You bet your nickel on Hoyer underperforming, he has been better than expected. No reason to be a dick about a Browns player doing well
Eh? I didn't bet anything on anyone. The most I said was after the NO game that
if Hoyer's performance didn't improve, and
if the coaches thought Manziel was ready,
then I'd want to see Manziel after the bye. I also said the best case scenario was that Hoyer would improve and continue to start. Then, despite the fact that we lost to the Ravens and that he pretty much sucked in the 4th quarter, I thought Hoyer
did show improvement and that he should continue to start. So where is me betting against him, or opposing a Browns' player doing well?
Also, the tidbit about Foles was from a broadcaster during the third quarter last Sunday. Where did you get your info?
Well, I knew that Foles came out years after Hoyer, so I looked the stuff up about their college careers here:
http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/nick-foles-1.html
http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/brian-hoyer-1.html
And then looked them both up on Wikipedia.
The thing that has always concerned me most about Hoyer is his accuracy. In each of his three years as a starter in college, his completion % was below 60%. In each of Foles' years, he was over 60%. Foles' career college completion percentage was 66.8, and his completion % and rating went up every single year. Hoyer's career college completion percentage was more than ten points lower at only 55.8, and his best year in terms of accuracy and QB rating was his freshman year, with his senior year being his worst. He did have terrible receivers that last year, but still, he's not a guy who showed consistent growth in college. All this is from those sports reference links.
I'm
not saying Hoyer can't be a successful NFL QB. But it seems like some people have decided they
want him to be the guy, and so are stretching arguments and points to make him seem better than he has really been. This "Foles couldn't beat out Hoyer" thing just struck me as an example of trying to stretch an argument beyond credulity, so I responded by being more of a dick than you deserved.
Sorry about that.
