OK, so this is my first trade thread, and I dont want to make a habbit of it, but what if we gave wally to memphis for Darko and Jaric. Jaric is a bad contract with 3 years remaining, and Darko might be over paid, but is a legit pf/c that would be the 4th big we need that wouldnt stunt JJ's growth and is young enough that he could eventually develop into Z's replacement. We shouldnt need to give up anything more since we are taking back Jaric's contract. Would a move like this make sense? Is Wally more valuable to this team in his current role than Darko could be? Not sure. Sasha is starting to show signs of life and the ability to play the sf when we rest Lebron or we slide him over to pf for small ball.....Just a thought.

Re: Darko trade

Dunno about Jaric, he seems like he'd be clutter on the roster, but I'd love to have Darko here in Cleveland. Or at least I would if I knew we were going to lose AV. I like the 4 bigs we've got now, but there's no doubt Darko would be solid coming off the bench.

Re: Darko trade

So I heard you like Serbian players... I think we already have one here. LOL!

But seriously, I would like to have Darko. We do need tough shit in this team. We like have one true center or at least a player who truly has a height for a center.

But don't you think we could do better with Wally's contract? Just askin'.

I am not sure about doing better. Fans always over estimate your teams assets. I think Ben's could bring alot next year for those teams trying to play 2010 free agent lottery. But at this point getting Darko for nothing more than taking on one semi-bad contract isnt bad at all. Maybe we can even sneak away a 2nd round pick from them too.

As for Jaric, he would definately be nothing more than bench depth. Mo and Boobie will miss 10 games for sure like they always do (not a bad thing, even lebron misses 4 or 5 games a year) and he could help when that happens, other than that, he is useless.

Re: Darko trade

Don't mean to be rude here Lee but that is a horrible trade. We can get so much more with Wally's contract and what does Darko really bring us?

He has been 1 of the biggest busts in the leugue. He hasn't showed he can contribute consistently. Maybe we could trade someone like sasha and a pick but not wally. We can get someone better with him

He is a bust as a number 2 overall draft pick...its not our wasted draft pick here though. And I am not sure Wally does bring us that much more without including other assets. You and I are not GM's, so we dont know what people are actually offering. Gasal type trades are rare and it brought Memphis his brother, cap relief and a draft pick, and his brother is turning into a very solid player. The Gasal trade isnt turning out to be as one sided as once though. I like what Marc brings alot. Actually he is my favorite player on Memphis, but I am sure he is untouchable almost.

This is a trade proposal that costs us nothing but wally's expiring and could bring back a draft pick. Dont get caught up over valuing our assets. And Dark brings us front court depth. He might be a bust as everyone thought he was going to be an allstar, but he is a very sold rotation 7 footer and he is young, in the right system he could further develop. It took jermaine O'neal for example years to develop,. Not saying he turns into JO, but he could be a solid 12/9 starting center after Z retires, and a solid joe smith type player off the bench for now. Plus we need the depth as Ben and AV get hurt every year for stretches and Z usually has to sit out a few games also.

I've been a Darko supporter for the past couple years... but now I've changed my tune.

While his stats might show that he is a legit rotational big, his play says otherwise. I just think he's mentally not there, a la Drew Gooden. He puts up decent stats, but watch him play, or ask any Magic or Grizz fan and they'll tell you they'd gladly dump him on us.

Re: Darko trade

Bad trade. Trust me on this one. Darko has no desire to get any better than what he has already shown. And what has he shown?

I live close to Memphis, and people down here don't even know he is on the team!

Re: Darko trade

Fair assesment, I am just looking at adding a big without having to give up AV. I know Channing Frye might be available, but what would portland want in return? More than we might want to give up to get him.

Re: Darko trade

Yea i don't like the trade, but i wouldn't mind Darko at all. It would probably have to be a 3 way to make salaries work.

Re: Darko trade

People do tend to overestimate their assets it is true, however that usually happens when fans are making trades that involve talent for talent. It is tough to overestimate your assets when you see them as nothing more than cap relief for teams who want to cut back.

I think we can get a lot for Wally, expiring contracts carry a lot of value around the league, especially when they are for about $13 million dollars.

I think Darko would be a good fit as a big off the bench, but I agree we can probably get a lot more than that for Wally. Not to mention that we could probably get Darko for Wally without having to take Jaric with him.

Remember, we almost got VC for Wally straight up

Re: Darko trade

I don't really think it would take much to get Darko, i was looking at the bigs numbers and he gets the less minutes out of all of them on that team. Only 17.9 per game, he would be a good pick up in a 3 way if we ended up having to trade Andy. If you pick him up as the 4th big then imo you are really stunting JJ's growth. It seems like MB is willing to play JJ earlier in games now as he gains more trust in him so i wouldn't want to mess with that. Let JJ get his time and later on he would be more of an asset to us on the court than a liability.

If something came along with the Bobcats when AV is able to be traded their which is soon, then i would look to get Memphis involved.

Maybe something like this...

Cavs get:
Darko Milicic
Jason Richardson

Bobcats get:
Wally Szczerbiak
Anderson Varejao

Grizzlies get:
Sasha Pavlovic
Sean May

While I don't disagree, I just wanted to throw out how bad attendance has been due to the recession. I watched the Bobcats game last night, and there looked to be about 12 people there. With teams reeling, I personally think Wally, Snow and Sasha will have more value with a few teams then we think.......However, Memphis looks to have the worst attendance in the league...so a simple swap of Snow for Darko would probably get you your man.

Here is a list of current attendance figures on ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/attendance

The names that are being thrown out there on here, like Darko, Salmons, MMiller, Redd, VC and Jrich, may be more attainable then we think...especially with sweeteners like picks....all of their respective teams are in the bottom third in attendance

Just food for thought

Re: Darko trade

Darko doesn't even want to be in the NBA anymore. All he can think about is going back to Europe and being the man.

Time to rectify our 2003 error...
