up and something about this. Its like the draft doesn't matter in any way, shape or form... players eventually extort their franchise to go exactly where they want for exactly as much money as they want, and party in the fans faces all the way to the bank. If I hear one more talking head owned by ABC tell me this is actually good for basketball because "we are talking about it," I'll learn the rules to hockey. I'm dead serious.

He is a superstar already, IMO.

The board nuked my nice long response (something about a token expiring), but in summary: until Durant steps up in the playoffs - there's no way he can be called a superstar with a straight face, and Melo barely makes his team better when he's on the floor because he's a black hole on offense and provides little on defense.

Durant's defense is below average as well, yet everyone on this board seems to praise him except a few people.

Melo never had Westbrook, who basically sets up all of Durant's easy shots. The black hole comment can be used for LeBron too. Standing at the top of the key and constantly LeIso.

I agree that it's getting ridiculous. Last night we saw a report that Carmelo met with the Knicks owner. Why is this happening? Maybe there's more to the story and the Nuggets allowed it to potentially complete the trade, but it makes me sick that players have (LeBron, Bosh) and are currently (Melo) meeting with owners and GM's of other teams negotiating their future while still on other teams' rosters. I'm sick of these egomaniacs dictating where they are going like they are free agents...I'm sick of gutless pansies choosing to form super teams instead of leading teams...I'm just getting sick of the NBA.

I miss Larry, Michael, and Magic...

Unless the talking heads are clueless ex-players I can't see how any rational person can make a valid argument that the LBJ and Melo situations have been good for the NBA
