The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You do not change Hoyer until they believe Manziel is ready and the team is losing. Let's not just throw him to the wolves.

If they believe Manziel is ready to show what he has and we are out of the playoff hunt for some shitty reason, then by all means, let's see what he has so we have some sort of comparison going into next year's training camp.

From the sounds of it from the coaching staff, it doesn't even seem like Johnny is ready. We don't get to see what goes on in practice either, so Hoyer, even if he's struggling, might seriously be the best option we have right now.

I honestly don't think Johnny will be ready to play at all this year.

Anyone that understands football, and how Johnny plays, knows he'd have to make a lot of adjustments to become a successful QB in this league.

I don't think these kind of adjustments just fix itself overnight either.

He's winning games and his stats aren't awful.

Bar may be low. Then again, I think a large reason he is still the starter is because his teammates love him and would run through a brick wall for him.

Also, best record of any Browns QB not named Otto Graham through his first 11 games as a starter.

I guess we can call the bar low. Hoyer isn't going Peyton Manning out there. I don't think I'd say that asking the QB to orchestrate winning 5 of 8 is a low bar, though.

Yes, though. This team could be better if the QB was a stud.

You've got to give the 8 some context, though.

They've got one win against a team with a winning record.

Falling back on that one stat and not providing any context is going to cloud the reality of this Browns team. I don't really think we know who they are, and based on the skiddish performances of late, I'm not sure we're going to like it when we find out.

To be fair, we've never had a problem with losing to shitty teams before.

Usually we've been the shitty team.

I look at it this way: people are complaining that we didn't win more decisively against the bottom-feeders, but the fact that we're not one of those bottom-feeders is a sign of progress.

This. Look, we are a 7 to 9 win team now. Not a playoff team. But we are finally taking the next step towards being a playoff team. Win the games you are supposed to win, win at home. This is how you build to 11-5. It will take a couple more years.

Agreed. To continue on this, I think excitement that comes from incremental progress gets misconstrued as being "easy to please" as a fan, or "setting the bar low".

Some folks demand the whole enchilada yesterday and anything on the journey there is pretty much deemed as plain failure. Last year, some (I) were on here commending some little improvements or silver linings, but wins weren't coming. This year, the Browns are continuing to improve week-to-week on the little things, but the difference is the team is getting wins. Now that there isn't a loss to point to, some people find themselves complaining that the Browns aren't quite good enough for their appreciation.

So, still a ways to go, but I'm pretty happy with what we've been seeing week-to-week. Getting a win is fun.

Couldn't agree more with the last couple of posts. It's about expectations. This team as @Orange Julius said is a 7-9 win team which means they are mediocre. We are going to have weeks where we look bad. We'll also have weeks where we look real good. At the end of it all though, we'll hover around 500.

If we were a super bowl contender and playing like we did the last few weeks I'd be really concerned. Super bowl contenders should mop up the opponents we just played. We aren't there yet.

Losing Mack and Cameron to injury, and Crowell being benched, has rendered our running game useless these last few weeks. Tate and West can do literally nothing. Defenses are sending everyone and the pressure is getting to Hoyer. I see Thursday night becoming a total shitshow on national TV. Hoyer will either get hurt or pulled in this one...i feel it. Was hoping he could make it a couple more weeks until Cameron and Gordon made it back, but the line and running game are a catastrophe and that's having a negative impact on Hoyer.

Thursday we will get curb stomped. Our line will get destroyed, running game will be a no-show and Hoyer will have no time to throw. The decision will be made to give Johnny a try since he's more elusive.

Well, good news is that the Bengals are one of the worst teams at stopping the run. They're as terrible as we are, literally. So if we can't run against them, we can't run against anyone. Cincy's defense has not been good lately.

I think Cincy is fading badly, they might not be much better than us at the moment. They got a really sporadic QB that you just don't know what you'll get out of lately.

I disagree, I actually think we'll beat them.

I'm not saying I think we're good, I think the entire division is taking advantage of a weak ass schedule, and no team can really separate from the other. Definitely a weak division, the records shouldn't confuse anyone thinking its a good one. Our division gets to play some really bad teams, and each other.

But the way Big Ben is playing lately, I hate to say it, the Steelers might end up on top when it is all said and done.

They've just looked like a completely different team since getting crushed by us, and losing to a terrible Tampa Bay team.
